Chapter 19

Chapter 19

19.

"Hey!" Li Lao Er shrieked, "Guan Yue, what's your relationship with these two men?"

Zhang Laosan chuckled maliciously from behind, "Is he your man? Is that little one your child?"

"Or do you mean you enjoy supporting other women's men and their bastards?"

The two of them sang in unison, saying the most offensive things imaginable.

Cheng Lingjun, standing behind Guan Yue, was already turning pale. He held Li Guang tightly, motionless.

The foul language enraged Guan Yue, but she was also anxious. She was not sure she could handle three people alone, especially with Cheng Lingjun and the other two present. She was afraid of accidentally angering them and harming Cheng Lingjun.

Guan Yue stood steadily in front, glancing at Cheng Lingjun out of the corner of her eye. The latter wasn't actually that close to them. As long as Jin Lan and the others didn't get too close, the two of them could definitely run away without any problem.

The current situation is actually more directed at her. Cheng Lingjun is just implicated by her, which serves as an excuse to attack her. Guan Yue is very calm at this moment. The most important thing is to get Cheng Lingjun and the other person away before a fierce conflict breaks out between the two sides.

Guan Yue put one hand behind her back and kept giving instructions to leave. She believed that Cheng Lingjun was so smart that he must know what she meant.

Sure enough, Cheng Lingjun moved her foot.

Li Lao Er seemed to find this new leverage amusing. Seeing Cheng Lingjun about to leave, he hurriedly called out, "What? You think you can run away just because your lover is here? You..."

Guan Yue wouldn't let her get any closer. She stood firmly in place like a rock. Although Li Lao Er was tall, he was as thin as a bamboo pole. He usually stood behind Jin Lan, acting like a bully. Just as he was about to grab a soft persimmon, he was met with Guan Yue's gaze fixed in front of him.

When did this guy become so intimidating?

Li Lao Er's willpower, as thin as noodles, instantly crumbled. She turned around to call her companions, but Cheng Lingjun, seeing this, grabbed Li Guang and ran away.

Li Lao Er was both annoyed and embarrassed, and shouted, "Jin Lan, Zhang San! You're just going to stand by and watch!"

"Hehehe! What do you mean 'watching'? Why don't you go yourself..." Zhang Laosan glanced at Jinlan's face, "We didn't ask you to go..."

"What do you mean……"

"Stop yelling!"

Jinlan roared, and the two flies finally quieted down.

Except for the moment when Cheng Lingjun appeared and glanced at him, Jin Lan kept her eyes on Guan Yue the whole time.

Her eyes practically sparked with fury. "Guan Yue, Guan Yue, you've really changed!"

“Yes, I’ve changed,” Guan Yue said frankly. “From now on, I’m going to draw a line between us. You can walk your narrow path, and I’ll walk my broad road.”

"You think you can just leave as you please?!" Jinlan was enraged. She hadn't expected Guan Yue to dare speak to her like that. Whether it was out of pride or something else, she wouldn't let Guan Yue get rid of them so easily.

Jinlan raised her hand to snatch the rice bag from Guanyue's arms.

This was absolutely pissed off by Guan Yue. Seriously? This was touching her very core; did she think she could just take it away?

The hardships of so many days and the miserable life in this world have transformed Guan Yue from a pacifist into a fierce warrior.

Clutching her rice bag like a soldier carrying a bomb, she rammed it heavily into Jinlan and the other two, causing them to tumble into a heap.

Guan Yue clung tightly to her rice bag, pushing it with her shoulder, kicking it with her feet, and biting it with her teeth. Anyone who dared to touch what was in her arms was her mortal enemy!

Guan Yue's desperate attitude immediately intimidated the trio of hooligans.

It wasn't that the three of them couldn't beat her; it was that she fought recklessly. They just wanted to teach her a lesson, not to fight her to the death.

Could it be that Cheng Lingjun is really her lover?

At this moment, the thought that appeared in the minds of the three Jinlan members was just that—a thought.

To protect him, they were willing to risk their lives?

Is Cheng Lingjun such a bewitching vixen?

Just as the battle reached its climax, a deafening roar suddenly rang out:

"Stop!"

The four of them stopped abruptly, leaving only heavy breathing.

Guan Yue felt like her limbs weren't her own anymore, and she couldn't lift her head. Half of her body was pressing down on someone, and the other half was being pressed down by someone. Her head was buzzing, but the sound was familiar.

She thought for a long time, and it was Rui Xi.

Their tangled mess was forcibly separated. Jinlan was still able to stand and seemed to have the fewest injuries, although her hair and clothes were a mess. The other three were in even worse shape, covered in bruises, with various marks scattered on their arms and faces.

Tooth marks, marks left by fingernails, and bruises and swellings of all sizes.

Guan Yue lay directly on the ground, seemingly only able to breathe.

"Guan Yue! Guan Yue, wake up..."

Guan Yue heard several voices calling her, one of which was the most recent and urgent. She lifted her swollen eyelids and squinted to see that it was Cheng Lingjun.

