Chapter 16 The Hunt

"Well, you can discuss it with her after the update," Duan Linzhou said, turning his head away.

"Okay, I'll check the chat channel and then go to sleep. You should get some rest too," Lin Hu said, already lying back down in his original position.

Duan Linzhou's gaze lingered on his system interface, but his mind was elsewhere. It took him a long time to come back to his senses, and in the end, he still couldn't reach a conclusion.

At 2 a.m., the electronic alarm clock in the room kept beeping, waking up the two people and the dog in bed.

Since both of them needed to get up to prepare for going to the island, they set an alarm on the triangular clock on the windowsill, but they didn't expect it to wake up the puppy as well.

Lin Hu immediately took out the still-warm goat milk from the warehouse and put it to the "whimpering monster's" mouth. The little puppy whimpered and drank a few sips before gradually calming down.

Lin Hu and Duan Linzhou changed their clothes and planned to go out to collect the bomb cherries, orange smoke, and bomb pomegranates before heading to the island.

To their surprise, the three new offensive plants could not be harvested with a single click on the system interface; they had to be picked manually one by one.

With no other option, the two of them had to each hold a small nightlight while picking the fruit from the tree.

The pomegranate and orange trees were not tall, so they were left to Duan Linzhou. The cherry tree was about two stories high, and the fruit was not as big as the oranges and pomegranates, so Lin Hu could only fly among the trees.

It was too dark at night, so Lin Hu could only search slowly. It took him an hour to finish picking them, and he picked exactly 200 in total.

Duan Linzhou's pomegranate tree was only a little over two meters tall, and the fruits all hung down, so he could reach most of them with a simple reach. For the ones that were too tall, he used his special ability to condense wind blades and cut them down.

The oranges are even easier to pick. They're only two meters tall, and they look just like the tangerines people put out in front of their doors for the New Year. They're not tall, but there are so many of them.

In the end, I harvested 200 Bomb Cherries, 40 Pomegranate Bombs, and 70 Orange Smokes.

After Lin Hu and Duan Linzhou split the bill in half, they each put on their coats, had a bowl of ginger soup, and tucked a small nightlight into their pockets. Lin Hu then led Duan Linzhou away from the raft and headed towards the island.

Ten minutes later, he finally couldn't carry it anymore, so they found a big tree and stopped on a branch.

Although Lin Hu's flight speed and physical strength have improved after his superpower was enhanced, he would start to feel tired after flying non-stop for ten minutes with a 150-pound man. He needs to save some energy to deal with what comes next.

After pausing for two minutes, Lin Hu flew to the riverbank, intending to lure the mutated beasts there to Duan Linzhou's side.

Lin Hu paused in mid-air, drew his bow fully, aimed at a rhinoceros twice its usual size on the riverbank, moved the crosshair to the rhinoceros's rear, and fired.

The rhinoceros hide was very thick; the arrowhead only left a small red mark on the hide before falling to the ground.

Lin Hu had no choice but to draw his bow and release the arrow again. This time, he aimed at the rhinoceros horn, and with a bang, the arrowhead broke off the moment it touched the horn.

The rhinoceros, startled by the sudden commotion, took two steps back from the riverbank. Its large size also affected the other mutated beasts nearby, who all looked at the rhinoceros and then followed its gaze to the lake in the sky.

To mutated beasts, all unmutated creatures are delicious, and Lin Hu is now a piece of meat in their eyes.

Seeing that all the strange beasts on the riverbank were looking at him, Lin Hu pretended that his superpowers had failed and fell directly downwards. The mutated beasts immediately swarmed towards him.

As Lin Hu plummeted downwards, he grabbed a bowl of still-steaming chicken blood from the warehouse and sprinkled some out along the way to mark the mutated beasts behind him.

These level one and two mutated beasts are all unintelligent and can only blindly follow scents, so there's no fear of them getting lost.

As Lin Hu approached the tree where Duan Linzhou was standing, he suddenly turned around and flew high above a group of mutated beasts.

Before any of the mutated beasts could react, Duan Linzhou threw a pomegranate bomb into the center of the group. The pomegranate exploded the moment it hit the ground, instantly knocking down the mutated beasts that were nearby, while those further away were injured by the flying pomegranate seeds.

The events that occurred in less than two seconds also frightened the other unaffected mutated beasts, causing them to flee in the direction they had come from.

Lin Hu, who had already flown behind them, threw out a pomegranate. The two of them didn't intend to chase after the last few mutated beasts that escaped.

First, he cleaned up the battlefield, putting all the crystal cores and edible mutated meat into his backpack. Lin Hu then transferred the items directly from his backpack to the warehouse.

As the two were cleaning, the ground suddenly began to shake violently, as if something was about to burst out.

"There's something in the ground," Duan Linzhou said, pulling Lin Hu along and running towards a large tree nearby.

Because the "earthquake" was so strong, the two of them stumbled and struggled to reach the tree, and only after regaining their balance by using the tree did Lin Hu leap up to check on the situation.

Lin Hu saw something moving through the soil, creating raised muddy paths.

I initially thought it was a mutated earthworm-like beast, but the higher Lin Hu flew, the more different it became, and all the muddy paths below pointed to one place.

Finally, Lin Hu saw a huge flower, like a peony.

The petals open from time to time, revealing the large mouth at the center of the flower. Below the flower are countless vines supporting the branches, and every now and then some small branches whip around.

Below that large flower were several smaller flowers that looked the same.

They should be from the same group, or perhaps even the same family. They may not be numerous, but the fact that the large flower could spread so widely across the ground as so many vines suggests that it is of a high level.

"Duan Linzhou! I see it. It's a large, aggressive flower. Its level must be quite high. Be careful, I'll find a chance to get closer to it."

Without waiting for Duan Linzhou's reply, Lin Hu flew high into the air, hoping to find an opportunity to throw a few pomegranates for the other party to taste.
