Chapter 59 Seagull Island 2

Feeling the immense pull from the fishing rod, the old man laughed even more excitedly.

Grandpa Chen, an experienced angler, did not choose to confront the big guy head-on.

Instead, it rhythmically reeled in and out the fish, trying to wear down the big fish's strength.

The fish had been played for quite some time, and the stinging pain from the hook had completely worn it down, causing the big guy to lose all patience.

Suddenly, the fish in the sea began to struggle violently, thrashing about wildly. The fierce pull almost caused Grandpa Chen to lose his grip on the fishing rod.

The fishing hook provoked the large creature on the seabed, causing it to flip violently and deform the fishing rod.

Just as Grandpa Chen tensed the muscles in his arm, the fishing rod suddenly felt light, and the fishing line floated lightly on the sea surface.

"Holy crap..."

Grandpa Chen was about to utter a string of curses, but remembering that his granddaughter was still beside him, he had no choice but to swallow them back with a pitiful expression.

Hearing that something was wrong with the old man's voice, Chen Zhiyao turned her head and found that the fishing line, which had been taut, was now swaying lightly.

Depending on the situation, it's either unhooked or the line has broken.

Seeing the old man's angry expression, his thigh almost swollen from slapping, she didn't dare to speak carelessly, for fear of incurring his wrath.

She once witnessed two brothers turn against each other after a fish got away while she was fishing at sea.

She watched the commotion for quite a while.

Grandpa Chen reeled in the fishing line and finally discovered that the section of line near the hook was missing, which clearly meant the line had broken.

Then the old man grumbled and changed to an even thicker fishing line, "Hmph, let's see how you cut the line now."

The old man was quite lucky; less than a minute after the fishing hook went into the water, another fish took the bait.

The fishing line was pulled taut. Although this fish was a little weaker than the previous one, it probably weighed about seven or eight pounds.

Grandpa Chen, who had been angry just moments before, adjusted the drag on his fishing rod with a smile on his face.

"The fishing is great today, all big fish."

Seeing the old man bring out two big fish in a row, Chen Zhiyao felt a pang of jealousy.

"Why haven't any fish taken the bait yet? Are there any fish around here?"

Since she caught that bluefin bream, she has been sitting there for half an hour, and she hasn't caught a big fish, not even a two-ounce stone goby.

Grandpa Chen, standing to the side, was so happy that he danced around, tug-of-war with the fish in the sea.

Unfortunately, his good fortune didn't last long. Before he could exhaust himself playing with the fish in the sea, the fishing rod slipped from his hand again.

After cutting the line twice, and both times it was a big fish, Old Master Chen was so frustrated that he wished he could jump into the water immediately and chase the fish back.

Grandpa Chen took a few deep breaths, but he still couldn't calm down.

Two fish escaped in a row, which left him with a psychological trauma.

Finally, Grandpa Chen dejectedly switched to a size 6 hook, intending to remove the small fish from the middle and upper layers of the water.

Just as Grandpa Chen finally caught a rock goby, Chen Zhiyao was practically going moldy from waiting, and she had several mosquito bites on her neck.

Chen Zhiyao felt increasingly uneasy. Was it because the feng shui of the place she was staying was bad? Or were there simply no fish here?

But her grandfather, Shi Jiugong, who was three or four meters away, kept taking the bait one after another.

Although it wasn't very big, at least I managed to catch it.

Just as Chen Zhiyao was dozing off, the fishing rod in her hand finally made a sound.

His half-closed eyes immediately lit up, and all his drowsiness vanished completely.

Even though the pulling force from the fishing rod was only a little, she didn't mind and happily started playing the fish.

After playing with the fish for about two minutes, I felt that the little fish was really losing its energy, so I frantically spun the fishing reel and pulled the little guy out of the sea.

Immediately afterwards, she flew a small grouper that was slightly white, brown on its back, and covered with many spots onto the shore.

The grouper looked so strange that she couldn't immediately recall what kind of grouper it was.

Chen Zhiyao had no choice but to ask her grandfather for help, "Grandpa, what kind of grouper is this?"

When the old man saw the fish in his granddaughter's hand, his voice trembled with excitement:

"This is a grouper, it's a good stuff, about the same price as a red grouper."

Chen Zhiyao's voice rose several octaves, "So expensive? This one I have weighs at least two pounds, so it must cost over a thousand yuan?"

Now Chen Zhiyao didn't dare to handle the fish carelessly, as if she was afraid of damaging it. She carefully removed the fishhook and gently placed it into the live fish bucket.

Mouse spots

The grouper, named for its head shape which resembles a mouse, is a highly prized species.

They are usually white and covered with black spots. However, their color can change depending on the surrounding light.

They typically inhabit reefs, are ferocious carnivorous fish, and are highly territorial.

Not only is the grouper delicious, but it is also a high-end ornamental fish, currently one of the most expensive groupers.

Although Grandpa Chen caught several stone goby fish, they were not very big, each weighing only two or three ounces, and together they weighed only about two pounds.

Although Chen Zhiyao only had two fish in her bucket, one was a bluefin bream weighing over a pound, and the other was a grouper weighing two pounds. Overall, the weight was significantly greater.

Moreover, both fish are quite expensive, with the latter being significantly more expensive.

Chen Zhiyao was beaming with joy, confident that she had already won the match.

Just as she was happily scrolling through her phone, Grandpa Chen's fishing rod caught another fish, and it was a fairly large one at that.

However, the old man was particularly nervous this time because he was using a small hook, fearing that the five or six-pound fish would break the line again.

After a nerve-wracking 10-minute chase, the old man finally caught the last pearl grouper, weighing about 5 pounds.

The old man, carrying the grouper, looked at Chen Zhiyao with a smug expression, "Hahaha, everyone said there was still plenty of time, and this big fish has already taken the bait."

With the addition of this pearl grouper, the old man's catch suddenly surpassed that of the others.

Although her catch was lighter, it was more expensive, which Chen Zhiyao tried to console herself with.

Another hour passed, and when Chen Zhiyao's stomach started growling with hunger, there were quite a few fish in the buckets at their feet.

Grandpa Chen's side has a 5-pound pearl spotted barb, a 2-pound sea wolf, and 9 stone gobies.

On Chen Zhiyao's side, there was still only one bluefin bream and one grouper.

Although Yao Yao is ahead in terms of price, she is far behind in terms of weight.

"There's still an afternoon to go, no rush."

After encouraging herself, Chen Zhiyao rubbed her rumbling stomach, took out her phone, and saw that it was already 12:30.

The two quickly packed their things and paddled back to the fishing boat in their kayak.

Chen Zhiyao selected some cuttlefish, octopus, and a few small miscellaneous fish to make a big pot of seafood noodles.

Topped with vibrant green scallions, it looks so delicious it makes your mouth water.

Chen Zhiyao and Grandpa Chen each carried a stainless steel bowl the size of their face, filled with steaming hot seafood noodles, onto the deck.

The boundless sea

The gentle, comfortable sea breeze and the boundless ocean create a sense of tranquility and healing.

After eating and drinking their fill, the grandfather and grandson discussed it and decided to go sea fishing by boat.

There's a basic fish finder on the boat, so I'll test it out to see if it works.
