It's only almost noon now. Lin Hu usually eats lunch at the school cafeteria.
She was curious why he had suddenly returned today, but when she saw Assistant Li, whom she had met just a few days ago, at the door, she immediately understood.
She glanced at Lin Hu, whose eyes were somewhat bloodshot, and took off her apron. "Have a seat first."
He turned around and went to the kitchen to pour two glasses of water, placing them on the coffee table in front of the two people who were already sitting on the sofa.
"Mom, it can't be true, right?" Lin Hu asked, looking at Lin Jingyue sitting next to him, her voice slightly hoarse.
Lin Jingyue sensed something was off about Lin Hu's tone and knew that the child was being difficult again.
"Huhu, you can go and take a look first. After all, they are your biological parents. If... you don't like it there, you can come back and live with me."
Lin Jingyue originally wanted to say that he would come back if they bullied him, but when she caught a glimpse of Assistant Li watching from the side, she changed her mind.
"...Then how did I get here?" Lin Hu's voice became even hoarseer, secretly hoping that Lin Jingyue wouldn't say it.
He was afraid the outcome would be unacceptable to him.
“When I met you, you were just a baby. I was working at an orphanage, and every morning I would see you being left at the door.” Lin Jingyue glanced at Lin Hu but didn’t say the word “abandoned.”
"We reported it to the police later, but surveillance was not widespread at that time, and the orphanage was in a remote location, so they did not capture who brought you there."
"Later, because I hadn't had children after two years of marriage, I applied to the orphanage to adopt you," Lin Jingyue said, her voice tinged with nostalgia.
In the living room, Lin Hu stood there dumbfounded, a few fragments flashing through his mind—memories he didn't have at his age.
There's a mirror in my mind, and cracks have appeared on it, as if the truth will be revealed once the mirror breaks.
Duan Linzhou glanced at the person beside him and saw that Lin Hu's expression was strange. "What's wrong?"
Lin Hu seemed to suddenly notice Duan Linzhou's presence. "It's nothing."
Duan Linzhou didn't believe Lin Hu. "You need to tell me what's on your mind."
As expected, Lin Hu's shoulder was wrapped with the other person's hand. For some reason, he didn't want to break free, so he let him be.
Hearing this, Lin Hu breathed a sigh of relief, but the thought that if he left, Lin Jingyue would be all alone still weighed on him.
"Do you want me to leave?" Lin Hu asked.
"Hmm?" Lin Jingyue looked at "Lin Hu" in confusion, only then realizing what he was asking.
"The choice is yours; no one can make the decision for you," Lin Jingyue said with a smile, looking at Lin Hu with kind eyes.
The mirror in Lin Hu's heart shattered into pieces, and he saw that each shard contained a memory.
He clearly saw his future self go to that home, and originally planned to discuss it with his biological parents there. He stayed with Lin Jingyue and would occasionally come to visit them.
But when he arrived in Haishi, he didn't see his biological parents. Instead, he was taken directly to a party arranged by the Xiang family that evening and introduced to everyone.
But amidst the whispers around him, Lin Hu overheard them saying that the family already had a son, and that others said he was the true young master of the family.
After making inquiries, Lin Hu learned that the so-called young master was actually the biological son of the nanny who had replaced him.
He is a true young master, so what is he?
In a moment of impulsiveness, he went directly to the other party's school and got into a fight.
He wasn't in a good mood back then. When this happened, everyone else was helping the fake young master, and the accusations and insults around him made him even angrier, eventually leaving him somewhat at a loss.
Afterwards, Assistant Li came and picked him up, taking him directly back to the Xiang family home.
As soon as he entered the house, he saw his father with a dark expression. He was slapped to the ground as soon as he entered.
"You're still not convinced!" Looking at the stubborn boy on the ground staring at him with resentment, Xiang's father was so angry that he was about to go up and give him a couple more whacks.
They're not convinced! Their own son has come back, yet they're still helping human traffickers raise their son.
"You already have Xiang Xiyu, so why did you bring me back?" Lin Hu raised his hand to touch his burning cheek, his tone sarcastic, not like a sincere question, but more like contempt for the family's actions.
"We brought you back so that you could inherit the company. If you have any complaints, you wouldn't dare to vent them on Xiaoyu. Wang Ma was wrong in this matter, and I fired her. Xiaoyu doesn't know anything about these things, so why make things difficult for her?"
Mr. Xiang hadn't originally intended to say anything so harsh, but seeing Lin Hu's attitude, he immediately made his words even harsher.
"Me, making things difficult for others? You've occupied my identity for so many years and enjoyed the life I'm entitled to for so many years, so why do you say I'm making things difficult for others?!"
As Lin Hu spoke, he stood up from the ground, his voice gradually becoming louder. Finally, he stood in front of Xiang's father. He was only sixteen years old and hadn't grown tall yet, but he was quite timid.
"I will compensate you for this on Xiaoyu's behalf," Xiang's father said, handing a card to Lin Hu.
"There's a million in the card." Mr. Xiang thought Lin Hu would happily accept the card, apologize, and promise not to target Xiang Xiyu.
Lin Hu simply took the card and said, "This 1 million is what I deserve. Why should I say I'm paying it off for someone else?"
"you……"
Before his father could say anything more, Lin Hu had already put the card in his pocket and walked out, saying defiantly, "Don't worry, as long as he doesn't mess with me, I won't do anything."
Lin Hu went directly to the airport and bought a ticket back to Guizhou Province.
When Lin Jingyue returned, she saw Lin Hu playing games with Xu Yiling on the sofa.
Lin Hu didn't tell Lin Jingyue what happened there; he only said that he wasn't used to life there and wanted to come back and be with her.
