Chapter 2 idyllic countryside

[Lin Hu: A sincere deal?]

[Cheng Yuan: A sincere transaction!]

[Linhu: Only water.]

[Cheng Yuan: How many?]

[Lin Hu: How much do you want?]

Cheng Yuan: ...

[Cheng Yuan: I opened a diamond treasure chest and got 100 ordinary iron blocks. How about I trade 80 iron blocks for 3 liters of water?]

Lin Hu didn't believe that he had only opened 100. Just hearing about diamonds and gems made him realize that they were of a higher grade than gold treasure chests. How could he have only opened 100 iron blocks, and they were ordinary ones at that?

However, Lin Hu didn't mind that the other party was lying, since he had just lied to the other party as well, and it didn't really matter how much iron he could get, so he gladly accepted the other party's suggestion.

However, in order to conceal the fact that his water purifier was high-end, Lin Hu lied and reached an installment agreement with the other party, purchasing 0.5 liters per day.

Lin Hu took out the iron block that had been automatically stored in his backpack after the transaction was completed; it was no different from normal iron.

Suddenly, Lin Hu caught a glimpse of a black dot on the sea not far away. He couldn't make it out clearly, so he asked 1097 what it was. 1097 was already excited.

[1097: Host, hurry! Go quickly! That's an island, we need to explore it quickly, otherwise the monsters on the island will awaken when it gets dark.]

"Does that mean there's no danger going to the island during the day?" Lin Hu had already set off by pointing the raft towards the island from the system's control panel.

[1097: It's not absolutely safe; some monsters appear during the day. However, most monsters that appear during the day will not attack players unprovoked.]

"Can this island be contracted?"

[1097: No, currently 99% of the islands are resource islands, and resource islands turn into monster islands at night.] 1097 added, as if knowing what Lin Hu was thinking.

[1097: Host, don't think you can conquer the island by killing all the monsters. Even if these monsters die, new ones will constantly appear to take their place. They won't stop attacking unless you kill the players invading the island.]

[1097: It's already 4 PM. Please leave the island before 6 PM.]

When the raft reached the island, Linhu discovered that it was a rocky mountain with no beach; it must have been the exposed summit of a submerged mountain.

It can't be said to be entirely a mountaintop, because when Lin Hu flew up to take a look, he found that the part of the mountain that extends out onto the sea really does resemble an island, with flat slopes and forests full of vegetation.

The island was very large, and Lin Hu dared not venture too far in, firstly because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to get back in time, and secondly because he was afraid of danger, since he didn't have offensive abilities and no weapons.

So he could only explore the vicinity of the raft. After exploring for almost two hours, seeing that it was almost six o'clock, Lin Hu quickly flew towards the raft. And a second after Lin Hu leaped into the air, a person emerged from the tree behind him.

Watching Lin Hu fly away, I started to chase after him.

...

Lin Hu flew halfway when he sensed something was wrong. He stopped, stood still, and cautiously surveyed his surroundings.

The trees were lush and green, casting dappled sunlight on the ground. The surroundings were so quiet that not even a bird could be heard, making it all the more eerie.

Perhaps because of his special ability, he was exceptionally sensitive to sound; a gentle breeze stirred a strand of hair that fell across his forehead.

"Who?! Come out!"

Lin Hu shouted at a thick tree, his brows furrowed and his eyes wide with fear; in fact, he was so scared that his hands were trembling.

What he fears most is supernatural phenomena and supernatural beings, and only secondarily, he fears filth.

The person behind the tree clearly hadn't expected the other party to notice them, and paused for two seconds before turning around and walking away.

“I mean no harm,” the man said in a deep voice, raising his hands to indicate that he meant no harm.

A man wearing a black turtleneck sweater, with black hair and black eyes, was from China. He looked like a male celebrity, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs. Lin Hu was a little envious; what he lacked most was those two centimeters of height.

Lin Hu put his hands behind his back and quietly took out the axe that was initially configured in the system from his backpack.

"Who are you? Why are you here?" Lin Hu asked, frowning. He had learned from 1097 that there was a protective barrier in the early stages of this survival game, so players would not meet. So what was this person?

"My name is Duan Linzhou, and I've been here since I opened my eyes." He still held his hand up, trying to make the other person relax.

He was also puzzled, because he had experienced it once before, and the situation in his previous life was clearly different from now.

"Duan Linzhou?" Lin Hu felt the name sounded familiar, muttered it to himself, but didn't think much of it. But 1097 wouldn't have it.

[1097: Host! Host! Host! He's the male lead! Quickly get on his good side and infiltrate his ranks.]

"Where did you come to the island from? Is your raft nearby too?" Lin Hu asked again, ignoring 1097.

"I don't know, I woke up on this island this morning," Duan Linzhou said.

[Lin Hu: Has the male lead gone mad?]

1097: ...

"So what are your plans now?" Lin Hu asked, still carrying the weapon on his back.

"My system keeps telling me to leave the island and go back to the raft, but I don't have a raft," Duan Linzhou explained, his voice still calm and even.

"If possible, could you take me in for a while? I can pay you crystal cores as rent, and I'll also help with chores during that time." As Duan Linzhou spoke, white light emanated from his palm, and several crystal-like gems appeared in the man's hand.

Although he could stay on the island, there were too many mutated beasts at night. The tree he had just hidden in might have been a mutated beast, and the ground beneath his feet might have burrowed out earthworms as big as anacondas.

If he stayed on the island, he would have nowhere to hide, and he couldn't possibly kill mutated beasts day and night.
