Chapter 447: I've been traveling too long and can't sleep now

Chapter 447: I've been traveling so long that I can't fall asleep

"We're here." Gu Junze got off the horse, walked towards the carriage, and personally supported Chu Ruohan.

As soon as the waiter saw them, his eyes lit up.

Each of these guests was well-dressed and had a noble demeanor. The one leading them was even more imposing and noble.

Especially that lady, although she was dressed simply, she couldn't hide her innate gentle temperament.

"Are we, the distinguished guests, Mr. Gu?" the waiter hurriedly stepped forward and asked with a smile on his face.

Gu Junze nodded: "Exactly. Is the room ready?"

"It's ready, it's ready!" the waiter said enthusiastically as he led the way. "Your distinguished guests have come from afar. I have prepared the rooms for you as instructed, and there is hot water for washing."

Song Ruyan stepped forward to support Chu Ruohan and whispered, "Madam, take the children upstairs to rest first. I'll accompany you."

Chu Ruohan nodded gratefully at her and gently woke up Xuan Ge'er: "Xuan'er, wake up, we're at the inn."

Xuan Ge'er rubbed his misty eyes and yawned a little: "Are we there yet? I want to eat..."

Everyone followed the waiter upstairs and came to the most spacious rooms in the inn.

Gu Junze personally checked the layout of the room and only let Chu Ruohan and the child in after confirming that it was correct.

"This room is for the wife and children," Gu Junze instructed, and then said to the shadow guards, "You take turns guarding outside the door. Don't let your guard down for even a moment."

The shadow guards bowed in response and dispersed as instructed, some guarding the door while others went to check the surroundings.

"What would you like for dinner?" the waiter asked flatteringly, his eyes constantly scanning everyone's attire.

"Prepare some light and easily digestible dishes," Gu Junze said calmly, "fresh vegetables and fish soup, and two side dishes, that's enough."

"Yes, I'll arrange it right away." The waiter nodded repeatedly and turned to go downstairs.

Song Ruyan helped Chu Ruohan settle the two children. Seeing that Xiao Qingchen had fallen asleep peacefully, she breathed a sigh of relief: "Young Madam, you've been tired all day too. Go wash up and take a rest."

Chu Ruohan nodded, but her gaze fell on the gradually darkening sky outside the window: "Those people along the way today should be coming for us, right?"

"Young Madam has a good eye," Song Ruyan said without hiding anything. "Those people are very skilled and their whereabouts are secretive. If the shadow guards hadn't been alert, I'm afraid there would have been some trouble."

"Luckily, you and Doctor Qian are here with us," Chu Ruohan said softly, "otherwise, it would be really difficult for me to handle these emergencies with two children on my own."

"Hey, of course," Song Ruyan patted his chest and laughed heartily, "I didn't practice all this kung fu in vain!"

Chu Ruohan was amused by her appearance, and the tension in her heart was slightly relieved.

She gently stroked the pink cheek of the sleeping Qingchen, and her eyes fell on Xuan Ge'er who was playing obediently beside her, and a wave of love surged in her heart.

"Xuan'er, come here, let mother wipe your face." Chu Ruohan called.

Xuan Ge'er came over obediently and let his mother wipe his little face with a warm handkerchief.

While wiping, Chu Ruohan took the opportunity to check the amulet on her son's body to confirm that the hidden tiger talisman was still in its original place.

Not long after, Gu Junze pushed the door open and walked in, followed by two waiters carrying several plates of steaming food.

"Put it down," Gu Junze ordered. The waiters quickly set the table and bowed before leaving the room.

"The shadow guards have already checked," Gu Junze closed the door and lowered his voice, "This inn is quite quiet, and there's nothing unusual to see for now. But for safety reasons, we'll take turns keeping watch tonight."

"Then I'll help keep watch too!" Song Ruyan immediately volunteered.

Gu Junze nodded in agreement: "You will be a team with Doctor Qian and be responsible for the safety of the wife and the child."

The dinner was very simple, but because everyone was tired from the journey, they ate it with extra relish.

Xuan Ge'er's appetite was aroused by the bowl of hot fish soup. He held the bowl in his little hands and drank it mouthful by mouthful.

"This fish soup is good," Chu Ruohan took a sip, "it's fresh and delicious, it must be made with river fish."

Gu Junze sat aside, watching the family having dinner with gentle eyes.

Such an ordinary and warm life is particularly precious to him.

After dinner, Chu Ruohan coaxed the two children to bed.

Xiao Qingchen fell asleep again quickly, but Xuan Ge'er seemed a little uncomfortable with this unfamiliar environment and tossed and turned.

"What's wrong with Brother Xuan?" Gu Junze walked over and asked softly.

"Maybe he slept too much during the day, so he feels a little more energetic now." Chu Ruohan touched her son's forehead.

Gu Junze thought for a moment, then took out a small wooden sculpture and handed it to his son: "This is a pony carved by Daddy himself. I'm giving it to Xuan'er to play with."

Xuan Ge'er's eyes lit up, and he carefully took the wood carving, stroking it lovingly: "Thank you, Daddy!"

"Okay, time to go to bed," Gu Junze stroked his son's hair, "We have to travel tomorrow."

Xuan Ge'er nodded, hugged the little wooden horse, and soon fell asleep.

After the two children fell asleep, Gu Junze pulled Chu Ruohan to the window and whispered, "Although the group of men in black were dealt with today, the journey is long, and there is no guarantee that there will not be other ambushes."

Allen Chu held his hand and said, "I'm not afraid of danger, I'm just worried that the children will be frightened."

"Those guys were ruthless and not ordinary killers," Gu Junze said solemnly, "It seems someone in the capital is eager to take my life."

"They won't succeed," Chu Ruohan said firmly, "Since we anticipated this, we naturally have a foolproof plan."

Gu Junze looked at her deeply, his eyes full of admiration: "My Han'er, you have always been so brave and strong."

As the night deepened, the lights in the inn went out one by one. After Chu Ruohan put the children to sleep, she also lay on the bed, but could not fall asleep for a long time.

Occasionally, the cry of an owl or two could be heard outside the window, adding to the tranquility and mystery of the night.

About an hour later, Chu Ruohan heard a slight noise outside the window.

She opened her eyes alertly and saw Gu Junze standing by the window, looking at the night sky in the distance through the window crack.

"What's wrong?" Chu Ruohan asked softly, afraid to wake up the sleeping child.

Gu Junze turned around and motioned her to come over: "Something's going on."

Chu Ruohan quickly stood up and went to the window.

Following Gu Junze's gaze, I saw a strange red light in the distant sky. It was not the morning light, but like a fire.

"It's in the north of the town," Gu Junze said in a low voice, "The shadow guards have gone to investigate."

Just as he finished speaking, there was a sound of brisk footsteps, and a shadow guard appeared silently outside the door.

Gu Junze opened the door and the shadow guard whispered something in his ear. Gu Junze's brows furrowed more and more.
