Chapter 37 Evening Beachcombing 1

I got home from Tanah Lot Temple at exactly 2 o'clock.

Chen Zhiyao got up at 5 a.m. to go beachcombing and had been busy all morning, so she was a little sleepy.

By this time, the tide had already risen, and it was no longer possible to go beachcombing.

She planned to take a nap and then go beachcombing and setting fish traps in the evening.

Yan Shuting had already repaired the three broken cages she had brought home earlier.

In addition to the two old fish traps at home, there were also the six large fish traps that Chen Weiqiang brought back.

There are still 11 fish traps at home. I'll set them all tonight, and I expect to make a good profit tomorrow.

1200 points is nothing.

Thinking of her adorable little money, Chen Zhiyao was no longer sleepy, and her two bright eyes shone with excitement.

On the day the typhoon hit, she had just bought more than 30 kilograms of small miscellaneous fish, which she hadn't used last time and had frozen in the freezer.

Chen Zhiyao took out two large bags of small fish and put them into a bucket.

Take it out to thaw now, and it will be ready to use when setting up the trap in the evening.

Chen Zhiyao heard at the market that morning that using chicken and duck offal as bait and groundbait was very effective.

However, she hadn't tried it and didn't know if it was real, so she didn't buy it.

Now she was starting to regret it, muttering to herself:

"I'll buy some duck liver next time and try it out. It has a strong flavor, and maybe it will attract more big guys."

"The best way is to use half duck liver and half small fish, so you can compare and see which bait works better."

Chen Zhiyao muttered to herself for a while, and then she fell asleep from talking.

Back in her room, she set her alarm for 4 a.m., changed into clean clothes, and started her beauty sleep.

After waking up, Chen Zhiyao deftly placed the thawed small fish into the fish trap.

Then she drove her beloved tricycle to the seaside.

Passing by the family's small shop, Chen Zhiyao pulled over and said with a grin to Yan Shuting inside:

"Mom, I'm going to go beachcombing and set some fish traps. I'll probably be back late, so don't wait up for me for dinner tonight."

He was about to drive away when his mother called him back.

"Wait a minute, no one's coming to buy anything at this time. Let's go beachcombing together."

As she spoke, Yan Shuting closed the doors of the convenience store and the courier station, then picked up a small blue bucket and walked over quickly.

When the mother and daughter arrived at the beach, the tide had just begun to recede.

Everyone picked up a lot of good stuff on the beach this morning, and since it's still early, there are hardly any people coming to go beachcombing.

Looking around, apart from the mother and daughter, the only other person on the beach was Grandpa Zhang, the most hardworking man in the village, who was out gathering seafood.

Before Chen Zhiyao had even parked her car, she saw a cat's-eye snail on the wet sand that hadn't yet settled.

Cat's Eye Snail

"What beautiful cat's eye snails!"

Chen Zhiyao quickly stopped the car, ran over excitedly, and picked up the little guy.

"Mom, look at my cat's eye snail, isn't it pretty? The cat's eye in the middle looks like it's alive."

Chen Zhiyao, with a childlike expression, waved the cat's eye snail in her hand at her mother, smiling foolishly.

Yan Shuting goes beachcombing every day; she's seen all sorts of beautiful seashells. She casually brushed it off:

"It is quite beautiful."

Then, carrying her little blue bucket, she started beachcombing on the white sand beach.

"You're being too perfunctory; you didn't even glance at it."

Chen Zhiyao mumbled complaints, but only in a whisper, afraid that her mother, the "tiger mom," would hear her.

The tide is just starting to recede, and it's not time to set up traps yet, so the mother and daughter are each digging for seafood on the beach.

The beach area is usually filled with inexpensive little things, and Chen Zhiyao didn't turn on her X-ray vision glasses, strolling leisurely along the sand.

After taking only two steps, I spotted a cat's eye snail that wasn't completely hidden yet.

Cat's Eye Snails in Wosha

This one is even bigger than the cat's eye snail we just saw, and the meat inside is very thick.

Chen Zhiyao grabbed the snail meat with her hand, and several jets of water sprayed out from the sponge-like meat.

Having just arrived and already found two fairly valuable little creatures, Chen Zhiyao's steps became much lighter.

Winter days are short, and the sun has already set. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and with a sea breeze blowing, it's very pleasant.

Chen Zhiyao has been well-behaved and sensible since she was a child. In her spare time, she would go beachcombing with the adults at home and rarely watched TV or played on her phone, so her eyesight is exceptionally good.

Then, we could see a little guy on the beach from afar.

hairy clam

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a small hairy clam. It wasn't very big, but it was edible.

Before the little guy could even lie down on the sand, Chen Zhiyao grabbed him with her little hand and put him in her pocket.

Small hairy clam

Hairy clams, also known as hairy cockles, are a very common type of shellfish here.

Hairy clams are generally brown or gray, with very thick shells and a layer of velvety outer skin.

Clams can grow very large; this one is considered small. Some are as big as her fist.

Just then, the sound of an electric scooter came from behind Chen Zhiyao; more people were coming to gather seafood.

She quickened her pace and walked towards the rocky beach ahead.

After walking about 10 meters, I saw two very conspicuous little babies.

Chen Zhiyao's clear and bright eyes crinkled into crescent moons as she cheerfully hurried over.

It turned out to be a very plump and meaty scallop and a small hairy clam.

scallops and small clams

Chen Zhiyao chuckled as she picked up the small clams and put them into the bucket, then diligently dug for ribbons with a sand shovel.

The sand here is mixed with some black mud, making it quite firm and difficult to dig.

Dig and dig

She dug several times before finally managing to pull out the ribbon, which was larger than her own palm.

The belt looked dirty, so Chen Zhiyao casually put it into a nearby puddle to bathe it.

The tide had just receded, and the various little creatures on the beach hadn't had a chance to lie on the sand or run away yet.

Larger clams like moon clams, cat's eye snails, and hairy clams are quite conspicuous on the beach.

Chen Zhiyao hardly needed to look for it; she could simply bend down and pick it up.

The storm a couple of days ago washed up many small seashells, and by this morning they had all been picked clean.

Although the tide has come in and gone, there's not much left on the beach now, at least half as much as when she came to go beachcombing a few days ago.

By the time I had collected half a bucket of seashells, quite a few people had already arrived on the beach to go beachcombing.

Seeing that the tide had receded by half, Chen Zhiyao was preparing to drive the fish trap over to the coral reef.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something emitting colorful light in a puddle not far away.

"What is this?" Chen Zhiyao asked excitedly as she walked forward.
