Chapter 474 Departure from Shimotani Village

"Brother, you even brought a gift? Besides, do the four Zhu brothers need milk?" Xiao Hu asked from behind, holding a bottle of milk.

“They don’t drink it, but their mothers do.”

"Aunt Li?"

"Yes, our target today is Aunt Li, not the Zhu brothers. I noticed this at the hospital last time. The Zhu brothers still listen to their mother. This might be a breakthrough."

Many criminals are vicious to outsiders, but extremely obedient to their mothers, which is a very strange psychological state.

Regardless, Ye Cheng felt this was a breakthrough point, and perhaps there was a chance to guide these four brothers onto the right path.

It's not that I want to be a saint, I just don't want to cause trouble for my future career.

In his opinion, as long as he could persuade the old lady and keep the four brothers in check, there was still a chance.

Ye Cheng had never been to Xialing Village before; he had only heard of it, that it was located in the mountains. Anyway, there was only one road there, so Ye Cheng didn't think much of it.

But after driving for a while, I started to feel something was wrong. Damn it, it's getting more and more desolate.

You should know that although Baiyun Village is not wealthy, it is at least located by the sea, as are other villages like Liu Village.

Originally, Ye Cheng's idea was that the so-called "mountain area" was just a place that was slightly close to the mountains and also had the sea.

Unexpectedly, the road ahead led directly uphill, up the mountain.

"Little Tiger, are you sure you didn't give me the wrong directions?" Ye Cheng asked, a little doubtful as he rode his motorcycle.

"Brother, I've never been there either. I usually go to town or the city when I have time. Who goes to a place like this?"

"No, their name is Xialing Village. We've been driving up the mountain, and something just doesn't feel right."

Just then, a minibus drove up from the opposite direction; it was one of those old-fashioned minibuses.

Ye Cheng quickly waved to signal the other party to stop.

The minibus stopped, and a middle-aged man poked his head out of the driver's seat.

"Master, may I ask if this is the way to Xialing Village?"

The middle-aged man pointed behind him expressionlessly and then said,

"Keep going, we'll be there in another 20 minutes."

After saying that, he started the car and continued driving downhill, and a rooster crowed from the top of the car.

There were several large cages on the minibus, each containing more than a dozen chickens.

To be honest, Ye Cheng had actually seen minibuses like this before.

In my previous life, I lived in the countryside. Back then, many villagers went to the city to sell chickens. Since my family didn't have a car, we could only take public buses or passenger vehicles.

Whether it's chickens or ducks, they're all put on the roof of the truck, and then taken down to sell once they get into the city.

However, it's already past 2000, so this kind of thing is really rare now.

Following the directions given by the driver, Ye Cheng drove for another 20 minutes before finally seeing a row of houses. There was a sign at the village entrance that read "Ling Village".

No wonder Xialing Village is poor; this place is so difficult to access, it's hard to become wealthy.

Baiyun Village already has quite a few small two-story buildings, or at least cement houses, but here the houses are still mainly made of earth and stone, probably because it's convenient to use local materials.

To be honest, it was a bit difficult to carry two people on this motorcycle when we rode up here, mainly because the slope was quite steep and the road wasn't repaired. Xiao Hu's butt was sore from the bumps.

Finally arriving, Little Tiger quickly jumped down and rubbed his bottom.

"Brother, you should buy a car next time. I heard it's not bumpy."

"Oh my, our young master Tiger is getting all fussy now, he can even feel his butt."

Xiao Hu rolled his eyes at Ye Cheng, "Then you'll sit in the back when we go down the mountain?"

"No way, with your skills, you'll end up getting us down the mountain in no time."

As soon as the motorcycle entered the village, some children wearing patched clothes ran out and looked at them from afar with curiosity in their eyes.

"Hey kids, come on, here's some candy." Ye Cheng pulled a handful of candy out of his pocket. Luckily, he had considered the children before he came, otherwise he would have had to give them cigarettes instead.

The children's eyes lit up when they saw the candy, and led by an older child, they slowly approached and took it from Ye Cheng's hand.

Looking at the children, Ye Cheng felt a pang of sympathy.

I used to think Baiyun Village was poor enough, but at least the children were dressed cleanly. Some of these children were wearing tattered shoes and their clothes were ill-fitting, either too big or too small.

You can't truly appreciate the awe-inspiring nature of this scene unless you see it for yourself.

Ye Cheng distributed most of the candy to everyone, and then looked at the older child and asked,

"Little friend, do you know where Grandma Li lives?"

"Which Aunt Li? There are several aunties with the surname Li in the village," the child replied innocently.

"Yes, that's right, she has four sons."

"Oh, it's over there, behind the village, near the mountain." The child pointed behind him.

The village is located on a mountain, and the innermost row of houses is also against the mountain.

Following the directions the child gave him, Ye Cheng got on his motorcycle and rode off.

The road is narrow, barely wide enough for one car to pass at a time. The houses along the road are mostly mud houses, each surrounded by a small courtyard. Along the way, I only saw some elderly people and very few young people.

Walking to the back, near the mountain, there was another mud house, but it was well-maintained; at least the walls hadn't collapsed, and one of the wooden doors had been freshly painted.

This must be the place the child was talking about.

Ye Cheng parked the motorcycle, then walked over and knocked twice.

Is this Aunt Li's house?

"Coming, coming, who is it?" A soft rustling sound came from inside.

Then, with a creak, the door opened, and an old woman came out, looking at Ye Cheng and Xiao Hu with a surprised expression.

Who are you looking for?

Ye Cheng recognized the old lady as Li Da Niang, the mother of the Zhu brothers.

"You must be Aunt Li, right? We met once, at the hospital," Ye Cheng reminded her.

At the hospital?

After thinking for a moment and glancing at Ye Cheng's eyes, Aunt Li immediately understood.

Her face immediately showed distress, and she stood at the door, wringing her hands.

"Oh, it's you, young man. Didn't you promise us you wouldn't have to pay for your medical expenses last time?"

Ye Cheng smiled slightly, then gestured for Xiao Hu to hand over the two boxes of milk.

"Auntie, I'm not here to ask for money, I just wanted to come and see you."

"Huh?" Aunt Li was stunned. She looked at the milk in Xiao Hu's hand in disbelief, her mind a little blank.

Look at her?

She doesn't know them either.

These two men were not his sons' friends either; his four sons were even arrested for fighting with them.

They came to see her, which puzzled Aunt Li a little.

Seeing that Aunt Li didn't speak, Ye Cheng pointed inside.

"Can we come in and sit for a while?"

"Oh, oh, sure, sure, come in and sit down." Aunt Li quickly stepped aside and led the two inside.
