Yellow croakers don't live long after being taken out of the water, so Grandpa Chen put them all in the freezer.
The old man had just come out of the freezer when Chen Zhiyao's alarm went off.
The fishing boat quickly arrived at the spot where the nets had been set that morning, and the nets were slowly pulled up by the crane at the stern.
Standing to the side, Chen Zhiyao could clearly see many golden yellow croakers hanging on the net.
The fish weren't very big, weighing at most about a pound, but there were many of them, making the fishing nets a bright yellow.
Looking at the golden patch on the net, Chen Zhiyao couldn't be happier:
"So many yellow croakers, it seems we've encountered a school of yellow croakers today."
Before setting the net in the morning, the grandfather and grandson used a fish finder to search the area and found a school of fish before setting the net there.
However, the fish finder is too old to display what kind of fish this school of fish is.
Grandpa Chen, with his extensive experience, could tell at a glance that this net contained at least 100 jin (50 kg) of yellow croaker.
Even at 20 yuan per jin, this net of fish is worth more than two thousand yuan.
Before they could even put away the fishing net, the grandfather and grandson pulled up the crab trap that was not far away.
It seems there are quite a few fish today; most of the fish in the eight fish traps are yellow croaker.
There were only two crab traps further away, but not many—only four mud crabs and three swimming crabs in total.
The three fish traps pulled up first from the system's five traps were all filled with yellow croaker.
Chen Zhiyao stepped forward and mentioned that each fish trap contained about 20 kilograms of yellow croaker.
Catching yellow croaker with the gillnet was fine, but she didn't expect the fish trap to be full of these small fish as well.
Although there are quite a few, the price is low; in fact, it's not even worth as much as a single large fish from before.
"There are still two fish traps left. Hopefully, there will be some expensive big fish inside." Chen Zhiyao pinned her hopes on the last two fish traps.
To her surprise, the fourth trap also contained yellow croakers. Although they were larger than the previous ones, they did not make her happy at all.
As for the last cage, it was even worse; it contained two sea wolves weighing seven or eight pounds each.
"It's not even as good as yellow croaker."
Looking at the two ferocious-looking sea wolves in front of her, Chen Zhiyao suddenly felt that the yellow croaker in front of her was not bad either.
Although the catch from the fish traps was less than satisfactory, the large harvest of yellow croaker made the overall haul not bad.
Chen Zhiyao put nearly 300 kilograms of yellow croaker into the freezer.
On the previous voyages, the freezer compartment was hardly used, and Chen Zhiyao didn't want to buy ice when going out to sea.
However, Grandpa Chen thought that just in case it might come in handy, so he still let her buy 100 yuan worth of ice.
Fortunately, my grandfather had the foresight to prevent these yellow croakers from suffering today.
Today, Yang Jiajun went to other places to collect fish, and Li Qingqing was waiting at the dock with a helper.
Knowing that there was a batch of yellow croaker coming today, Li Qingqing specially brought over a refrigerated truck as well.
Xiao Li, the helper, and Grandpa Chen carried all the yellow croakers from the freezer compartment onto the refrigerated truck.
Chen Zhiyao and Li Qingqing then transferred the rest of the catch from the fishing boat onto the tricycle.
The four of them quickly packed up the various fish caught from the fishing boat and delivered them to the Yang family's purchasing station.
The first fish to be weighed was the yellow croaker. Grandpa Chen's weighed 22 jin, while Chen Zhiyao's weighed more, totaling 286 jin.
Li Qingqing saw that although these yellow croakers were not very big, they were all quite fresh, so she priced them all at 20 yuan per jin.
Grandpa Chen's weighs 22 jin (11 catties), and the total is 440 yuan.
Chen Zhiyao weighs 286 jin (approximately 148 catties) and the total price is 5720 yuan.
Then there were the other catches.
Large mud crabs weighing over one jin (approximately 500 grams) cost 5 jin (approximately 2.5 kg) at 70 yuan per jin, totaling 350 yuan. Small mud crabs cost 3 jin (approximately 1.5 kg) at 48 yuan per jin, totaling 144 yuan.