Several people followed behind him; Rui Xi and a few villagers, holding farm tools, were looking at her with concern.

"..."

Guan Yue opened her mouth and said something, but her voice was too soft for Cheng Lingjun to hear. He quickly leaned down and put his ear to her lips.

"Speak slowly, speak slowly."

Guan Yue almost breathed out, "...The rice bag is heavy, help me..."

"?"

Cheng Lingjun then noticed that Guan Yue was holding a bag tightly to her chest with both arms.

He reached out and removed the rice bag, and Guan Yue finally felt less suffocated.

The rice bag was intact, and not a single grain of rice had spilled out.

Guan Yue looked at her rice bag with satisfaction, a mysterious smile on her face.

Then she fainted.

Jinlan and the others: Sure enough, she only smiled after seeing that Cheng Lingjun was alright, right? It really is true love.

Cheng Lingjun: For some reason, the way these people looked at him was a little strange.

----------------------------------------------------------

By the time Guan Yue woke up, the sun had already set behind the western mountains.

She almost jumped up as soon as she opened her eyes.

A pair of hands pressed her down, and when Guan Yue turned her head, she saw that it was Rui Xi.

"Village Chief Rui, you..." Guan Yue opened her mouth, only to find her voice hoarse and her mouth tasted bitter.

Rui Xi picked up the water bottle next to her, poured a glass of water, and fed it to Guan Yue.

After Guan Yue finished drinking, she realized that the kettle looked familiar, but not like the one from her own home; it looked like the one from Cheng Lingjun's home.

Rui Xi asked, "How are you feeling now?"

Guan Yue shook her head, "It hurts..."

My whole body aches, and my face is stinging. I guess I've been cut open, but I can move my hands and feet, so there shouldn't be any fractures.

Her clothes had been changed, and it seemed someone had cleaned her wounds. You could smell a faint herbal scent in the air without even having to sniff carefully.

Guan Yue lay on the bed, somewhat flattered, and asked, "Village Chief Rui, have you been staying at my house all this time, taking care of me?"

Rui Xi shook her head and said, "I had someone else take you home, apply medicine to your wound and change your clothes. I went to deal with Jin Lan and the other two people first. They just arrived here not long ago."

Guan Yue nodded, "Thank you so much, Village Chief, and everyone else."

Rui Xi said, "You should thank Xiao Cheng the most. We couldn't even find a kettle at your house. He helped us boil water, brew medicine, and brought it over. Everyone has gone home now, and I thought no one was home, so I came to check on you first."

“Oh, I see… I owe him again,” Guan Yue said, propping herself up on the edge of the bed with her arms. With Rui Xi’s help, she slowly sat up. “I will thank him, and thank you, Village Chief, for saving me.”

Otherwise, she would have been in grave danger.

Rui Xi said, "It was Xiao Cheng who came to find me. I can help with this little thing. Since you're alright, I'll head back now. Jin Lan and the others won't dare to come looking for you these next few days, so just focus on recovering."

Guan Yue insisted on holding onto the wall and escorted Rui Xi to the door. After Rui Xi left, the sky darkened, and the stars on the horizon drew an arc with long trails.

The moonlight, like a veil, draped down on one of the person's shoulders.

Guan Yue was taken aback. In the shadows of the corner, someone seemed to have been standing there all along. He turned around and revealed a familiar face.

"Cheng Lingjun!" Guan Yue waved with a smile.

Cheng Lingjun took a few steps closer, her brows furrowing slightly. "Why did you come out when you were injured?"

"It's nothing," Guan Yue smiled. "No serious injuries, just some minor wounds."

“It’s better to get more rest,” Cheng Lingjun paused, “You almost scared me to death.”

Guan Yue was slightly taken aback. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to fight with them..."

It was because Jinlan wanted to take the rice from her, otherwise she...

"oops!"

Guan Yue suddenly shouted, startling Cheng Lingjun.

"What's wrong? Where does it hurt?" Cheng Lingjun looked at her anxiously. "I told you not to get up..."

Guan Yue was like a seriously injured patient who had been injected with chicken blood. Suddenly, her leg pain and dizziness disappeared, and she rushed back to her room in one stride.

Cheng Lingjun rushed in after her and saw her pacing around the room. She quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

"Rice, my rice!" Guan Yue cried out in despair, "My rice!"

At this moment, Guan Yue was like a hungry ghost, her mind filled with thoughts of her beloved millet bag. Just then, a hand reached out and stopped her from looking under the bed.

Cheng Lingjun said helplessly, "I put your rice in your rice jar, don't bother looking for it."

"Oh!" Guan Yue rushed to her kitchen again and saw her full rice jar. She immediately felt the joy of the little mouse.

Hehe, my rice.

Cheng Lingjun looked at her, who seemed to want to merge with her rice, and felt both amused and pitiful. She was truly obsessed.

"Otherwise, you can sleep with your rice jar," Cheng Lingjun said.

“It’s not impossible,” Guan Yue said, basking in the afterglow.
