Mingjing smiled and whispered to him, "Uncle Wang, don't make a fuss. I'll treat you to dinner when we get back."
If those bandits knew she'd caught so much cargo, they'd eat her alive.
“It’s not about whether we eat or not. If there are any good things like this in the future, think of me. Song Laosan sold those things in town for several thousand yuan. You have to let me make some money too.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Mingyue came up carrying a cage full of palm-sized crabs and two-pound groupers.
"Oh my god, this is truly thanks to the Sea Goddess! How come I didn't get hit that day? Where did you put the cage?"
Mingjing pointed to the rocky spot, "Right there."
"Mingjing, I can keep this a secret for you, but you have to take me with you from now on."
Mingjing gritted her teeth and said, "Fine! Uncle Wang, I still have some cages that I haven't brought up yet, can you help me find them?"
"What? There are more? How many do you have?" Old Wang said, his teeth itching with envy.
"Three more!"
Old Wang almost lost his balance. They had been wandering around for hours and only managed to pick up a tiny bit of stuff, not even enough to fill a tooth gap. Mingjing was trying to put the entire ocean into an octagonal cage.
"Mingjing!" Ming Dahai waved to the crowd from the shore.
"Dad, get down."
Mingjing stood on the mudflats and waved, signaling Minghai to come down.
The embankment wasn't high; the flatbed cart could be lifted down by its rear wheels. As dawn broke, the path beneath our feet became clearer.
"What is that?" Ming Dahai peeked inside and lowered his voice, "Such a big abalone?"
"Brother, your family's struck it rich this time. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. Take me with you next time," Old Wang said, his teeth practically chattering with envy.
Ming Dahai couldn't hide his smile and nodded repeatedly.
"Alright, Uncle Wang, come back with me to find the cage. Mom and Dad, you two load the things into the car, one of you stay and watch over it, the rest of you come with me to find the cage."
“Mingliang, come with me to look in the pile of rocks over there. Mingyue, go to the mangrove forest over there and get my cage. Tie it to a tree; that should make things easier.”
After giving his instructions, Ming Dahai told Sun Yunmei to stay behind, while he went into the water with Mingyue to the mangrove forest.
A short while later, Ming Dahai came up carrying a cage, his eyes practically closed with laughter. Inside were swimming crabs and a Boston lobster.
Boston lobsters are large, each weighing seven or eight pounds.
Mingjing figured that this one would only cost a few hundred yuan, and she didn't care about it at all. She planned to keep it to make lobster noodles.
The fifth one was found by Mingyue in a puddle. Inside were a few small fish and two clams, and upon closer inspection, the net had a hole the size of a head.
It looked like it had been bitten open by some huge creature, otherwise there would definitely be a lot of stuff inside. Mingjing regretfully put it away.
On the shore, Sun Yunmei regretfully put away the fishing net that had been pulled up, but then she looked down at the bulging contents of the snakeskin bag and cheered up again.
Next, the five people searched for a long time but couldn't find the sixth cage.
"Strange, did the sixth cage get washed into the deep sea?" Mingjing asked anxiously, her hands white from being soaked in seawater.
Although it's supposed to be low tide, the waves are still quite large, occasionally surging up and creating a surge.
"Forget it, let's go back. The waves are still quite big, and we could easily be swept away. Let's just leave it."
Mingjing was unwilling to give up. What if that net contained king crabs? Wouldn't it be a shame to miss it?
Moreover, with so many people waiting on the shore to snatch up bargains, if they were to actually do so, it would be worse than death for them.
"Forget it, let's not. The waves are getting bigger and bigger. It wouldn't be good if we got swept into the sea," Ming Dahai said helplessly.
People on the shore couldn't stand the cold sea breeze, and even more so the sight of people picking up large quantities of goods on the bright mirror, so they all left.
"Let me see!"
"Forget it, let's go," Ming Dahai said, turning back.
Mingjing opened the screen and looked down at the progress bar for the Lucky Pill; it was still more than halfway done.
There should be something else, right?
Mingjing walked forward a few steps.
Um?
It looked like she had kicked a net near her feet.
Suddenly!
A blue wave rolled over while Mingjing was distracted.
Mingjing lost her footing and was swept into the waves. She took a moment to look at the seabed and, sure enough, it was her octagonal cage.
When she stood up, it seemed like she saw a fish tail.
Sea Goddess?
No, she stared intently. The waves receded, but the fish tail drew ever closer.
Just as she was about to walk over, the fish suddenly leaped out of the water and then crashed back into it.
It was moving too fast; even Mingjing couldn't see what kind of fish it was.
"Mingjing! Are you alright?!" Ming Dahai ran over and grabbed Mingjing's arm. "Aren't you coming?!"
"Dad, there's a big fish!"
"What?"
"It seems so, but why isn't the fish running away?"
Ming Dahai saw a fish fin vaguely thrashing in the water, but he couldn't see what kind of fish it was.
"I'll go take a look."
Taking advantage of the moment before the wave came, Mingjing plunged into the water and swam toward the fish. The fish seemed to be startled and turned to run away.
"Where do you think you're going!"
Seeing the fish about to escape, Mingjing pounced and caught it tightly in his arms.
The fish was docile; it didn't move much after being caught, except for its gills twitching.
Mingjing glanced down and saw that it looked like a grouper. Just as she was trying to figure out what kind of grouper it was, a big wave swept her into the seabed and then pushed her back to the surface.
"Mingjing, you've gone too far, come back!" Ming Dahai roared desperately from the shore.
"Dad, give me the snakeskin bag, I caught it!" Mingjing said, holding the fish and spitting out a mouthful of salty seawater.
"What did you catch?" Ming Dahai breathed a sigh of relief and quickly stepped forward to help Ming Jing.
"With so many people around, put it in a snakeskin bag and we'll talk about it when we get home." Mingjing took the snakeskin bag from Mingdahai and put the grouper into the bag underwater.
The snakeskin bag was too small, and the grouper's tail was sticking out. Ming Dahai was startled, wondering if it was the kind of fish he was thinking of.
Several people helped them ashore.
"What did you catch?" Mingliang asked, noticing the mysterious way the group acted.
"Hurry up and go up," Mingjing said anxiously, handing the snakeskin bag to Mingdahai. "Take this snakeskin bag home quickly, so no one sees it."
"Okay, okay," Ming Dahai said, picking up the snakeskin bag and looking at the contents inside. The contents were still moving and seemed to be quite large, weighing at least one or two hundred pounds.
Just as Ming Dahai was about to turn around and speak, he turned his head and saw Ming Jing walking towards the deep water area again.
"Mingjing, come back quickly! Danger!"
"Dad, you guys go back first. I think I know where that octagonal cage is. I'll go get it."
Ming Dahai frowned. Although he really wanted to get the thing back, the water ahead was deep, the seawater was almost waist-deep, and there were waves.
That would be troublesome if we encountered an offshore current.
Before Ming Dahai could speak, Ming Jing dove into the sea and disappeared.
"Be careful!" Ming Dahai pulled the snakeskin bag ashore, put it in the car, and stared worriedly in Mingjing's direction.
Mingjing dived into the sea. The fishing net was buried under the sand, with only half of it exposed. Mingjing pulled out the octagonal cage, shook off the sand, put it away, and swam ashore.
"Dad, we found it." Mingjing stood in the sea, holding the octagonal cage, when a wave slapped him and pushed him ashore.
