Chapter 2

Chapter 2

2.

Guan Yue was seeing stars after being beaten—probably from hunger, of course. It turned out they were a group of female hooligans, and she was one of them.

Jinlan felt as if her subordinates had turned into noodles again, limp and sliding down.

Guan Yue plopped back down in her seat and saw that the door to the opposite house seemed to be open a little. They must have heard what was going on. It was quite an eye-opener to find female hooligans in ancient times. Weren't women treated more harshly in ancient times?

Guan Yue was only slightly surprised for a moment before she quickly fell back into that half-dead state.

Jinlan and the other two exchanged glances, only then realizing that their former companions had become like this. Could it be that they had fallen ill?

The tall, thin woman—Li Lao Er—whispered, "Third brother, do you think he might have caught some kind of disease?"

Zhang Laosan gasped, "No, no way, he was perfectly fine just a few days ago, and I haven't heard of anyone in the village getting sick, this......"

The two women looked at Boss Jin. Jin Lan pursed her lips, kicked the lump of flesh on the ground, and said, "Hey! Aren't you hungry? Want to go eat?"

Guan Yue swayed but didn't move. If someone threw a steamed bun on the ground right now, she might pounce on it like a dog and eat it. She was so hungry; she had never been this hungry before. But she couldn't bring herself to be a hooligan and dine and dash.

Li Lao Er and Zhang Lao San looked at each other and muttered, "This doesn't seem like an illness, does it? Didn't his eyes light up just now when he heard about food? Could it be that Jin Lan beat him up and damaged his head?"

Jinlan glared at them, and they immediately shut up.

Guan Yue didn't know what they were talking about. She couldn't even hear their voices clearly anymore. In this completely unfamiliar time and space, she didn't want to think about anything but going back. Maybe it wouldn't be difficult to ask these people for some food. Maybe "her" family had some money. Maybe if she looked around, she could find a few grains of stale rice that had fallen into a corner... Maybe. But she didn't want to move. The hungrier she got, the closer she felt to home.

The women around her had left sometime earlier, but Guan Yue didn't pay any attention. She was too lazy to even go back to her room and just wanted to curl up in a corner and sleep.

It smells so good! She thinks she can smell the noodles the woman made for her.

Guan Yue opened her eyes in a daze and found a bowl of rice placed in front of her, and a clean hand placed it in front of her.

There were only a few fresh green vegetables on top, not a single piece of meat, but Guan Yue felt an unprecedented longing.

Without saying a word, she snatched the bowl and wolfed the food into her mouth.

She couldn't even taste the food, but her stomach gradually warmed up. She thought of the woman she had never called "Mom." Her mouth was full of food, but her vision blurred.

Hot tears streamed from her eyes and into the bowl, leaving her mouth with a bitter taste.

"Waaah..." Guan Yue sobbed as she stuffed her mouth full of rice, afraid that she would burst into tears if she opened her mouth.

"..."

Guan Yue saw the person in front of her take a step back. She quickly swallowed her food, grabbed the clothes on her arm and rubbed her face haphazardly before raising her head and saying, "I'm sorry, I... um, thank you so much!"

Crying uncontrollably in front of strangers was the first time Guan Yue had ever felt so embarrassed. She was also starving and ate like a starving ghost without even thanking anyone—although that was pretty much true. With food in her stomach, her mind seemed to clear up a bit... All it takes to go from ghost to human is a bowl of rice.

She looked up and first saw a pair of faded blue cloth shoes, then dark trousers hidden under a dark blue shirt. It was a man, or rather, a very gentle and refined man. He had his head down, his brows slightly furrowed, and a mole on his eyebrow. When he looked at her with a furrowed brow, Guan Yue thought of the second male lead she had seen in period dramas.

Sigh... How come the other person looks like a kind and generous young master, while she looks like a beggar dressed in shabby, yellowish-brown clothes?

Guan Yue tugged at the pickled vegetables... no, the clothes on her body, and found in vain that she couldn't make herself look any better, so she gave up, looked up and smiled, "Um... thank you for the meal."

Besides thank you, Guan Yue really couldn't say anything else, and could only awkwardly show her most sincere smile.

The man didn't speak, but raised one hand, and Guan Yue noticed that he was holding a copper kettle, which he poured into the bowl in her hand.

What a wonderful person!

Guan Yue gulped down a bowl of water, the sweet water soothing her chapped lips and parched throat. She didn't stop until she had drunk two or three bowls.

"I...I've had enough," Guan Yue said, too moved to speak. Seeing the man staring at the bowl in her hand, she realized he wanted his bowl back, so she quickly offered it to him with both hands.

"Thank you for the water..."

After Guan Yue saw that the other person had taken the bowl back, she simply nodded and turned to walk away.

