Chapter 439 Scavenging for Seafood on the Reef Island (Part 1)

Take a break and enjoy the beautiful scenery! After about 50 minutes of sailing, the Chen family's Ping An finally slowly approached the waters where the reef island is located.

The sea seems to have receded exceptionally early today.

Looking into the distance, the island that should have been hidden by the azure sea was now nearly half-revealed.

The four people on the fishing boat were in a hurry to catch the sea, and they quickly carried out the prepared fishing nets and various cages from the hold.

The various sea fish that were picked up yesterday and had already been killed had been cut into small pieces by Chen Zhiyao and mixed with bait additives.

Using these not-so-fresh sea fish as bait is a way of making the best use of resources.

With these delicious baits, she was confident that today would be another delightful and bountiful harvest.

Soon, Chen Zhiyao and the others quickly placed the different tools in the appropriate positions based on their characteristics.

The area around the reef island is full of reefs of all sizes, making it difficult for fishing boats to dock near the shore.

Chen Zhiyao and her family of four had no choice but to row a small, exquisite kayak toward the mysterious island that was gradually emerging from the water.

When the group successfully reached the island, the tide had receded by about two-thirds.

Looking around, the entire island is surrounded by reefs of all sizes and shapes.

In those pools of water surrounded by reefs, you can clearly see many delicious seafood trapped inside.

They either frantically scurried around, trying to find a way to escape; or helplessly huddled together, quietly waiting for their fate.

On the rocks that emerge from the water, there are many wild oysters.

It was so crowded that there was almost no place to put your feet.

If Tang Youyou and Yang Yi saw this, they'd probably be terrified and wouldn't dare get off the boat. This rocky island is usually hidden beneath the sea, only shyly revealing its true form at low tide.

This is why the seafood hidden here is more diverse and abundant compared to ordinary rocky beaches.

Today is undoubtedly another day that Chen Zhiyao is blessed by Lady Luck.

As soon as she stepped off the kayak, she was pleasantly surprised to find a huge abalone on a nearby rock.

This creature was covered in a layer of grayish-white moss, and at first glance, it looked exactly like the surrounding rocks.

However, she was still too inexperienced to fool the experienced Chen Zhiyao.

She walked over quickly and happily pried the large abalone off the stone wall.

"Not bad, not bad, this abalone weighs at least three ounces!"

At that moment, Chen Weiqiang, carrying a water pump, passed by her, proudly boasting:

"Tangtang, you're really lucky. You found a big abalone as soon as you arrived. You're just like your dad back in the day."

Grandpa Chen, who was also carrying a water pump behind him, rolled his eyes upon hearing this and gave him a disdainful look.

"You have the nerve to say that? Your beachcombing skills are nowhere near Tangtang's."

"Hey, hey, hey, as the saying goes, if the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will be crooked too. If I'm not good at beachcombing, it's because you didn't teach me well, Dad."

"I think you're asking for a beating." With that, the old man kicked him.

"Hehe, you can't hit me!"

Chen Weiqiang was being sarcastic and undermining the situation, but he was running quickly toward the puddle in front of him.

Unable to catch up, the old man could only force himself to save face, saying, "Hmph, if you're even a step behind, I'll break your legs."

Seeing that Chen Weiqiang was already quite old but still acted like a child, Yan Shuting reminded him in an annoyed tone:

"Slow down, slow down, watch your feet, or you'll fall flat on your face."

"It's alright, it's alright, don't worry."

Although Chen Weiqiang ran fast, his feet were steady, and in no time he arrived at the largest water pit on the island.

"This puddle is quite large, with winding rocks inside; there must be quite a few fish there."

As he spoke, he put down the water pump on his shoulder and then put the rolled-up water pipe into the water.

Immediately afterwards, a loud sound rang out on the island.

Meanwhile, Grandpa Chen behind him picked a small puddle of about four or five square meters and started pumping water.

When they first started pumping water, no one needed to watch over them. Chen Weiqiang and his son happily carried buckets and started turning over stones around.

When the water pump started to rumble, Chen Zhiyao arrived at a water pit made up of several rocks.

She was bent over, looking excitedly at a stone cave to the side.

This stone cave is the nest of the coconut snails that were discovered earlier.

Chen Zhiyao had already taken all the large coconut snails six months ago, but she left a few smaller ones.

Half a year has passed, and these little guys have obviously grown a lot. The two bigger ones look like they weigh more than a pound, and even the two smaller ones weigh about half a pound.

But what surprised her the most was that there were now four more coconut snail seedlings, each the size of a chess piece.

Chen Zhiyao held the two largest coconuts in her hands, one in each hand, and weighed them with a smile.

"These coconut snails are growing really fast; the two of them together weigh almost three pounds."

Although the two half-pound ones were edible, they were still a bit small, so Chen Zhiyao didn't take them and only took the two largest ones.

After carefully putting the two coconut snails away, she looked down at the puddle at her feet.

At the bottom of the pit, two small pink fish were seen frantically wagging their tails, searching for a place to hide.

Chen Zhiyao immediately recognized the two fish as longevity fish by their lightning rods and long, pouty mouths.

She immediately took out a net and caught them all in a few swift movements.

After catching the fish, she casually reached into the cracks in the rocks nearby and pulled out several sea snails of varying sizes.

As Chen Zhiyao walked to the other side of the puddle, her eyes suddenly lit up, and she quickly bent down.

Immediately afterwards, she scooped up a huge handful of yellow snails from the crevice in front of her.

In the crevice in front of her, on both sides, were countless giant yellow-mouthed snails crawling densely.

These snails have been growing for who knows how long; each one is as big as a toe, and many of them even have small barnacles growing on their bodies.

There were no small ones among these large yellow snails, so Chen Zhiyao didn't need to pick them out; she simply put them all into the net bag she carried with her.

This type of snail has an exceptionally strong reproductive capacity. In another month or two, the yellow eggs on the rock face will regrow into small snails.

After walking a few steps, Chen Zhiyao came to a small puddle covered with seaweed.

This patch of seaweed seemed ordinary, but when she parted a particularly lush patch of seaweed in front of her:

Hidden underneath was a large blue crab weighing six or seven ounces. As soon as the seaweed was parted, the crab sensed something was wrong and immediately scurried sideways to the right.

Before it had gone far, it was firmly caught by a pair of all-purpose clips that fell from the sky.
