When Sun Yunmei saw Mingjing return carrying a bucket, she naturally assumed there must be a large shipment. Seeing the mysterious expressions on their faces, she was even more certain.
"Leilei, you better keep your mouth shut. You're not allowed to talk about what happened today," Mingjing warned Minglei sternly, pulling him aside.
"What is this mysterious thing?" Sun Yunmei wondered to herself, and leaned closer to take a closer look.
Mingjing took a clean large basin and poured all the honeycomb into it. A lot of honeycomb got stuck to the burlap sack, and she used a spoon to peel it off little by little.
"What is this sticky stuff?" Sun Yunmei had never seen this thing before, and her eyes widened in surprise.
"Honey."
Upon hearing that it was honey, Sun Yunmei was excited. She carefully touched it and then scooped out a little and put it in her mouth.
"There's also a cartload of barnacles."
As he spoke, Ming Dahai drove in and closed the door.
"What is that?"
Sun Yunmei was overjoyed to see Ming Dahai coming over, and her heart was filled with excitement.
"Hundreds of kilograms of Buddha's Hand snails!"
Sun Yunmei clapped her hands with joy, stepped forward, lifted the sack, grabbed a handful, and laughed out loud.
"Wow, you've struck it rich! Where did you get all this stuff?" she asked in a very low voice.
Ming Dahai told us about the island, "If we keep that tree and harvest it once a year, we can definitely make a lot of money. It's like raising wild bees."
And that rock, if we wait a bit, there might be barnacles there too.
"This is our family's source of income, and no one can tell anyone about it," Ming Dahai said in a very low voice.
"I know, I know," Sun Yunmei said with a sweet smile, sucking on her fingers.
Ming Lei nodded, "Don't worry, I'm very tight-lipped."
"How big must this be?" Sun Yunmei glanced at the honey, unable to hide her delight. "Is that place particularly secluded?"
"Don't worry, no one knows about that side except us."
"That's alright."
Sun Yunmei was about to say something when Mingliang's stomach growled loudly, "Mom, is there any leftovers? We ate seafood on the island, it wasn't filling."
"Look how happy I am! I've been waiting for you to come back, and I've already prepared everything."
Sun Yunmei smiled as she carried the food to the pot; it was still warm.
"Look at you, you haven't done any work. Eat slowly, are you a reincarnated starving ghost?" Ming Dahai said with dissatisfaction.
“The child is hungry, why are you scolding him? Next time you go out to sea, I will cook for you in advance and bring it with you. The food on the island is fresh, but it is not clean, so don’t get an upset stomach.”
"Second Uncle eats like a pig," Ming Lei chuckled, occasionally imitating a pig's squeal.
It made everyone laugh.
After finishing her meal, Sun Yunmei was still looking at the pile of beehives.
"Mingjing, who are these things for?"
"I don't know. I'm going to go to town and see if any big bosses are willing to buy it. The honey needs to be processed as soon as possible, otherwise it will spoil and all our work will be for nothing."
"Why don't we just go to a factory or shop that sells sweetened water and ask if they'll take it?" Mingliang was still sitting at the table, eating heartily.
Ming Dahai couldn't stand it anymore and tapped Mingliang's head with his chopsticks. "Your brain is definitely not as good as your sister's. What if you run into someone you know in the city and they leak the secret?"
What if you run into a bad person who tries to trick you into lowering the price?
"His brain is all mush, all he knows is eating."
Ming Dahai now looks down on his son and thinks his daughter is better.
Mingjing nodded, "Dad, you understand me best. I'll go to town now and ask around, and sell the barnacles while I'm at it. We'll go collect ground crickets tomorrow."
"Sister, I want to go too!" Mingyue exclaimed.
Then Minglei also clamored to go.
"Don't go there. There are too many people and too many eyes. Just clean the dirt off the honey when you have time, and you can sell it for a higher price."
Ming Dahai was satisfied. Although he was the father, Ming Jing was now like the eldest in the family, and it was only right that she had to agree to everything.
He used to feel uncomfortable with Mingjing, who was always causing trouble and was better off staying away. But now he doesn't think that way anymore.
To achieve great things, one must endure hardship and toil. It seems that what they went through before was a test for them, and now they have finally made it through.
Better days are yet to come.
Mingjing got up, found an empty can of yellow peaches, filled it with honeycomb and honey, put it in a small cloth bag, and carried it on her back.
Ming Dahai tied the sack shut and tossed it onto the tricycle.
"Call me if anything happens, and be careful."
Mingjing drove his tricycle to town with the headlights on.
“Mingjing is really something now. We don’t have to worry about anything at home. We are so lucky to have a daughter like her.”
“Of course, you should all learn from Mingjing,” Ming Dahai said smugly.
Mingjing drove across the bridge, taking a long detour before finally arriving at the seafood restaurant.
Dong Li and Xie Jun'an were cleaning up the tables left by the customers. There weren't many people in the shop, and they were about to close when Mingjing's electric scooter stopped at the door and honked its horn.
"Oh, Miss Ming, you're having dinner at my house so late?" Xie Jun'an teased.
Is Uncle Dong home?
When Xie Jun'an heard that he was going to find his father, he turned and went to the kitchen. A little while later, Dong Li came over.
"Uncle Dong," Mingjing said, getting out of the car and taking out the car keys.
"Mingjing, you've caught something good again?"
Mingjing smiled and walked into the house, taking out a canned food jar from her bag and handing it to Dong Li. "Uncle Dong, is this valuable?"
Dong Li took the bottle, examined it carefully, and frowned. "What is this?"
"Wild honey, I saw it while I was beachcombing today."
"Wow, this is something good! It has a beehive?"
"Hmm, they're all at home. Are they worth anything now?"
Dong Li unscrewed the jar and smelled it. It was indeed different from farmed honey. Hearing that it was honey, Xie Junan also became curious. He had only seen it a few times on the ship.
This is something only rich people can afford; poor people like them can't afford it.
"Where did you get it?" Dong Li asked naturally.
He had been to the surrounding villages, towns, islands, and even went out to sea, but he had never seen this thing before.
The next second, Xie Junan quickly changed the subject, half-jokingly saying, "I've seen this on the ship before. Wild ones are rare. Dad, do you think those big bosses want it?"
After saying that, he raised an eyebrow at Mingjing.
Mingjing looked away at Dong Li and chuckled, "Uncle Dong, if those big bosses don't want it, I don't have any connections, and I don't want to sell it in Xianlin either."
Dong Li chuckled, naturally understanding what Mingjing meant. If those big bosses knew about this thing, they would dig three feet into the ground by the sea to find it.
However, the fact that Mingjing was willing to ask him about such an important matter shows that their relationship has reached a level of trust, and he cannot betray that trust.
“If I’m not in this city, I don’t have many options.”
A hint of disappointment flashed in Mingjing's eyes. She took the honey and said, "Never mind then, I'll think of another way."
As she turned to leave, Xie Jun'an's eyes lit up and he said, "Why don't you go find my aunt? Her fruit business is huge in Dongguan. People there love sweets, so maybe she can get in touch with you."
