Chapter 503 Selling Crayfish in the City Again

Chen Jinhai chuckled, "Anyway, it's just a place to eat, so you can do whatever you want. If the villagers have any complaints, just tell me, and I'll talk to them."

Damn it, everyone's thinking about getting something for nothing. If they don't know how to make money, why don't they at least try and earn a little extra? Seriously.

Seeing that Chen Jinhai was so cooperative, Ye Cheng offered him a cigarette and lit it for him.

Taking a deep drag on his cigarette, Chen Jinhai began speaking to the village laborers again, "You guys, work hard. Building this restaurant will benefit you all."

The laborers who were just watching the show before immediately nodded and bowed in agreement after Chen Jinhai said that.

To be fair, Chen Jinhai, having served as the village chief for so many years, still commands some authority. His ability to keep the laborers in check was a helpful move for Ye Cheng.

After taking a couple of puffs of his cigarette, Chen Jinhai suddenly said, "Second brother, I'm usually pretty free anyway, can I come over and take a look around?"

Ye Cheng was taken aback for a moment. "Ah, this is a construction site? There's nothing to see here."

“It looks good, how could it not look good? You don’t understand. I’ve been managing this village for decades, and nothing has changed. Now that you’re making it look brand new and shiny, I want to see it more.”

Seeing Chen Jinhai's sincere words, Ye Cheng nodded, "Sure, if you're willing to come, then come. I'll have Aunt Zhang prepare a meal for you. It's not much, but you can eat your fill."

Hearing that there would be food, Chen Jinhai smiled happily.

The minor incident was resolved just like that, and Ye Cheng was very satisfied with the outcome.

Things can be done without fighting.

Now they've even got a village chief to oversee the business; this is a great deal!

Seeing Chen Jinhai's enthusiastic and proactive attitude, Ye Cheng was thinking that once the crayfish were on sale, he would take over the Chen family's crayfish ponds, which would not only expand production capacity but also repay Chen Jinhai's favor.

After exchanging a few words with Sun Baocheng, Ye Cheng took Xiao Hu and left first. He went to get some money to prepare for going into the city tomorrow.

As for the traps for tomorrow, he was too lazy to collect them. He decided to let Xiao Hu and Duan Chunsheng do it. Their luck hadn't been high lately, so having another person go would be pointless.

Duan Yong returned from the city soon, with large dark circles under his eyes.

"Brother Cheng, I've brought all the shrimp back."

Ye Cheng patted him on the shoulder and nodded, saying, "A-Yong, you go and rest first. I'll have Fei Yang accompany me into the city tomorrow."

Upon hearing that they were going into the city, Duan Yong immediately shook his head. "Brother Cheng, let me go with you. I'm familiar with the situation, so don't worry. I'll be fine after a nap."

Seeing how tired he looked, Ye Cheng nodded. "Okay, then we'll leave a little later tomorrow, so you can get some more sleep."

......

The next day, Xiao Hu went out to sea with Duan Chunsheng.

Ye Cheng waited until after 8 o'clock before Duan Yong arrived. He was in much better spirits, and Ye Cheng took him into the city.

This time, he rode directly to the market. Since he didn't want others to make this money, he would sell it himself.

However, stalls in the vegetable market all require contracts, and they are hard to come by. Ye Cheng took Duan Yong to three vegetable markets but couldn't find any empty seafood stalls.

After running around all morning, the two of them were exhausted, so they could only choose a small restaurant near the East Gate Market to have lunch first.

While waiting for the food, Duan Yong became a little worried. "Brother Cheng, what should we do if we can't find a stall? Should we ask those seafood vendors to sell it to us?"

"No, we need to establish our brand, otherwise we won't be able to sell at such high prices."

"What should we do then?"

Duan Yong's lips were starting to blister; he'd been anxious these past few days.

"Old Liu from the butcher shop, right? Two servings of green pepper and shredded pork over rice with an egg. Okay, I'll get it right away."

The boss's voice came from behind the counter.

After hanging up the phone, he called out to the kitchen, "Two servings of shredded pork with green peppers, with eggs, from Old Liu's butcher shop! The one at the street corner."

After hearing him shout, Ye Cheng was suddenly moved and went over to give the boss a cigarette.

Looking at the hard currency, the shopkeeper smiled and said, "Hua Zi, you look like someone who's going to do big business."

"Hehe, what big business are you running? Just trying to make a living," Ye Cheng replied casually, then looked at the boss and asked...

"Boss, from what you just said, there are meat vendors over there at the street corner, aren't they all in the market?"

The shop owner pursed his lips and shook his head, saying, "The market itself isn't that big. There are so many vegetable vendors now, it's simply not enough. That's why so many people rent shops on this street."

"Actually, the expenses are about the same as in the vegetable market. The stall fees are not cheap either. It's just that the customer traffic is a bit smaller."

Hearing his boss say that, Ye Cheng understood.

In later generations, there were many such examples. Some opened a small vegetable market at the entrance of the community, while others, to a higher level, opened chain stores that only sold one type of product.

For example, the crabs from Yangcheng Lake led to the establishment of many shops that specialize in selling crabs in later generations.

These stores don't need to be in prime locations; as long as everyone knows where to pick up their orders, that's fine.

These stores all have one thing in common: they sell expensive and rare items.

There are many lake crabs, but few from Yangcheng Lake. Even if they only produce crabs for a few months a year, they are not afraid of going out of business.

These crayfish are the same as the Yangcheng Lake crabs of later generations. Since only my shop sells them, why should I bother squeezing into the market?

Having figured this out, Ye Cheng continued, "Boss, to be honest, I'm also thinking of renting a shop to sell seafood or something. Are there any vacant shops on this street that you could recommend?"

Upon hearing that he wanted to rent a shop, the shop owner immediately perked up, "Yes, I have several. If you really want to rent one, I'll call the landlord."

These landlords can't stay in their rented shops forever, so they left their numbers with him. He gets a commission if he helps them rent them out.

"I've decided to rent it. Could you help me make some arrangements? I'm in the seafood business, so it would be best if there were any available. I'll eat here, so we can just talk right here."

"Yes, there really was one that ran a seafood business, but it went out of business before..." The owner realized he had let something slip and quickly corrected himself, "They moved away because of some business. I'll call them now, you wait."

It went bankrupt before.

hehe.

It seems this shop is in a rather ordinary location, but Ye Cheng doesn't care; good wine needs no bush.

Back in his seat, Ye Cheng gave Duan Yong an OK sign and said with a smile,

"Okay, we'll rent a shop on this street and sell crayfish there."

"Ah, if it's not in the market, someone will come," Duan Yong said, puzzled.

“Ah Yong, you need to remember one thing: we’re not selling vegetables, we’re selling a brand. A brand doesn’t need to wait for customers; we want customers to come to us.”

"They came to me on their own initiative?" Duan Yong paused, puzzled.
