Chapter 411 Fishing for Big Fish in the High Seas 6

Ever since Chen Zhiyao caught her first sea wolf, it's been like she's stirred up a sea wolf's den.

For the next half hour, almost all the fish caught were small barracuda weighing around three or four pounds.

These waves were small and worthless, and after a while, she became somewhat unhappy about them.

Looking at the magnificent sunset, Chen Zhiyao, who had been busy all day, simply put away her fishing rod and wandered around the deck.

She first went to Chen Weiqiang's fishing spot next to her and peered at the bucket at his feet.

Inside, there were two black sea bream weighing over a pound each and a barracuda weighing about two pounds each; the rest were mostly sea bass.

These sea bass varied in size, and together they weighed about 20 kilograms.

"Dad, this technique is no good. These are all worthless little things." Chen Zhiyao smiled, her face full of schadenfreude.

Chen Weiqiang immediately put on a long face and said irritably:

"You little rascal, you've come to watch your old man's antics, haven't you?"

He gets angry when he talks about this. He finally caught a big one in the morning and worked hard for half a day, only to find out that it was a sea turtle weighing forty or fifty pounds.

He wasted more than an hour of his time, and he gets angry just thinking about it.

Seeing that her father was unhappy, Chen Zhiyao quickly slipped away and went to her mother's side with a cheerful smile.

She strolled around the boat and found that, apart from her father, the others had all had pretty good hauls.

Grandpa and Mom, in particular, earned at least 20,000 yuan today.

During the meal, everyone started showing off, bragging about what they had gained that day.

Grandpa Chen ate the steamed sea bass that he had specially ordered from the kitchen, and looked up with a satisfied smile, beaming with energy:

"The fishing is good today. We caught an 89-pound saddle grouper, plus other barracuda and sea bass. Today's income is nearly 20,000 yuan."

The old man was so happy that he earned back the boat fare in just one day that two more wrinkles appeared on his face.

Grandma Chen, standing to the side, also chimed in with a smile:

"The fishing was really good today. Although I didn't catch any big ones, I did catch two longtail snapper and some white pomfret. I've at least gotten back most of the boat fare."

Immediately afterwards, Yan Shuting's hearty laughter rang out:

"Haha, I caught a 101-pound sailfish this afternoon. That guy looked like a giant cobra, it was pretty scary."

As soon as she finished speaking, Chen Zhiyao said smugly:

“I also caught a sailfish, weighing 116 jin (58 catties), which is bigger than the one you caught, Mom.”

Everyone was getting happier and happier as they talked, except for Chen Weiqiang, who pitifully remained silent in the corner.

After dinner, everyone returned to their fishing spots, ready to continue fishing.

After fishing all day, Chen Zhiyao felt so tired she could barely lift her arms, so she decided to stop fishing for squid for now.

Fishing for squid is a skill in itself.

One of the most common methods is to use a squid hook to catch squid.

Squid have a special attraction to light. If you put a squid hook with a glow-in-the-dark function into the water, you can quickly attract those "greedy devils".

Another method is to put the searchlight directly into the water. This way, the squid in the surrounding water will be attracted by the bright light and gather around.

At this point, all you need to do is seize the opportunity and quickly cast a net to catch them all.

This is a new method Chen Zhiyao has learned, but unfortunately it's currently the fishing ban season, so she can't use nets.

Having no other choice, she had to patiently use the squid rod to slowly lure the little creatures onto the hook.

The light on the squid rod not only attracts squid, but also draws in small fish and shrimp from the water.

Even without turning on her X-ray glasses, she could see countless tiny black shadows in the water.

Chen Zhiyao slowly lowered the squid hook, stopping when it was about two meters below the surface of the sea.

In less than a minute, she felt a noticeable difference in the weight of the fishing rod in her hand.

Chen Zhiyao's heart skipped a beat, and she pondered to herself:

"Squid have already taken the bait so quickly!"

Filled with anticipation and joy, she dared not delay for even a moment and quickly began to reel in the fishing line with both hands.

Soon, a rocket launcher squid weighing about half a pound surfaced.

"Not bad, not bad, this squid is quite plump, it would definitely taste great boiled."

Looking at her first harvest of the evening, Chen Zhiyao couldn't help but smile with joy.

Not long after the squid hook went back into the water, a second squid eagerly took the bait.

Feeling that the squid was heavier this time, Chen Zhiyao was particularly excited and hurriedly sped up the reeling-in of the line.

But unexpectedly, when she lifted the giant squid into the air, something unforeseen happened:

The squid, which had been obediently being pulled up, suddenly spurted out a jet of pitch-black liquid from its body.

The black ink shot straight toward the deck, leaving a large, dark mark on the pristine white surface in the blink of an eye.

"Phew... thank goodness, that was close! That ink almost splashed onto my pants."

Chen Zhiyao said with lingering fear, while carefully carrying the aggressive squid back to the surface of the sea.

The squid continued to spew ink in mid-air, turning the seawater below black.

Chen Zhiyao waited patiently until it had expelled all the ink from its body before reaching out to remove it from the fishhook.

In the time that followed, Chen Zhiyao was like a tireless squid robot.

With skillful and agile movements, she caught one plump squid after another in no time.

Moreover, she is extremely lucky and occasionally manages to catch one or two crystal-clear, transparent shrimp.

Looking at the small shrimp in her hand, Chen Zhiyao muttered to herself with a regretful expression:

"These little shrimp look delicious. It's a pity we can't use a net, otherwise we could catch all the little guys down there."

After saying that, she sighed softly and continued to focus on her squid fishing.

After the fishing hook went back into the water, a strong pull came not long after. Chen Zhiyao's heart tightened, and she immediately sensed something was wrong.

"He's quite strong. Could he have really caught a big fish?" she murmured to herself, her words revealing a hint of doubt and anticipation.

Chen Zhiyao gripped the fishing rod tightly with both hands and pulled it upwards with force. As she did so, something in the water gradually floated to the surface.

Upon seeing the massive object in mid-air, Chen Zhiyao's eyes widened and her mouth gaped open.

What was caught was not an ordinary fish, but a huge squid.

This squid was enormous, its length exceeding that of her arm.

Its thick tentacles waved in the air, as if demonstrating against her.

Chen Zhiyao stared blankly at the giant squid, filled with amazement.

"Goodness, this squid must weigh at least three pounds!" Looking at this enormous squid, Chen Zhiyao's mind was filled with thoughts of whether to boil it or make it into sashimi.
