Chapter 302 Sea Siren

There were about a dozen red shrimp, which Ye Cheng picked up and put in the basket. There were also some prawns, but they weren't very big.

Besides the shrimp, there were also a few mantis shrimp and an octopus about the size of a fist.

Then there were some small, miscellaneous fish, like the pufferfish.

In total, I managed to make two small plastic baskets.

"Brother, look at this, it's not even enough to cover the gas money, all because of your scare tactics."

Ye Cheng scratched his head. "That's a bit of an exaggeration, a little less."

"Okay, okay, you can direct us in a bit. Just tell us where to go and we'll go."

As it turns out, the catch wasn't really related to the route. The second net was cast exactly in the direction Xiaohu had suggested, but the catch was still about the same.

It was a bit better than the first net; besides shrimp and octopus, there were also a few black sea bream to fill the gaps.

The two nets were dragged on until noon. Feeling unlucky today, the two of them settled down to eat.

I didn't bring any fancy dishes this time, just some side dishes and a soft drink. Looking at the gloomy sea, the food didn't taste very good.

"Brother, do you think the weather might change?" Xiao Hu asked worriedly, looking at the sky as he ate.

"I feel the clouds are much thicker, but there's no wind, so I guess it won't rain."

"Brother, let's go back early, don't look for that beautiful school beauty anymore."

"Get lost. I'll say it again, I'm not here to find the school beauty, I'm here to fish."

"It's time to head back to fishing. We've clearly had no luck today." Xiao Hu pointed to the two plastic baskets at his feet, things that could be sold for at most 100 yuan.

"Alright, alright, let's do one more net after dinner and then head back."

After finishing their meal, the two smoked a cigarette and chatted for a while before finally starting to pull in the net.

After setting the net down, Ye Cheng, having no particular direction, simply drove off in one of the directions he found.

Everything seemed normal until half an hour later, Ye Cheng sensed something was wrong.

"Little Tiger, why is it getting darker and darker?"

Xiao Hu watched from behind, his brows furrowed.

"Brother, it's foggy. It seems like we've driven into the fog."

Ye Cheng looked around carefully and saw that the visibility was getting lower and lower, as if it was really shrouded in sea fog.

Sea fog is a normal natural phenomenon at sea. It usually occurs at night (especially between 4 and 8 a.m.) and usually lasts for 8 hours before dissipating. However, sometimes there are also continuous periods of dense fog.

Sea fog is quite dangerous for ships, mainly because it reduces visibility, increasing the risk of collisions and running aground; it also interferes with equipment signals, so it's not a good thing.

Ye Cheng reduced the boat's speed; visibility was too poor, and driving at high speed was definitely not a wise choice.

The sea fog was getting thicker and thicker, and Ye Cheng could only see about ten meters with the naked eye. For safety reasons, he turned on the ship's lights.

But even so, there was still no improvement.

At this point, there was no need to worry about the trawl net. The two of them stood at the bow, looking ahead, afraid that a reef or something else might suddenly appear and cause them to crash into it.

"Damn it, this is too weird." Ye Cheng cursed. He wasn't exactly brave to begin with, and now that it was pitch black, he was even more scared.

Moreover, due to the sea fog, all sounds seemed to disappear, and their ship appeared as if it were in space, utterly alone.

What is known is not scary; what is scary is the unknown.

Ye Cheng didn't know what lay ahead, nor did he dare stop the boat, for stopping would prevent them from passing through the fog.

Ye Cheng took out his phone and looked at it. There was no signal. Damn it, it was so creepy.

To bolster their courage, the two lit cigarettes and took a deep drag, which calmed them down considerably.

"Brother, how much longer do you think it will take before we get out?" Xiao Hu looked around nervously, his anxiety growing.

Ye Cheng wasn't much better off; he shook his head.

"I don't know, I wish I hadn't come out today."

"It's all because you ran around looking for pretty girls," Xiao Hu muttered. "You'll die from a woman sooner or later."

Just as Ye Cheng was about to argue, he heard a strange singing voice suddenly coming from the sea fog. It was faint and unclear, and he had no idea where it was coming from.

Startled, Xiao Hu grabbed Ye Cheng's arm and looked around frantically. "Brother, what's that? Did we run into something evil?"

The "dirty things" that Xiaohu mentioned are ghosts; wherever there are people, there will be these mysterious legends.

Domestically, there are water ghosts; internationally, there are mermaids, succubi, and the like.

Ye Cheng was also starting to feel the strain, and his face turned pale. The voice sounded a bit like a female demon.

The siren is a character from Greek mythology. She is a monster with the head of a human and the body of a bird, who flies over the sea and has a beautiful voice. She often uses her songs to lure passing sailors, causing their ships to run aground and sink, and the crew members become the siren's food.

He remembered seeing something like this in the Caribbean later in his life, but he couldn't remember if it was a siren or a mermaid; in any case, it wasn't anything good.

The sound now sounds very eerie, like someone in great pain, or like someone straining to hit a high note; it's chilling to listen to.

"Get some diesel fuel and make a torch. If there's really something dirty, it'll definitely be afraid of fire."

At this point, talking about atheism is nonsense; once the fear in people's hearts reaches this level, no theory will work.

However, since ancient times, fire has been the best thing for mankind to fight against fear. Fire, which represents masculinity, can overcome all evil.

The two frantically shoved some diesel fuel out of the mailbox, then found a rag, wrapped it around a stick, poured the diesel fuel on it, lit it with a lighter, and instantly it became a torch.

The intense firelight shone brightly in the thick fog, illuminating the not-so-vast airspace around them, which made the two feel much safer.

"Brother, do you think we might not be able to get out?" Xiao Hu's voice was trembling.

"I don't know how anyway. If I can't get out, I'll dive into the water. I refuse to believe I can't get out."

Upon hearing that Ye Cheng was going to dive into the water, Xiao Hu panicked. "No, brother! If you go down there, I'll be terrified!"

Just then.

"Ah----ah----"

Suddenly, a long, thin cry came from the thick fog, sending chills down their spines. Damn, that was terrifying.

"Brother, I feel like that voice sounds like a female ghost."

"When the female ghost comes out, she'll definitely like a strong young man like you. Go back with her and be a playboy, and she'll let me go, okay?" Ye Cheng could only joke around now, otherwise he would be too nervous.

"Sea King, I don't want to go. I want to go to land. Bro, you're handsome and eloquent, so you go. I'll burn paper money for you during holidays and also burn a computer for you."
