It's been a very, very long time since I've dreamt of my past lives. Or rather, it's been over ten years, and this is the first time.
Actually, talking about past lives isn't very accurate.
She rarely thinks about her first life anymore, nor does she dream about it. Most of the time, she can't even remember it. It's as if it never existed.
Only when I think of it occasionally does it become incredibly clear. It's like something locked away; when it's not unlocked, I remember nothing. But when it's unlocked, I can describe every single detail.
She dreamt of her past life that night.
Her father was a high-ranking official. Her mother was a geological surveyor.
I've traveled all over the world.
She lacked companionship from a young age because one of her parents was too busy with his official post, and the other was often away from home. Also, because her parents were both nearly forty when she was born, her grandparents had already passed away.
She lived in a luxurious house with her nannies and other caregivers. She had cats and dogs for company, and her mother would send her all sorts of unusual things every time.
It was filled with learning and curiosity during my teenage years.
Actually, I don't feel unhappy. This is how life is lived.
The nanny is very nice.
The teachers and tutors are also good.
The main reason is that she is different from other children; she has too many past memories in her heart, and those memories haven't yet been separated from her past life. Therefore, she is quite content with this environment. She needs quiet and time.
Later, her parents felt they owed her a lot, so they treated her even better.
Needless to say, she never lacked money. She was an only child, and everything belonged to her.
Luxury cars, watches, and jewelry—whether you like them or not, you'll find a ton of them.
Her father was particularly pleased that she wasn't like other rich kids who spent their days racing cars, going to bars, and throwing parties. So he doted on her even more.
She loved painting, so she found a top-notch teacher to instruct her.
He was interested in magic and sought out a renowned master in China to teach him.
There's also the guqin (a seven-stringed zither) and chess.
Her mother always said that she was a lady from a prominent family in ancient times.
But she also enjoys horseback riding and horse racing. She has even won awards for it.
She also loves adventure, often with her mother.
She even followed in her mother's footsteps. She had actually wondered if this family, which was separated for so long, would eventually fall apart.
Perhaps, given that the father's official position basically forbids divorce, will they remain estranged in name only?
But no, I didn't see my parents much throughout the year, but we still have a bond.
She lived a carefree life in modern times for over thirty years.
Yes, only a little over thirty years.
The previous year, her father passed away from late-stage liver cancer.
Six months later, her mother also died in a car accident.
Six months later, she was stranded in a deserted area of East Africa.
She wasn't particularly saddened before her death. Her connection to this world was already quite weak.
After her parents passed away, she felt that her connection with this world was about to be severed.
Her longing still lingers from her previous life. In truth, if it weren't for her parents' selfless care and love, despite their busy schedules, she wouldn't even feel very close to them.
Sure enough, now that it's time to leave, it feels justified.
She didn't actually starve to death.
Instead, she had lost too much blood from her injured leg. She felt cold all over. Her vision went black.
Before she died, she saw a bird.
The bird with fiery red tail feathers was blurry in her vision, so she couldn't make out what kind of bird it was. She just thought, "It's so beautiful."
Then, she returned to the city where she was born.
Looking at her relatives and friends who held a funeral for her, it's clear that her remains may never be found.
She thought this was for the best.
There's nothing to miss.
Then she wandered around, seeing the world, a world that was sometimes dirty, sometimes interesting, sometimes warm, and sometimes boring.
I don't know how long I watched, but I was finally reborn as a human.
When I opened my eyes, the wild geese had already flown south.
When Yan Nangui woke up, the emperor was still asleep, so she poked his chin and said, "Wake up."
"Huh? What's wrong?" Shu Chengfeng didn't want to open his eyes.
"I was dreaming! You just kept sleeping and even said you cared about me! I was terrified!"
"Hmm? What did you dream about?" Shu Chengfeng asked, putting his arm around her.
"Snake! I dreamt of a giant snake that was going to eat me, I was so scared, waaaaah!" Yan Nangui started to pretend.
Shu Chengfeng patted her back, a little confused: "Don't be afraid, it's fake, there's no snake."
After coaxing her for a while, Yan Nangui started to feel sleepy again. It's the middle of the night, what else can she do if she's not sleepy?
Suddenly, Shu Chengfeng sat up and asked, "Yunji?"
After calling three times, Huang Bai at the door hurriedly said, "This servant will go and call Eunuch Yun right away."
Yun Ji was sleeping. Eunuch Yun was more tired than anyone else. He wiped his face and called out through the window, "Your Majesty?"
Is Hui Lingyi born in the Year of the Snake?
Yun Ji was taken aback: "It seems so..."
"Go and tell her she doesn't need to go," Shu Chengfeng said.
"Wait, wait!" Yan Nangui hurriedly sat up. "If I hadn't gone to deliver such a message in the middle of the night, wouldn't she have been terrified? I was just dreaming. Are you that superstitious?"
She was actually a little guilty; Ren Huilingyi hadn't done anything... Wasn't this just setting someone up?
"Alright, alright, if anything goes wrong with me later, just send her back even if you go. She hasn't done anything wrong, and snakes aren't rare. Dreaming of them even means you'll get rich. Give me some money tomorrow, and that'll be the end of it, right? Even if we don't look at Hui Lingyi, Lord Zheng needs her." Yan Nangui chuckled.
Shu Chengfeng frowned and clicked his tongue: "Alright, then so be it."
The clouds outside the window and my thoughts echoed in my mind: Your Majesty, you are truly...
Scattered.
