Ye Cheng didn't go down immediately, but slowly approached him.
When rescuing someone from drowning, the first priority is not to grab the person, but to prevent them from dragging you down with them.
If they went there now, Wang Defa would grab Ye Cheng, and even if Ye Cheng could stay underwater for a long time, Wang Defa would drag him into the water.
Wang Defa waved his hands haphazardly a couple of times, then opened his mouth and took two sips of water.
At that moment, Ye Cheng swam over and grabbed Wang Defa's hand.
Wang Defa was already half-conscious. He still instinctively wanted to cling to Ye Cheng, but his hands and feet were no longer under his control.
Ye Cheng pulled him up by pushing off with his legs and using his right hand to paddle upwards. The two of them slowly swam upwards.
Fortunately, he wasn't far from the water's surface, and Ye Cheng paddled a few times before emerging.
"The second brother is up! The second brother is up!" Duan Chunsheng exclaimed excitedly from the boat.
Ye Cheng's men used more force to lift the unconscious Wang Defa out of the water.
"A lifebuoy! Give me a lifebuoy! Wang Defa is choking on water!" Ye Cheng shouted.
As soon as he finished speaking, Duan Chunsheng threw a lifebuoy over, and Ye Cheng grabbed it, letting Duan Chunsheng pull the two of them closer to the boat.
Once they reached the deck, Duan Chunsheng and Ye Cheng worked together to get Wang Defa aboard.
"Uncle Duan, can you help him press down and get him to spit out the water?" Ye Cheng struggled to climb up, feeling a bit tired from rescuing the man.
As a fisherman, I have a lot of experience in dealing with drownings.
Duan Chunsheng flattened Wang Defa's hair and then pressed hard on his stomach a few times.
Wang Defa shuddered, vomited a few mouthfuls of seawater, and then coughed violently.
"Damn! You're incredibly lucky." Duan Chunsheng slumped to the ground, relieved that he had coughed up seawater and was sure he would survive.
Ye Cheng's timely rescue was crucial; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so easy.
"Uncle Duan, you keep an eye on him from up here, then have Xiao Hu bring the boat over. I'll go down and check on his trawl net."
"Are you going down there? The water's quite deep here."
"It's alright, Uncle Duan, I know what I'm doing. I'll come up sooner if things get too bad."
After Ye Cheng finished speaking, he slipped back into the water from the deck.
The seawater here is quite clear, much better than near the coast or the seaside, but it's a bit deep.
Ye Cheng quickly found the trawl net rope and swam down the rope to the seabed.
The seabed was pitch black, with only a little sunlight, barely enough to make out where the trawl net was.
Wang Defa's trawl net had bad luck; it snagged a large reef, and not just any reef, but a group of reefs. The trawl net got stuck at several angles, no wonder it couldn't be pulled up there.
Ye Cheng originally wanted to move around a bit, but he felt that he had been down for a while, so he could only go up once first.
On the water's surface, Duan Chunsheng was already preparing to go in. Ye Cheng had been in the water for almost 5 minutes, but there was still no sign of him. Something was about to go wrong.
Xiao Hu told him it was nothing, but Duan Chunsheng didn't believe him at all. He grabbed a lifebuoy and planned to go down and check.
Just as I threw the lifebuoy down, I saw a head pop up on the water a few meters away; it was Ye Cheng.
"Acheng!" Duan Chunsheng exclaimed in surprise.
"Uncle Duan, I'm fine. I found the trawl net. I'll go down again in a bit and see if I can get it out," Ye Cheng shouted.
"Are you still going down there? You've been down for five minutes already. Doesn't this idiot Xiao Hu worry at all?" Duan Chunsheng said, turning around and glaring at Xiao Hu.
Xiao Hu is innocent! You can't look at my brother with normal eyes; he's just an animal.
Wang Defa was able to sit up. He looked at Ye Cheng, who was still on the sea, and wanted to say that it was okay, but he couldn't bear to, so he lowered his head.
After Ye Cheng greeted Duan Chunsheng, he dived down again. This time, knowing the location, he was much faster.
It must be said that human hands are indeed the most perfect tool in the world.
Ye Cheng held onto the trawl net on the seabed to steady himself, then pried it out from underneath. After checking the time, he went back up.
After the first incident, Duan Chunsheng wasn't so worried anymore. When Ye Cheng showed up a second time, he was truly relieved.
"How about it? Can you do it? If not, just cut it off."
"Uncle Duan, I've already produced a little bit. I just need to go down two more times."
In order not to reveal his ability to dive for 40 minutes, Ye Cheng had to make three trips to get the trawl net out of the reef.
"Alright, Xiao Hu, have your second uncle go to the boat and press the button to try pulling in the net."
Ye Cheng climbed back onto his boat, Xiao Hu jumped back as well, and Duan Chunsheng pulled Wang Defa closer to his boat so he could jump back on his own.
Wang Defa immediately ran to the deck and pressed the button to haul in the net.
Immediately, the winch started working, and the trawl net was pulled up little by little.
"It's done, it's done, second brother, it's done!" Wang Defa was overjoyed.
"You've already done it, if it weren't for the second brother, you'd be dead." Duan Chunsheng cursed irritably.
Wang Defa looked at Ye Cheng embarrassedly and bowed.
"Thank you, Cheng."
"You don't need to thank me. Just don't rip me off next time." Ye Cheng sat on the boat, too tired to move.
"Second Uncle, you should go back first. Don't bother with this today," Xiao Hu called out to Wang Defa.
"Okay, okay, I'll head back now. You guys continue, I need to go fix the trawl net."
After thanking him again, Wang Defa sailed his boat back home.
Ye Cheng looked at him, speechless. This kind of person, sigh.
If we weren't from the same village, and if it weren't for Uncle Xiaohu, I really wouldn't want to save him.
"Thanks, bro." Xiao Hu handed over a cigarette.
Ye Cheng took it, lit it, and took a deep breath.
"Alright, it's none of your business."
After resting for a while, Ye Cheng checked the time and it was already 2 p.m.
He picked up the walkie-talkie and contacted Duan Chunsheng, "Uncle Duan, how's it going? Shall we continue?"
“Go on, I’m planning to stay with you all day,” Duan Chunsheng laughed heartily. “But take it easy, you guys have really scared me today.”
"And another thing," Duan Chunsheng said, looking at Xiaohu with displeasure, "that kid Xiaohu doesn't care about you at all. Don't give him meat next time."
Ye Cheng laughed and glanced at the innocent-looking Xiao Hu.
Xiao Hu's face darkened. "Damn it, it's my fault again."
"Uncle Duan, let's just target the middle layer today, instead of the bottom layer, to avoid dragging down the bottom again."
"Okay, whatever you say. I'm not going to use my brain today."
After Wang Defa's actions, Ye Cheng dared not use the bottom trawl anymore. He adjusted the float to make it a middle layer and then lowered the trawl.
Like Ye Cheng, Duan Chunsheng started hauling mid-level cargo with both boats, but Ye Cheng didn't know what they could haul.