"Um..." Guan Yue started to say something. Should she ask the person's name? In ancient times, wasn't it said that a drop of water in need is repaid with a spring of water? This wasn't even a drop of water...

She was about to call out to the man when she saw him head towards the house across the street. The door of that house was already half open, and a little boy was anxiously watching them from the doorpost. When he saw the man return, he waved excitedly.

It turned out to be my neighbor.

Guan Yue suddenly realized.

The old saying, "A close neighbor is worse than a distant relative," is truly true.

"Then they must have a pretty good relationship," Guan Yue thought, when she heard the child say, "Father, come back quickly! Don't let that scoundrel provoke you!"

Guan Yue... fell.

Yes, she's a female hooligan now. Even neighbors are afraid of being harassed by her.

Guan Yue hesitated for a moment before calling out to the man, but he had already pulled the child inside and locked the door.

After the person left, Guan Yue lowered her half-raised hand. She stood there like a headless fly, at a loss.

Does she still want to sunbathe?

If dying from sunbathing would allow her to return, Guan Yue would definitely continue sunbathing. But whether she could actually return to her original world, she herself had no idea. Several days had already passed; could she still go back?

Guan Yue had been deceiving herself for several days. Now that she had eaten and drunk her fill, reason seemed to have regained its advantage. Perhaps it was her adaptability and will to survive that came into play at this moment. Guan Yue still longed to go back, but she did not want to die.

She had already died once, and the despair of that death was still deeply etched in her heart; how easily... it had taken everything away.

Guan Yue looked at her palms, feeling the blood rushing through her body. The power of life overcame her. She was Guan Yue, but not the Guan Yue she used to be. She would live in this time and space with this appearance and this body.

Guan Yue's feet began to walk towards the outside of the house.

She was wearing a pair of rough hemp shoes, which weren't very comfortable to walk in, but they weren't too uncomfortable either. Her gaze seemed to be a bit higher, which Guan Yue guessed was because her body was taller. Her joints were also larger, so she was probably a stout woman, and not one with a curvy figure.

Her skin wasn't very smooth either; could it be because she was exposed to the wind and sun in the village?

Guan Yue was filled with curiosity about her new body. She felt that she was younger now, and even though she hadn't eaten for several days, she felt like she was walking with a light step.

The feeling of youth, the taste of youth.

It's much more comfortable than being confined in a steel building.

It was afternoon.

It seemed that apart from Guan Yue, who wanted to sunbathe to death, no one else was around in the village.

Guan Yue was happy to wander around. In any case, she didn't know anyone right now, and she was afraid of running into acquaintances who would greet her, but she wouldn't know what to say.

The village seemed to be of a certain size, with dozens of households at most. As you walked further out, you could see fields and woods with crops growing in them, suggesting that the harvest season was approaching. Guan Yue could barely recognize the yellowish plants as rice, but the rest were completely beyond her comprehension.

She turned into a villager, but she knew nothing about farming and was lazy. Her modern knowledge and memory were of no use at all... Maybe she should ask now if there's still a chance to become a female hooligan?

Guan Yue walked for a long time and looked around for a long time. When she arrived at the foot of a tall locust tree, she saw a stone standing below with several characters carved on it. The characters were round and powerful, and the three characters "Da Huai Village" stood out. The characters were also painted with red paint. There was also a person's name in the lower right corner. Guan Yue looked at it for a long time before she recognized the characters "Liu Qingyi".

Although the font here is not quite the same as modern fonts, you can still make out some differences if you look closely. At least she is not illiterate. Guan Yue breathed a slight sigh of relief. However, "Liu Qingyi" seems to be a woman's name. Could she be a female calligrapher?

Guan Yue didn't think too much about it. She heard the sound of water and walked another hundred or two meters forward. She saw a small river. The current was not fast, but it looked quite clear. Guan Yue had an idea. She squatted down on the riverbank and looked at her current appearance.

The water was like a mirror, reflecting her face in the sunlight. She had a long oval face, thick but slightly messy eyebrows, and her hair seemed to have been cut short, but it was still tied into a bun at the back of her head. In contrast to her black hair and eyebrows, her eyes were a light brown color, which had an inorganic glass-like appearance under the light. These eyes looked exactly the same as before she transmigrated, which added a sense of familiarity to Guan Yue.

Her lips are too thin, which makes her look a bit cold-hearted, but her nose is well-shaped, straight and delicate, which is probably the most feminine feature of her.

Guan Yue thought the face was alright, but it had more heroic spirit than femininity. It wasn't entirely due to the facial features, but rather the overall temperament that came together. For a moment, Guan Yue even thought that she might be some kind of down-and-out wandering knight-errant.

...It's such a waste for her to be a female hooligan.

Guan Yue then thought again that with her looks, she probably wouldn't be popular in ancient times. Maybe becoming a female hooligan would be the best way out.
