Widow Zhang yawned and cursed, "Who is it? In the middle of the night, are you trying to get yourself killed? Can't a person get any sleep?"
"Auntie, it's me, Ye Cheng."
Upon hearing that it was Ye Cheng, Widow Zhang paused for a moment, then her tone immediately softened, "Second son, is there something you need so late?"
"Hey, Auntie, come help us tie up these crabs. I'll give you 150. Want to come?"
Ye Cheng offered 150, which was quite a high price. Part of it was because he felt sorry for Zhang the widow who was raising her child alone at night, and part of it was because he felt sorry for her.
"150?" Widow Zhang exclaimed in surprise. "Come on, I'll come. Where is it?"
"The plot of land that the village allocated to us."
"That piece? Wasn't that piece already cleared away by Duan Yong and his men this morning?"
"It's morning, hurry up and come over, we're waiting for you."
"Okay, wait for me, I'll be right there after I put on some clothes."
After hanging up the phone, Ye Cheng turned to Xiao Hu and said, "They're here. Have her help tie up the crabs in a bit, then we'll continue looking for more goods."
Ye Cheng wasn't willing to go back so soon, since he hadn't even used his skills tonight.
Widow Zhang arrived quickly, her small, steady steps making her run quite steadily on the beach. She arrived in the time it takes to smoke a cigarette, panting heavily.
"Second brother, I'm here. What do you need me for?" Widow Zhang was very excited, without the slightest anger at having her sweet dreams disturbed. Of course, she was here to make money, so she was willing to do so.
"Auntie, here are two bags. You can tie them up first and put them away properly."
Widow Zhang took the bag and exclaimed in surprise, "So many again? Did you get this from beachcombing too?"
"Yeah, we just ran into a bunch of them. There aren't enough for everyone. You go ahead and we'll continue with Xiaohu. Is that alright?"
Widow Zhang looked on with envy. "Second son is really capable. Don't worry, leave it to your aunt. I guarantee I'll organize it perfectly and won't crush it."
To be honest, Ye Cheng didn't want to do these trivial things, and neither did Xiao Hu. He preferred the sense of accomplishment from beachcombing.
With his rear secured, Ye Cheng felt relieved.
Right where the crab had just escaped, Ye Cheng discovered that a mudflat had been washed away, and when he shone his flashlight on it, he could even see several protrusions.
Ye Cheng squatted down and dug down with a shovel; it was a whelk, a fresh whelk.
"Little Tiger, there are whelks here. Let's clear this area first."
Ye Cheng opened the system and activated the burst skill; there's no harm in using it.
A flash of golden light made Xiao Hu quickly turn his head. "Brother, why is your shovel glowing?"
"What light are you emitting? I don't see anything. Have you been using your eyes too much and are hallucinating? Hurry up." Ye Cheng gave a vague answer.
Ye Cheng shone his flashlight on the small mudflat and dug up the small bumps with his shovel. He found two, four snails, and threw them into the bucket.
Over there, Widow Zhang was tying up crabs while watching Ye Cheng and his companion. The two seemed to be possessed by gods, picking up one crab after another. She thought to herself, "When did our Baiyun Village get so many seafood? How come we never noticed before?"
In half an hour, Ye Cheng had collected more than half a bucket of whelks.
This area has been almost cleared out. Ye Cheng looked towards the sea and saw a large reef blocking the beach.
The group of swimming crabs escaped from here, and Ye Cheng followed their escape route.
The seawater crashed against the rocks with a splash, and as the water receded, it revealed the fine sand beneath.
The seawater beneath the reef receded briefly, and when Ye Cheng shone his flashlight on it, his pupils contracted sharply—it was a huge snail.
He quickly ran over, reached in, and scooped it up.
A conch shell longer than the palm of your hand, pointed and with a yellowish-brown shell—this is a conch shell, and it's really a valuable thing.
Conch slices: Conch meat is usually eaten sliced. Ye Cheng didn't eat much of it in his previous life when he was in Dachang because it was too expensive.
With this, Ye Cheng ignored the seawater and jumped in. The water submerged his calves, and he bent down and began to feel around under the rocks.
It looks like I'll need to get a diving mask and flashlight in the future; this way of searching is too inefficient.
Fortunately, after touching it for a while, he felt something hard. He felt it up and down with his hand and sure enough, it was another conch shell.
Damn, I'm going to make a fortune today!
After placing the conch shell in place, he reached into the sea with both hands and began to feel for it, leaving only the head above the surface.
Xiao Hu caught a few more swimming crabs, then looked up and exclaimed, "Holy crap! Ye Cheng is floating on the surface of the sea!"
"Brother, brother, what's wrong?" Little Tiger threw away the crab and rushed towards Ye Cheng.
Widow Zhang was also alarmed. She glanced at Ye Cheng's appearance and screamed in fright.
People have died while beachcombing. Some people are too greedy and go into the sea, only to be swept away by the tide and die instantly.
Is Ye Lao Er dead? He hasn't even been paid his wages yet.
Widow Zhang jumped and rushed over as well.
"What are you yelling for? I'm fine." Ye Cheng stood up from the sea, holding a large conch shell high in his hand.
Widow Zhang and Little Tiger ran up to it, exclaiming in surprise, "Is this a conch shell?"
"Hmm, there are conch shells down here. I've caught three already, and there might be more." Ye Cheng also looked excited.
"Second brother, it's too dangerous down there! The water's up to your thighs! Come up quickly!" Widow Zhang exclaimed with surprise, then turned to worry.
“I’m standing, what’s there to be afraid of?” Ye Cheng said, then bent down again to feel around.
Just as Xiao Hu was about to speak, he saw a huge wave rushing towards them and shouted, "Watch out!"
Ye Cheng looked back and saw a huge wave crashing down on him. Then he felt a tremendous force, his head slammed into a rock, and he felt dizzy. His body was lifted up and rolled into the sea with the current.
The salty seawater poured into his mouth, and there was nothing to lean on. Ye Cheng frantically reached out with his hands, but couldn't grab anything at all.
Another wave surged in, lifting Ye Cheng's body out of the water and instantly slamming him back to the bottom.
"elder brother!"
"Second brother!"
When Xiao Hu saw Ye Cheng being swept away by the sea and disappearing in an instant, he jumped down without hesitation and swam towards Ye Cheng.
Ye Cheng felt his consciousness becoming increasingly blurred. The power of the seawater was too great; he felt as if he were being tossed and turned in a washing machine.
Just then, a hand seemed to appear out of thin air and grabbed his clothes, which steadied him.
The hand gripped him tightly, pulling him out of the waves, and Ye Cheng was finally able to breathe.
"Little Tiger." Ye Cheng called out weakly. Little Tiger pulled him along as they struggled to swim towards the shore.
