Chapter 412: Troubles in the Military Camp
Outside the military camp, soldiers stopped Du Ruoling.
"Princess, the military camp is a restricted area, women are not allowed to enter without permission."
Du Ruoling's eyebrows were raised, and her voice was sharp: "I am the wife that Gu Cheng'an married in a formal ceremony. He hid in the military camp the day after his wedding and disappeared. Why can't I come?"
She forced her way in and found her way to Gu Cheng'an's tent.
Gu Cheng'an was wiping his spear. When he heard footsteps, he didn't even raise his head.
"Who asked you to come?" The voice was as cold as iron.
When Du Ruoling saw his aloof look, all the sweet words she had prepared were stuck in her throat.
She took a deep breath and softened her voice: "Cheng'an, we are married, how can you stay in the barracks all the time? I am alone in the mansion..."
"Military affairs are busy." Gu Cheng'an finally raised his eyes, his eyes filled with indifference. "Just focus on taking care of your baby."
It’s time to take care of the fetus again!
Du Ruoling could no longer suppress the evil fire in her heart and screamed, "Gu Cheng'an! You're just a deputy general, why are you busy with so many military affairs? Are you still thinking about that bitch Chu Ruohan?"
"Shut up!" Gu Cheng'an slammed his spear to the ground with a dull sound, his face so gloomy that water could drip out of it.
"Chu Ruohan is my sister-in-law! Stop talking nonsense and tarnishing her reputation!"
"Sister-in-law?" Du Ruoling laughed bitterly, tears welling up in her eyes. "What a sister-in-law! She was kidnapped, and you searched for her without taking off your clothes. You two stayed alone together in that shabby place in Niutou Village for a whole month! Who knows what kind of scandalous things happened between you!"
Gu Cheng'an's chest heaved violently, and veins on his forehead throbbed.
He raised his hand suddenly.
"Go ahead and hit me!" Du Ruoling didn't dodge or evade, tears streaming down her face. "You're going to hit me for her! How much have I been wronged these past few days?"
"That night, you were drunk, but you kept calling her name! You hugged me, but you were calling Chu Ruohan!"
She roared, pouring out all her suffering and resentment.
Gu Cheng'an's raised arm froze in mid-air, and the blood color faded from his face little by little, leaving only a terrifying paleness.
That night...did he really call out Chu Ruohan's name?
He had no idea at all!
Du Ruoling shouted this recklessly in the military camp, what would Chu Ruohan's reputation be affected...what would big brother think?
The baby in Chu Ruohan's belly is about to be born!
The whispers outside the tent seemed to be amplified countless times at this moment, and they clearly penetrated into the ears.
"Tsk tsk, the brother-in-law covets his sister-in-law. This is a shocking scandal!"
"No wonder Princess Anping is in such a mess. Who else can stand this?"
"You said, the child in the belly of the wife of the national defense general..."
One soldier was silenced by his companions before he could finish his words, but the unfinished words, filled with speculation, spread among the crowd.
"Shut up, everyone!" Gu Cheng'an turned around abruptly and shouted angrily outside the tent, his eyes red, like a trapped beast.
The soldiers were frightened by his terrifying aura and remained silent.
"How disgraceful it is to make so much noise!" A majestic voice sounded.
General Shi walked in from outside with a sullen face, his eyes like lightning sweeping over the soldiers who bowed their heads.
He turned his sharp eyes to Du Ruoling and said in a cold voice, "Princess Anping, this is a military camp, not a place for you to act like a spoiled child! If you have nothing else to do, please return home!"
Du Ruoling was frightened by General Shi's intimidating aura. Then she looked at Gu Cheng'an's eyes that seemed to want to eat her alive, and a wave of regret suddenly surged in her heart.
She came to make peace and wanted to coax him back home, but why couldn't she control her temper and let things reach such an irreparable point?
Now, Gu Chengan will only hate her even more.
"Cheng'an..." she called timidly, with a hint of begging.
"Go back." Gu Cheng'an's voice was cold and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth.
Du Ruoling opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but under Gu Cheng'an's cold gaze, she couldn't utter a word.
She turned around in embarrassment and fled the barracks in disgrace amid the sympathetic or contemptuous gazes of the soldiers.
After Du Ruoling left, General Shi sternly looked at the surrounding soldiers and said, "Disperse! Anyone who leaks any word of what happened today will be punished by military law!"
The soldiers hurriedly responded and retreated, and order was soon restored to the camp.
Although those whispers were suppressed, they were like seeds that had been buried in the soil.
General Shi turned to look at Gu Cheng'an, whose face was as gloomy as ink, and sighed: "Cheng'an, this matter is too ugly."
"I know I was wrong." Gu Cheng'an said in a low voice, "Please punish me, General."
"Punishment?" General Shi snorted coldly, "I can punish you physically, but not mentally. If you truly feel guilty, you should think about how to deal with this mess."
Gu Cheng'an clenched his fists, digging his nails deep into his palms, but he felt no pain.
"General, I have never had any bad intentions towards my sister-in-law."
He has always kept his distance from Chu Ruohan...
"I know." General Shi rubbed his brows with his hand. "You are an upright person and have always respected Gu Junze."
"But this matter has already spread. If it is not handled properly, it will not only endanger your sister-in-law's reputation, but also affect Gu Junze's position in the court."
Gu Cheng'an's face was as hard as steel, and he said in a deep voice, "I understand."
"I'll give you three days off. Go back home and comfort your wife."
General Shi patted his shoulder and said, "Once a woman's jealousy erupts, she can do anything. Especially since she's pregnant, we should be even more careful."
Gu Chengan's grip on the spear tightened and loosened, and he finally whispered, "Yes."
After General Shi left, Gu Cheng'an was the only one left in the tent. He stared at the ceiling, his expression dazed.
He never thought he would find himself in such an embarrassing situation. His drunken gaffe that night had led to such a disaster.
Looking back on those days in Niutou Village, the days of working from sunrise to sunset were truly wonderful...
But now, if this matter gets to her eldest brother's ears, how should she deal with it?
Thinking of this, Gu Cheng'an suddenly punched the table, and the wooden table cracked.
He must resolve this matter as soon as possible and not let the rumors continue to spread.
The next day, at the Princess's Mansion.
Du Ruoling was sitting in front of the dressing table, her eyes red and swollen, obviously she had not slept all night.
Upon hearing that Gu Cheng'an had returned home, she stood up in a hurry, but suppressed her inner excitement and slowly sat down.
The door was gently pushed open, and Gu Cheng'an walked in with his hands behind his back, his face as calm as water.
"You're back." Du Ruoling's voice trembled slightly, with anticipation and anxiety in her eyes.
Gu Cheng'an said nothing, but walked slowly forward and sat down opposite her.
"I was wrong yesterday. I shouldn't have gone to the barracks to make trouble." Du Ruoling took the initiative to admit her mistake, her voice much softer. "I was just worried about you, and I was afraid you were still angry about what happened that day..."
"This matter is over. There's no need to mention it again." Gu Cheng'an interrupted her in a calm voice, "From now on, you and I will each stick to our respective duties and stop making a fuss."
"Okay, as long as you come back, I'll do whatever you want..."
