Chapter 34 The Gift of the Sea 3

The rocky beach in the village is quite large. Coming from the white sand beach, the junction is a rocky beach made up of small stones.

The further you go, the larger the rocks become. In the middle of the rocky beach, huge rocks form large pools of varying depths.

Keep walking forward, and at the end of the road is the secret fishing spot we used to go.

The first half of the journey along the rocky beach consisted mostly of small rocks, and Chen Zhiyao reaped a bountiful harvest along the way, her sack almost full.

However, the latter part was mostly puddles.

The puddles here are quite large, mostly over three or four square meters.

Chen Zhiyao's X-ray vision was completely useless in this large puddle, so she could only walk forward quickly.

However, this area is full of giant reefs, which are the places where crabs love to hide. Along the way, we picked up several more blue crabs and orchid crabs.

Orchid Crab +2

Blue Crab +3

These guys are quite big, mostly weighing between half a pound and a pound.

Unfortunately, two of them had missing limbs, and one even lost both of its pliers.

Only one orchid crab and one blue crab remained intact.

As Chen Zhiyao tied up the crabs, she muttered to herself:

"Fortunately, crabs are expensive, so even with a 20% discount, it was still a decent profit."

Surrounded by large rocks and puddles, Chen Zhiyao didn't linger and soon arrived at her secret fishing spot.

It's probably because of the continuous storms these past two days that the anglers didn't know the rain had stopped today, and surprisingly, no one came to fish at this time.

After passing the rocky beach, there is a small mudflat ahead.

At this time, the tide had just receded to its lowest point, and the beach was covered with small seashells and a few valuable seafood items.

Chen Zhiyao looked down and saw a razor clam swimming.

Although this thing is similar in color to the bottom of the puddle, it has nowhere to hide under the sunlight.

Razor clams

Chen Zhiyao reached out and picked it up; it was a bamboo clam, and quite plump.

Moreover, there wasn't just one razor clam around; there was a small patch of razor clams breathing nearby.

Through X-ray glasses, it was clear that there were many plump razor clams under the sand.

Chen Zhiyao looked at the small bucket in her hand and thankfully she had brought salt with her when she left home.

Chen Zhiyao deftly used a sand shovel to scrape off the surface layer of sand, and then frantically sprinkled salt into the small holes.

Sprinkling salt like crazy

Salt only cost two yuan a bag, so Chen Zhiyao didn't mind spending the money and kept spraying salt into the small holes.

Before the salt was even finished being sprinkled, some little guys couldn't wait any longer and eagerly crawled out of the small holes.

Razor clams

Seeing the razor clams emerging like bamboo shoots, Chen Zhiyao quickly pulled them out.

"Not bad, not bad, it's quite plump."

The little guy in my hand is noticeably fatter than the one that was swimming earlier.

Immediately afterwards, plump little creatures also emerged from the small holes next to them.

These razor clams sprouted out almost all at once, like bamboo shoots after a heavy rain, and Chen Zhiyao was almost overwhelmed with their numbers.

Later she learned her lesson and stopped being greedy, making sure to spray the salt in a smaller area.

When she finished using the salt shaker in her hand, the small bucket at her feet was almost full, probably weighing about 8 pounds.

Salt was sprayed into almost all the small holes around the pit. Carrying her heavy harvest, Chen Zhiyao continued walking happily toward the pit trap.

Along the way, Chen Zhiyao picked up some more little creatures with a big smile.

Cat's Eye Snail +2

Conch +1

Octopus +3

Flower snail +5

The mudflats weren't very big to begin with, and soon she arrived at the innermost small rocky area.

The rocky beach is actually just a small patch of rocks of varying sizes.

Chen Zhiyao had specifically chosen the location for the fish trap, as there were already quite a few dead corals underneath.

Both crabs and fish like to hide in coral reefs, making them a great place to set traps.

Chen Zhiyao checked the timer for the X-ray vision function and found there were still 40 minutes left, so she quickly turned it off.

By this time, the large sack that Chen Zhiyao had brought was already full, the small bucket was full of razor clams, and there was also a net bag full of cat's eye snails.

Chen Zhiyao put these things away and was about to collect the traps when she turned around and saw a very conspicuous big guy in a small puddle.

Its yellowish-brown shell, with some brown spots on it, looks like a small coconut from a distance.

This is a coconut snail, almost as big as her head.

It was also the largest snail Chen Zhiyao had ever seen in her more than 20 years.

Coconut snails, also known as coconut vortex snails or papaya snails, have yellowish-brown shells shaped like papayas, smooth with dark brown spots.

Looking at this huge creature, Chen Zhiyao was immediately delighted. "There's even a coconut snail! I wonder if there are any pearls inside?"

Pearls can be found inside coconut snails; these pearls are called Melo pearls.

However, the probability is extremely low; I've heard that the chance of getting Melaleuca is only one in a thousand.

Moreover, coconut snails are rare; my grandparents were fishermen their whole lives, but they never found a single Melo pearl.

She had only seen this thing online; she hadn't seen anyone in the village have it yet.

Chen Zhiyao quickly went down into the puddle and picked up the precious coconut snail.

Unexpectedly, the thing felt very light in my hand, and when I turned it over, it turned out to be an empty shell.

Coconut snail shell

Chen Zhiyao was so angry that she almost threw the thing away.

However, the shell of this coconut snail is quite pretty, so I kept it in the end, planning to take it home as a decoration.

Last time, seven traps were set, but Chen Zhiyao has only found five so far. The remaining two were probably blown away by the typhoon.

The first trap yielded a pretty good catch, containing two 3-4 ounce stone bream and a 2-pound green bream.

Looking at the brightly colored blue-and-white fish, Chen Zhiyao couldn't help but let her lips curl into a wide smile.

"A two-pound or more bluefin croaker, such a size is not common, it can sell for at least sixty or seventy yuan per pound."

Then came the second fish trap. It felt light in her hand, but when Chen Zhiyao looked down, she saw that there were several places where the hooks had been damaged, and the fish inside had already escaped.

The third trap yielded only two octopuses and a small bass weighing 2 pounds.

After two unsuccessful attempts with the traps, Chen Zhiyao pinned her hopes on the fourth trap.

Two big eyes stared intently at the sea, her heart filled with both excitement and trepidation.

The fourth cage was very heavy, and Chen Zhiyao had to use a lot of effort to pull it up.

The contents are a mixed bag, including orchid crabs, blue crabs, octopuses, yellow-legged crabs, and rock geese.

Basically, each variety weighs about one or two kilograms.

There's only one trap left. The haul just now was pretty good. Chen Zhiyao was filled with anticipation as she gripped the rope holding the trap tightly with both hands.

Retrieving the trap is like opening a blind box; the anticipation is immense.

The moment the fish trap was pulled out of the sea, Chen Zhiyao felt her breath catch for two seconds.

The last cage was empty, but what was inside was anything but simple, even exceeding Chen Zhiyao's expectations.

(No prize! Can you guess what this amazing thing is? ( ˉ???ˉ?? )?)
