On the sea, sails gradually approached, and the first group of people who went out to sea at dawn had returned. Some looked exhausted, while others looked excited. Boxes of seafood were unloaded and were waiting to be purchased, packed, and transported away.
Standing there, watching everyone busy at work, Ye Cheng felt very satisfied. Perhaps this is what they call the warmth of everyday life; life should be like this.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Duan Chunsheng finally arrived, yawning, with very obvious dark circles under his deep-set eyes.
"Hey, Uncle Duan, what's wrong? Having trouble sleeping?"
Duan Chunsheng barely opened his eyes and glanced at Ye Cheng, listless.
"It's all your fault. You made Ah Yong deliver the shrimp at dawn. He's so noisy, and the sound of his motorcycle woke me up."
"yawn--"
Duan Chunsheng stood there, yawning incessantly; it seemed he really hadn't slept well last night.
"Uncle, does the seafood market open this early? Next time, have Duan Yong move the shrimp to the farm and park the motorcycle there too, so it won't disturb you."
"Let's talk about it later, let's talk about it later. Let's get on the boat quickly, I need to take a nap, I'm so sleepy."
As soon as Duan Chunsheng boarded the ship, he found a corner to sit down and started to sleep.
He and Xiao Hu went to release the boat yesterday. He was asleep, so naturally Xiao Hu had to drive it.
Ye Cheng and Xiao Hu stood in the driver's seat, chatting quietly, while Duan Chunsheng fell asleep in the back. After driving for about an hour, they finally saw the buoy.
Ye Cheng glanced at Duan Chunsheng, who was sleeping soundly, and gently patted Xiao Hu, signaling him to keep his voice down. "Let's put this away first and let him sleep for a while."
The two men tiptoed to the stern, hooked up the drift net's buoy, and attached it to the rope-lifting machine.
After two piercing vibrations, the rope-lifting machine began to slowly pull up the net.
This time, the net made no waves at all. Halfway through, it was full of small yellow croakers and sardines. There weren't any big ones, let alone grouper.
In the end, they even tied up a sea turtle. The two quickly untied the old man and lifted him into the sea.
Thump.
A sea turtle fell into the water.
"What's wrong?!!!
Who jumped into the sea?!
A panicked voice came from behind.
The two turned around and saw Duan Chunsheng wake up looking completely bewildered, glancing around in confusion.
"Hahaha! Uncle, we just threw a sea turtle back into the sea. Nobody jumped in. You'd better wake up."
"A sea turtle?" Duan Chunsheng wiped his face, still shaken. "I just had a dream that I was working at the dock when suddenly someone fell in. It startled me. I thought you guys had jumped into the sea."
"Uncle, can't you dream about beautiful women or something? You dream about working at the docks. You're destined to be a hard worker."
Duan Chunsheng stood up from the ground with a bitter face, twisting his old back. "What else can we do if we're not destined to toil? Fishermen can enjoy a life of leisure?"
"So, what did you manage to catch?" Duan Chunsheng walked over and looked at the catch.
"There's nothing special, just some small fish."
Duan Chunsheng pursed his lips and nodded, "It won't work. It seems that without an old general like me to step in, you young people just can't get big deals."
Upon hearing this, Ye Cheng immediately shoved the hook into his hand. "Come on, Uncle Duan, please begin your performance. Next, you must bring us a grouper."
Xiao Hu burst into laughter, "Uncle, I want the 2-meter-long kind."
"I'll get you some 10-meter-long ones, no more giant groupers, dragons will do."
The three chatted as they drove to the second Streamer Net. Ye Cheng gestured for them to proceed, saying, "Uncle Duan, it's up to you now."
Duan Chunsheng walked over with his head held high, hooked up the float and hung it on the rope-lifting machine, then stood to the side and said, "Just watch, there's definitely something there."
The net was slowly pulled out of the water. The first thing they found was a round, chubby thing, the kind only good for polishing shoes. Duan Chunsheng pulled it off with a look of displeasure, poked its belly, and then threw it back into the sea.
Looking back at their teasing expressions, Duan Chunsheng said irritably, "What are you doing? Pufferfish, haven't you ever caught one before?"
Ye Cheng suppressed a laugh and pointed to the net, "It's alright, Uncle Duan, you can continue."
When the second one came up, Duan Chunsheng's face turned black. Damn it, it was another pufferfish.
Without saying a word, untie them and send them back.
Ye Cheng coughed lightly, "Uncle, you seem to have a special connection with pufferfish today."
"What kind of fate is this? I don't believe it will be a pufferfish."
No sooner had he finished speaking than another pouty, cute-looking creature came up. Ye Cheng couldn't hold back his laughter any longer and burst out laughing.
"Uncle, see? I told you it was fate. You're ready to buy a lottery ticket after seeing three pufferfish in a row."
Duan Chunsheng took a deep breath, walked to the back with a dark face, and handed the hook to Ye Cheng, "Here, you guys do it, I'm having bad luck today."
Ye Cheng took the hook and waited a while before the catch came up. Luckily, it wasn't a pufferfish, but a sea carp.
Carp is a common freshwater fish, with the Yellow River carp being the most famous.
Sea carp is actually a common name; its scientific name is *Cyprinus lanceolatus*, and it mainly lives in brackish waters where fresh and saltwater meet.
There are also some differences in their body shape. The sea bream has a higher back and its body is diamond-shaped, while the carp is slender and long.
This sea carp isn't very big, weighing less than two pounds, and it might sell for a few dozen yuan.
Although it wasn't exactly expensive, it was still better than Duan Chunsheng's shoe-shining service.
Ye Cheng had originally imagined another big splash, but in reality, there was water but no splash; they managed to get a few sardines, and that was it.
In total, the harvest from the two drift nets wouldn't even amount to 500 yuan.
Duan Chunsheng joked that yesterday's giant grouper and swordfish had used up all their luck.
Next was longline fishing, but the catch rate was a bit low. The first group caught 30 fish, mainly cod and mackerel.
The three of them had already given up hope and were preparing to finish collecting the goods quickly and head back.
Who knew that when it came to the third group, the water suddenly churned up, stirring up a large area of seawater.
"Oh, so you have some in stock."
However, the splash wasn't very big this time; it certainly wasn't one of those large boats that are several meters long.
When the fishing line was pulled up, a fish appeared in front of everyone. It was half a meter long, with a grayish-brown body and a silvery-white belly. This was a fish that they had never seen before.
Duan Chunsheng used a net to help scoop them up, and recognized them as soon as they got close.
"Oh, it's a croaker."
Upon hearing the word "croaker," Ye Cheng immediately realized what it meant and exclaimed with delight, "Uncle, it's rice fish, right?"
"Yes, it's the one from before the swim bladder."
This croaker, also known as rice fish or croaker, is a medium-sized fish. The flesh itself has a rather coarse texture and a strong fishy smell, so it's best used for making fish balls or braising. It's also inexpensive, costing less than 10 yuan.
but!!!
but!!!
That person has an impressive belly.
It has an awesome swim bladder inside its belly.