Four jin of whelks cost 35 yuan per jin, for a total of 144 yuan. Five jin of spicy whelks cost 16 yuan per jin, for a total of 80 yuan.
1.6 jin of conch, 100 yuan per jin, totaling 160 yuan. 3.6 jin of goose barnacles, 180 yuan per jin, totaling 540 yuan.
Swimming crabs, 3 jin, 60 yuan per jin, total 180 yuan. Oysters, 22 jin, 6 yuan per jin, total 132 yuan.
43 jin of sea wolf, 10 yuan per jin, totaling 430 yuan. 7.2 jin of large eel, 65 yuan per jin, totaling 460 yuan.
7 jin of grouper, 50 yuan per jin, totaling 350 yuan. 3 jin of white pomfret, 23 yuan per jin, totaling 69 yuan.
Adding the 5720 yuan from the yellow croaker, Chen Zhiyao's total income for today is 8759 yuan.
Of these, 188 yuan were for the large sea wolves caught, and 8,571 yuan were for points that could be earned.
Chen Zhiyao calculated that, with today's points, she could unlock the fishing section.
So while everyone was busy with their grandfather's fish catch, I quickly logged into the system.
Before I could even open the points page, Xiaomeng's voice rang out:
"Congratulations, Tangtang! You have now unlocked the fishing section. From now on, the money you earn from fishing will be counted towards your points."
Host: Chen Zhiyao
Level: Fishing Level 1, Beachcombing Level 3
Points: 168
Perspective range: 3 meters on the ground, 10 meters in the sea.
Visible viewing time: three hours each day for both the land and sea areas.
Chen Zhiyao noticed that many data points on the points page had changed, and quickly asked:
"Xiaomeng, are the fishing area and the beachcombing area separate? Tell me quickly, what's going on between the land and the sea?"
"The ground is the same as before, the X-ray vision function can be used for three hours a day, the range is three meters away from you."
"The seawater is like a fishing spot. If you open the X-ray glasses, you can see creatures up to ten meters below the surface."
"Now you have two pairs of X-ray glasses. The green one is for beachcombing, and the blue one is for fishing."
Chen Zhiyao opened the toolbar, and sure enough, there were two pairs of glasses inside.
"However, the goggles used for fishing are different from those used for beachcombing. They can't clearly see the different kinds of creatures in the water; you can only see their size and location."
After listening to Xiaomeng's long explanation, Chen Zhiyao roughly understood.
Everything in the beachcombing area remains the same; she now only has a pair of X-ray glasses for fishing.
By wearing fishing goggles that allow her to see through objects, she can see the size and exact location of creatures in the water.
"These fishing goggles seem pretty good. I'll just put the bait right next to the big fish's mouth, and I don't believe they won't take the bait."
After briefly reviewing the fishing section, Chen Zhiyao quickly logged out.
At that moment, Grandpa Chen had just finished settling his accounts.
Large blue crabs weighing over one jin (approximately 500 grams) weigh 2.3 jin (approximately 1.15 kg) and cost 70 yuan per jin, totaling 161 yuan. Orchid crabs weighing 2 jin (approximately 1 kg) cost 48 yuan per jin, totaling 96 yuan.
8 jin of sea bass, 36 yuan per jin, totaling 288 yuan. 2.6 jin of black sea bream, 54 yuan per jin, totaling 141 yuan.
Large red sea bream (3.5 jin) cost 88 yuan per jin, totaling 308 yuan. Sea snails (4.8 jin) cost 35 yuan per jin, totaling 168 yuan.
With the addition of the 440 yuan for the yellow croaker, Grandpa Chen's income today is 1602 yuan.
The grandfather and grandson returned home early today; Chen Weiqiang hadn't come home yet when they arrived.
Chen Zhiyao carried a small bucket of seafood and came to the kitchen with a smile.
"Mom, I caught two dogfish today, as well as some rock crabs and orchid crabs. Let's cook them together later. I'll call Uncle and the others over for dinner."
Yan Shuting, who was cleaning a fish, looked up and replied cheerfully:
"Okay, call your aunt now and tell her not to cook dinner, but to come over for dinner later."
"Okay, I'll make the call right now."
