Chen Zhiyao put her phone away, preparing to go back to fishing.
To my surprise, when I looked up, I saw that my original spot had already been taken by my dad and grandpa.
The two of them threw their bait directly into the spot where she had just been fishing, hoping to catch a big one weighing over 50 kilograms.
Chen Zhiyao thought to herself, speechless, "Where did all these big fish come from?"
But she underestimated the power of the lucky fishing rod.
Before she could even tease the two of them, Grandpa Chen got a bite on his hook, and judging from the curve of the fishing rod, the fish must be quite big.
Chen Zhiyao turned on her X-ray glasses and walked over with a curious expression.
On the seabed, a plump, large black shadow was swimming frantically; it looked like a fish that had taken the bait.
Judging from its size and shape, Chen Zhiyao felt it must be a grouper weighing over ten kilograms.
On the other side of the sea, a slightly larger dark shape was quietly moving towards his father's fishing bait.
It's a size bigger than my grandfather's, probably weighing about 20 pounds.
However, apart from these two big ones, the rest were all small fry.
Without the big fish, Chen Zhiyao didn't want to stay there any longer. She got up and walked around the fishing boat, finally stopping at the stern.
There weren't many fish around, except for a few large and small sea fish at the stern of the boat.
The fish looked to be only about four or five pounds. The original fishing hook was too big, so Chen Zhiyao changed it to a smaller one, and the bait changed from live shrimp to shrimp meat.
After finding a good spot, she put half a shrimp on the fishing hook and threw it into the water.
Chen Zhiyao caught two four- or five-pound wavy groupers in a row, and Grandpa Chen finally pulled the big fish out of the water.
Amidst the splashing water, she saw a dark gray striped grouper.
However, it was much smaller than the one I had just caught, weighing only about seventeen or eighteen pounds.
Judging from its color, you can tell this fish isn't fully grown yet.
The electronic scale was right next to him, and the old man happily put the fish in his hand on it.
18.5 jin (approximately 9.25 catties) is not small.
Grandpa Chen beamed as he picked up the big guy, then happily called his granddaughter to take a picture with him.
Although it's not as big as the grouper my granddaughter had earlier, which weighed over 50 pounds, it's still quite rare to see one this big.
That's enough for the old man to brag about to his old friends.
"Great, very handsome."
Chen Zhiyao took on the role of photographer without complaint.
Just as the grandfather and grandson finished taking photos, Chen Weiqiang pulled an even larger striped grouper out of the sea.
"Hehe, mine is even bigger, it weighs at least 20 kilograms."
Chen Weiqiang, carrying the fish, looked at his father with a smug expression and a hint of provocation in his eyes, which infuriated the old man.
"What are you so smug about, you little brat? The big yellow croaker and manta ray you just caught aren't as good as the ones I caught."
Ignoring his father's sour remarks, Chen Weiqiang smugly placed the striped grouper on the electronic scale.
Grandpa Chen went over and, upon seeing the reading on the scale, immediately began to criticize:
"They said it weighed over 20 jin, but it's clearly only 19.8 jin."
"That's still bigger than the one you caught," Chen Weiqiang retorted, unconvinced.
Seeing that the two were not giving way to each other and looked like they were about to fight, Chen Zhiyao quickly pulled them apart.
"There are quite a few wavy grouper over there at the stern. I just caught two. Let's go fish over there before the school disperses."
Hearing that the fishing was going well, the father and son immediately picked up their fishing gear and obediently followed Chen Zhiyao to the stern of the boat.
When Chen Zhiyao returned to the stern, she was pleasantly surprised to find that there were many more fish than before.
There was also a small group of fish that looked a lot like large yellow croakers, but they were a bit small, probably only a little over a pound.
Seeing that most of the fish were not big, she specifically reminded the two that since the fish here were not big, it would be best to switch to smaller hooks.
Chen Zhiyao was more familiar with the fishing conditions here, so the two of them naturally listened to her. They skillfully changed the large hooks to small ones.
The shrimp had only been in the water for less than a minute when Chen Zhiyao felt a slight vibration in the fishing rod in her hand.
Feeling a fish bite, I gripped the rod tightly and skillfully lifted it to set the hook.
Sensing that the fish wasn't very strong, I immediately started reeling in the line frantically.
In less than two minutes, a fish weighing over a pound was flown onto the deck.
The fish has a slender body and is covered with golden scales.
Unfortunately, this is just a relative of the large yellow croaker: the yellow croaker.
Looking at the yellow croaker in her hand that looked just like a large yellow croaker, Chen Zhiyao's smile immediately vanished.
"Sigh, what a waste of my excitement. I'll save this fish for lunch." With that, he casually tossed it into the bucket.
When the fishing hook went into the water again, the father and son next to them also caught yellow croakers one after the other.
These yellow croakers seemed to have been starving for days; as soon as the hook hit the water, fish would immediately bite.
One after another, it was almost overwhelming.
Although the fish wasn't very big, the feeling of catching them one after another was still quite exhilarating. The three of them, grandfather, grandson, and granddaughter, were so happy that they forgot to eat lunch.
Chen Weiqiang, beaming with joy, flew another yellow croaker from the sea:
"Haha, look at this one, it weighs at least two pounds."
"What's there to brag about? Mine was bigger, at least two and a half pounds."
The old man gave his son a disdainful look, then caught another yellow croaker from the sea.
Chen Zhiyao, whose bucket had already overflowed, calmly said:
"Sigh, this bucket is still too small; it'll be full in no time."
Chen Weiqiang: "..."
Grandpa Chen: "..."
"Ha ha ha ha……"
Seeing the two people's indignant yet envious eyes, Chen Zhiyao burst into laughter.
The lively chatter of the grandfather, grandfather, and grandson scared away the seagulls circling overhead.
Seagull: Let's go, let's go! Humans are too scary!
When Chen Zhiyao checked the time, she saw a photo of lunch posted by her cousin-in-law in the family group chat, and then she remembered that they hadn't had lunch yet.
It was almost 1 o'clock, so the grandfather, grandson, and granddaughter quickly packed up their fishing gear and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
While cooking in the kitchen, Chen Zhiyao felt like she had forgotten something, but after thinking for a while, she still couldn't remember what she had forgotten.
During dinner, she opened the family group chat and saw a photo of steamed crabs posted by her mother.
Then I remembered that I was so focused on setting the gillnets and fishing in the morning that I forgot to set the fish traps and crab traps.
However, we only have a little over an hour left before we have to bring the fishing nets back, and it's too late now.
