In the beautiful underwater world, Chen Zhiyao's hands were full of all kinds of fresh fish, the heavy weight of which made her walk slowly.
It wasn't that she wanted to slow down on purpose; it was just that she had reaped so much today that even the ropes of the net had left deep red marks on her palms.
The path beneath our feet was almost entirely made up of oddly shaped stones.
The surface of these reefs is covered with sharp oyster shells, and it is easy to get injured if you step on them accidentally.
The lush seaweed seemed to have laid a green carpet over the rocks, making it slippery and difficult to stand firmly.
Some seaweed floats on the surface of the puddles, giving the illusion that it is flat ground, and you might accidentally step into the puddles.
Chen Zhiyao took each step with extreme caution, as if afraid of accidentally falling flat on her face.
I had only walked a short distance when Chen Weiqiang's loud voice suddenly came from behind me:
"Wow, today's harvest looks pretty good! This huge pile must weigh at least a hundred pounds!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Zhiyao's face immediately lit up with a smug smile, and she began to gloat:
"It was just so-so. We only caught a few small green lobsters weighing a little over a pound, a few large conch shells, and some sea cucumbers weighing more than half a pound."
His tone was full of pride, and anyone could hear the undisguised arrogance in his words.
Yan Shuting, who was walking alongside Chen Weiqiang, rolled her eyes upon hearing this and muttered irritably:
"Hmph, here comes another Versailles."
"That's Versailles, that's a fact." Chen Zhiyao's lips curled up wildly, her expression quite infuriating.
The family of three then started teasing and joking with each other, interspersed with their own embarrassing moments.
When the three returned to the beach, they saw that Grandpa Chen and Grandma Chen had already harvested four sacks of various seashells.
The most abundant items were clams and snails, filling two large sacks and weighing over 200 jin (approximately 100 kg) in total.
The other half consisted mostly of more expensive shellfish such as cat's eye snails, yellow clams, razor clams, and sea bean sprouts.
Besides these shellfish, the elderly couple even collected half a sack of conger eels.
These eels are basically all dead; they were pushed ashore by the sea this morning and look fairly fresh.
Unfortunately, these eels were not very big, all weighing around one pound each, and the large bag full of them looked quite frightening.
Chen Zhiyao glanced at it only once before quickly tying the bag up.
Despite the scary feeling, I couldn't help but think of all sorts of delicious dishes like braised conger eel, grilled conger eel, and eel fried rice.
Today was a high tide, and the family of five had a pretty good catch. The fish piled up like a mountain, and it took three trips to get them all onto the fishing boat.
I left home quite early today, and after cleaning up all the fish caught on the boat, it was only 10:30 am.
After eating some fruit and snacks, Chen Zhiyao dragged her mother down to go diving and catch seafood.
She had originally planned to invite her father along, but Chen Weiqiang and his grandfather were already fishing on the deck and completely ignored her.
The father and son were both quite upset about their consistently poor fishing results lately and were determined to catch some big fish to regain their pride.
Chen Zhiyao put on her diving suit and came to the deck. The father and son were arguing and betting on who would catch the biggest fish that day.
Grandma Chen sat to the side with a smile, fishing while watching the father and son bicker, and even happily acted as the referee.
The mother and daughter entered the water from a very good spot, and as soon as they came down, they found themselves surrounded by a colorful coral reef.
Directly in front of Chen Zhiyao was a large group of corals that looked like black fungus. Various small seafood in the underwater coral reefs love to hide inside these corals; it's practically a natural sanctuary.
Chen Zhiyao immediately turned on her X-ray glasses and stopped at the edge of the coral in a good mood.
Seemingly sensing the approaching danger, the flower eels inside the coral wriggled restlessly in the crevices.
This guy was racking his brains trying to hide himself more, but suddenly he couldn't move.
Immediately afterwards, the poor eel found itself being pinched.
This is a giant flower eel. Its body isn't very long, only about a meter long. But it's extremely thick, with the thickest part almost as thick as her arm.
The moray eel was white with some patterns on its body, and its color was very similar to that of the coral. Yan Shuting, who was standing next to it, did not notice it at all.
Looking at the huge thing that almost took up the entire net, Yan Shuting gave it a thumbs up with satisfaction.
The mother and daughter exchanged a glance, and then tacitly swam off in opposite directions.
Soon, Chen Zhiyao stopped in front of a cluster of yellow coral.
She parted the soft seaweed beside the coral and took out a black and white spiky ball that was a size larger than her fist.
Although it's a bit different from the black sea urchins I usually encounter, it's still a type of sea urchin, and it tastes quite good. This place is practically a sea urchin haven; besides a few small round balls hidden at the base of the seaweed, there are also spiky balls scattered in the crevices of the coral.
Like a diligent little bee, Chen Zhiyao picked up the plump sea urchins one by one.
In no time, the net bag was half full.
Just as Chen Zhiyao was immersed in the joy of her harvest, she suddenly noticed a huge bread crab on the rock to her left.
This thing is chubby and looks like a freshly baked loaf of bread; it looks especially soft.
Just as I picked this one up, a smaller bread crab scurried out menacingly from the crevice.
They looked like a young couple, so Chen Zhiyao happily caught them and let them reunite.
A family should be together all the time!
Apart from these two bread crabs, these few rocks in front of us are practically a kingdom of seashells.
Hidden in the crevice on the left are three horseshoe snails the size of fists; beside the rock on the right is a spider snail that looks like an alien creature; and in the gap between two rocks directly in front are two coconut snails that look like real coconuts.
Besides the large ones hiding in the crevices, many beautiful little snails also climb on the surface of the rocks.
Further ahead, you'll find a group of plump whelks hiding in the sand.
Like ants carrying food, Chen Zhiyao packed all the delicious conches into the net bag in her hand.
In just a few minutes, the net bag, which had been half-filled with sea urchins, was now completely stuffed full.
Chen Zhiyao looked down and pulled out a new net bag. When she looked up, she saw a huge starfish right in front of her.
This starfish looks quite strange. Its body is a pale purple, but the center is yellow, and it's covered in fleshy spines. The more you look at this strange starfish, the more odd it seems; it has a plastic feel, like a plastic toy.
Chen Zhiyao curiously picked up the starfish in front of her and then noticed that the furry little tentacles on its back were moving wildly.
Although it looks strange, it is indeed a real starfish.
Chen Zhiyao put it back with a regretful expression. She thought it was something fun.
