Chapter 667: Secret Tactics in the Backyard

Chapter 667: Secret Tactics in the Backyard

She picked up a cup of still warm fruit tea on the table, walked to Zhao Qinghan with small steps, and gently pulled her sleeve.

"Aunt," she raised her little face and handed the teacup to me, "Please have a sip of tea. It's sweet. It will make the bitterness in my heart less."

The childish voice was clear and contained a hint of cautious comfort.

Zhao Qinghan was stunned, lowered his head, looked into Gu Qingchen's clear and worried eyes, and the softest part of his heart was gently touched.

She took the teacup, and the warm touch from her fingertips dispelled some of the chill.

"Thank you, Qingchen." She forced a smile, her voice hoarse.

This sudden disturbance cast a shadow over the New Year atmosphere in the Chu Mansion.

There was no more laughter and joy among the crowd, and they all tacitly agreed not to mention the matter again.

The lunch at the Chu Mansion ended abruptly.

Chu Ruohan politely declined her mother's suggestion to let her stay overnight and took Gu Qingchen back to the Duke's Mansion first.

It was getting dark, and the hurried footsteps of Haitang and Wang Zhaodi could be heard outside the door.

"Madam." The two of them entered the house and bowed.

Chu Ruohan put down the teacup and looked at them, "You're back? How's the situation?"

Wang Zhaodi stepped forward, sighed, and her face was full of regret.

"Madam, I tried my best. But I still couldn't save the baby in the Crown Princess's womb."

This result was within Chu Ruohan's expectations. She just said "hmm" softly, indicating that she should continue.

"Alas, it's not that my technique is not good enough, it's really that the Crown Prince's Consort has overdosed!"

When Wang Zhaodi mentioned this, her brows furrowed tightly. "You didn't see it. She was originally a pretty girl, but now she's so fat that she's almost lost her human form. Her belly is covered with purple-red lines. It's scary to look at."

She paused, as if weighing her words, before finally speaking bluntly, "The child was clearly only six months old, but when he was born, his body had turned black from suffocation, yet he was about the same size as a full-term baby. He was simply...suffocated to death inside."

Haitang added, "I heard from the servants of Prince Yong's Mansion that the young prince had an argument with the Crown Princess because she ate too much, which caused the miscarriage and premature birth."

"But the doctor said that even without this argument, the child would definitely not survive to full term."

"What a pity! It was a fully formed male fetus." Wang Zhaodi shook her head. "The old Princess Yong couldn't bear the result and fainted on the spot."

Chu Ruohan listened quietly, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the warm wall of the cup.

Zhao Qingzhi's innocent and mean face appeared in her mind.

Stupid, so stupid.

Where is Prince Yong's Mansion?

All the shady tactics used in the backyard are more hurtful than a knife.

Others were offering delicious food and bird's nest supplements to her, but she actually dared to accept them all.

She didn't even think about the fact that she was pregnant with the eldest grandson of Prince Yong's Mansion, and how many eyes were staring at her in the dark, hoping that something would happen to her and the baby in her belly.

This method of flattery and killing is actually hard to see through.

Chu Ruohan shook her head gently, with only a sigh in her heart.

She looked up at the dusty Wang Zhaodi and said in a softer tone, "Thank you for your hard work, Zhaodi."

She turned to Haitang and said, "Go to the accounting office and give Zhaodi ten taels of silver. Prince Yong's family is in great sorrow right now, so I'm afraid they won't be able to pay you a reward."

"Yes, ma'am." Haitang replied.

Wang Zhaodi quickly waved her hands: "Madam, this is unacceptable. I failed to save the child, so how can I accept the reward?"

"One thing at a time."

"You have done your best, so I cannot treat you unfairly. Go."

Inside the Princess's Mansion

The floor heaters were burning warmly, and the incense was lingering. Lin Xingyao reclined on a soft couch covered with white fox fur, listening to the report from her trusted nanny.

"That bitch is really lucky. She can't even die."

"Why isn't there one corpse and two lives?"

The trusted nanny bowed her body with a flattering smile on her face.

"My Lady, you haven't seen the miserable state of that bitch. She's as fat as a pig with rough skin and acne on her face."

"I heard that her lower head was torn and she bled a lot because of giving birth to that stillborn baby. I'm afraid she won't be able to serve the young prince anymore."

"Really?" Lin Xingyao chuckled happily when she heard that, her eyes full of satisfaction.

"That's great. Brother would probably vomit if he saw her like that."

At this moment, a slight noise was heard from behind the rosewood carved screen, as if the teacup had hit the tray.

"Who's there?" Lin Xingyao's laughter stopped abruptly, and her eyes became sharp in an instant.

The trusted nanny's face changed, and she immediately walked around the screen and pulled the person behind it out.

"Princess, it's the young master."

A little boy in a brocade blue robe was pushed in front of Lin Xingyao. It was Lin Jiayou.

He lowered his head, his small hands tightly clutching the corners of his clothes, and looked a little flustered.

"Mom." He called softly.

The cruelty on Lin Xingyao's face instantly faded away, replaced by a gentle and motherly face.

She waved to Lin Jiayou, pulled him to sit next to her, and coaxed him softly, "Jiayou, did you hear everything?"

"Mother said this for your uncle's own good. That woman has a bad heart and is not worthy of giving birth to your uncle's child."

Lin Jiayou looked at his mother's gentle face and nodded as if he understood.

Lin Xingyao patted his head with satisfaction and continued, "Now that your uncle has lost his legitimate son, it's a time of grief."

"When you go over there later, you must spend more time with him, care about him, and let him know that there is still a nephew like you in this world who truly loves him."

Lin Jiayou nodded obediently again.

But he couldn't understand why his mother couldn't tolerate his aunt?

Why must one take a life?

He remembered clearly that his grandmother and uncle were looking forward to the birth of that child.

Seeing that he was well-behaved, Lin Xingyao was satisfied. She changed the subject and asked, "How are you and that girl from the Gu family doing lately?"

When mentioning Gu Qingchen, a hint of warmth flashed in Lin Jiayou's eyes.

He answered honestly: "She treats me as a good friend. She is willing to tell me everything and often takes me to play."

"Hmm." Lin Xingyao's tone was filled with contempt. "A crazy, wild girl. If it weren't for the family background of the Duke of Zhenguo Mansion, how could she be worthy of my son?"

She pinched her son's cheek and said, "Jiayou, you must remember to make sure she can't leave you. Make her cling to you every day. You are the only one in her heart and eyes. You must be with her. Do you understand?"

Lin Jiayou's heart trembled slightly. He looked at his mother's eyes and finally lowered his eyes.

"My son knows."

"Okay, go down." Lin Xingyao waved her hand and leaned back on the couch.

Lin Jiayou retreated silently. The cold wind blew on his face, but he felt that it was far less cold than the look in his mother's eyes just now.
