Chapter 433: You are teasing your prey. It is too risky.

It was late at night when Gu Junze returned to the mansion, but Chu Ruohan was still awake, sitting under the lamp waiting for him. When she saw him push the door open, she immediately stood up and took his outer robe.

"You're busy so late again." Chu Ruohan said softly, pouring him a cup of hot tea. "How was your day?"

Gu Junze took the teacup and drank it all in one gulp. The fatigue between his brows eased a little. "We've arrested a few more. This time it's Minister Zhou of the Ministry of War and his followers."

"It's already the twentieth day." Chu Ruohan frowned, looking at her husband's exhausted face. "Don't you already have a list of all the officials involved with Qingmo Valley? Why don't you take them all down at once?"

Gu Junze took off his boots and stretched his muscles: "It's not that simple."

"Why isn't it easy?" Chu Ruohan handed him a hot towel. "If you arrest them one by one like this, won't that give those who haven't been caught a chance to escape?"

Gu Junze wiped his face, a sly look on his face: "It's to give them a chance to escape."

Chu Ruohan was stunned: "What do you mean?"

"If we catch them all in one fell swoop, it might seem like we've cleared the net, but there's no guarantee that there won't be some that slip through the net." Gu Junze put down the towel and looked at his wife. "Qingmo Valley has been hidden for many years, and its roots are vast. What we have is just the tip of the iceberg."

Chu Ruohan still didn't understand: "So you deliberately gave them a chance to escape?"

"That's right." Gu Junze nodded, "Those who escape tend to reveal more accomplices."

"We have spies stationed at the city gates and major thoroughfares. Any suspicious individuals attempting to escape the capital will be secretly followed."

Chu Ruohan suddenly realized: "You are fishing."

"Exactly." Gu Junze smiled. "In the past few days, many people have been desperately trying to escape the capital, but they all fell into our trap. Their escape routes, meeting places, and hiding places have all become our clues."

Chu Ruohan pondered for a moment, still doubtful, "But if we catch them one at a time, won't we alert the enemy? Wouldn't the really big fish have already escaped?"

Gu Junze shook his head: "The core figures of Qingmo Valley will not leave the capital easily. They have been operating in the court for many years and have a deep foundation. Giving up these easily will not be worth the loss."

"Besides, they are so proud of their noble status that they think I dare not touch them." Gu Junze sneered, "I can take advantage of their mentality."

Chu Ruohan was still worried: "You're teasing your prey by doing this. It's too risky. What if those people get desperate and do something drastic?"

"Don't worry, I know what to do." Gu Junze patted her hand. "This is the strategy that the emperor and I have discussed. The purpose is to uproot Qingmo Valley."

Chu Ruohan sighed, "I'm just worried about you. You've been busy until late every night these days, and you have to attend court during the day. Can you handle it?"

Gu Junze pulled her into his arms and said, "With you by my side, I'm naturally more energetic. Besides, Qing Mogu has been doing so many evil things these years. I'm relieved to be able to eradicate him today."

Chu Ruohan leaned against his chest and whispered, "I'm just worried that you've overworked and hurt yourself."

"No." Gu Junze stroked her hair gently, "At the latest within a few years, we will be able to close the net. By then, none of those parasites in the court will be able to escape."

Chu Ruohan looked up at him: "Are you sure this is the best way?"

"Trust me." Gu Junze's eyes flashed with determination, "I won't give anyone the chance to threaten our family."

Chu Ruohan nodded and said no more. She knew that Gu Junze always acted with discretion, and since he made such a decision, there must be a reason for it.

"Okay, let's not talk about this anymore." Gu Junze kissed her forehead gently, "You should rest. Why are you waiting for me so late?"

"Yueshu wasn't feeling well today, so I stayed with her for a while to talk." Chu Ruohan said, "Yingqing was so nervous that even Doctor Qian was getting impatient with him."

Gu Junze smiled: "Becoming a father for the first time is inevitable. Wasn't I the same way at the beginning?"

"Yeah, you're even more nervous than him." Chu Ruohan couldn't help but smile as she recalled the time when she was pregnant. "You wanted to hold me in your hands back then."

"It's the same now." Gu Junze said softly, holding her hand, "Let's go back to the room and rest. We have a tough battle to fight tomorrow."

Chu Ruohan obediently followed him back to the bedroom. Although the worry in her heart had not completely dissipated, she also understood that Gu Junze had his own plans.

She only hoped that this operation against Qingmo Valley could be completed smoothly without any further setbacks.

Gu Junze tucked the quilt for her and said softly, "Go to sleep. I'm here, nothing will happen."

Chu Ruohan nodded, closed her eyes, and slowly fell asleep in her husband's warm arms.

The next morning, Gu Junze got up early and put on his clothes quietly, for fear of waking up his sleeping wife.

"Leaving so early?" Chu Ruohan opened her eyes, her voice still sleepy.

"I have to go to the palace early today to report to the emperor." Gu Junze leaned over and kissed her forehead. "You should sleep a little longer."

Chu Ruohan shook her head and sat up: "I'll see you off."

"No need, it's cold outside." Gu Junze held her shoulders and said, "You should get more rest."

Chu Ruohan looked at his tired but resolute face, and her heart ached: "You should take care of yourself too."

Gu Junze nodded, turned and left.

Chu Ruohan looked at his back and sighed softly.

She knew that Gu Junze had a heavy burden on his shoulders, and she also understood that everything he did was for the stability of the country and for them to live in peace.

However, facing such a huge enemy, she couldn't help but worry.

The Qingmo Valley has been hiding for many years and its influence is spread throughout the government and the country. Can it be completely wiped out in one fell swoop?

Chu Ruohan couldn't sleep, so she put on her clothes and went to the living room, where she happened to meet Chu Yueshu who had just come out of the room.

"Yueshu, why are you up so early?" Chu Ruohan looked at her sister with concern. "Did you sleep well last night?"

Chu Yueshu nodded, her face slightly pale: "I slept well, but I felt a little nauseous. I wanted to get up and get some fresh air."

"This is a normal reaction when you're pregnant." Chu Ruohan took her sister's hand and said, "Come on, let's go have breakfast."

The two sisters came to the dining room, where the maids had already prepared a light breakfast.

Chu Ruohan personally served a bowl of millet porridge to her sister and picked up a few pieces of steamed radish with chopsticks.

"Eating something light will help relieve nausea." Chu Ruohan said gently.

Chu Yueshu took the bowl and took a sip. "Sister, has there been so much going on in the court lately? My brother-in-law called Yingqing away this morning."

Chu Ruohan put a piece of lotus root slices into her sister's bowl and said, "Eat ours, don't worry about them."
