Chapter 5
The woman arrived riding a flying sword, her long, ink-black hair dancing in the wind, ethereal as a fairy. Her brows revealed a hint of aloofness and coldness, and her long blue dress accentuated her cool beauty without being ostentatious.
Wen Wan was instantly captivated by her; this person was just as beautiful as her mother!
She shook her head, quickly shifting her attention, afraid that she would get a nosebleed the next second and lose face in front of the fairy sister.
The beauties of this era! They need no makeup to be as beautiful as celestial beings. With her beautiful mother's genes, she's sure to grow into a great beauty herself!!
When they came to their senses, they saw that the other party had landed lightly on the flying sword, and the light blue flying sword under their feet had disappeared instantly.
Why is it a little baby? And a bit slow-witted?
Mo Qingyin calmly withdrew her gaze. Although she had doubts, she did not ask any further questions: "So you are the young friend who came with the Soul-Summoning Bell?"
The guard only said that someone had come with the master's token. After confirming that the token was correct, she asked for directions and left without waiting for the other person to finish speaking.
At this moment, Wen Wan was unaware that she had been labeled as a little fool. She only felt that the fairy sister's voice was similar to her own, clear and noble, like a high and mighty fairy.
"Yes, fairy sister."
Seeing the pretty older sister talking to her, Wenwan hurriedly replied.
"Come with me first." Mo Qingyin nodded to her, without questioning the origin of the token.
Before his master went into seclusion, he mentioned that if anyone came with the Soul-Summoning Bell, no matter who they were, he should protect them and provide them with the greatest assistance within his power.
This shows that this person is very important to the master.
Mo Qingyin returned the Soul-Summoning Bell to her and told her to keep it safe: "Please keep the Soul-Summoning Bell safe. My master is currently in seclusion. I have already sent a message to her. I will take you back to settle in first."
On the flying sword, Wen Wan hugged the fairy sister's leg, excitedly looking down at the mountain peaks against the wind.
She had never flown this high, not even when she was fighting zombies in the apocalypse. The feeling of "looking down on all the mountains" was truly wonderful.
The scenery in the sky is so beautiful! The wind in the sky is so strong! The fairy's legs are so long!!
Mo Qingyin, whose leg was being clung to by the little girl, was inwardly exasperated. What could she do? This little bean sprout wasn't even as long as her legs, and she was her master's honored guest. She had no choice but to spoil her.
As soon as they arrived, Mo Qingyin quickly put her down, afraid that the other junior brothers and sisters would see this scene and damage her image. After all, she was the number one female disciple under her master and the senior sister in everyone's eyes. What would it look like if a child hugged her leg?
"Senior Sister, who is she?" a naive voice rang out from behind.
Wenwan turned around curiously and saw a little girl who looked about eight or nine years old. She was wearing a white silk dress and a floral headband with two small bells hanging from it, which jingled with every step she took.
Their eyes met, and although the other person looked innocent, she had a bad feeling about them. Wenwan's keen intuition told her that the other person harbored great hostility towards her!
"Junior Sister." Mo Qingyin greeted the little girl and was about to introduce Wen Wan when she realized that the two had not yet met, so she introduced herself first.
"Greetings, young friend. I am Mo Qingyin, a disciple personally taught by the head of the Huashan Sect. Everyone calls me Senior Sister. This is Liu Ruotong, our youngest junior sister in the Huashan Sect. If you join the Huashan Sect in the future, she will be your senior sister."
After she finished speaking, Wenwan felt that the other person's hostility towards her had intensified, and they were staring straight at her.
Wen Wan smiled and didn't take it to heart. It was just children vying for attention; she didn't need it. "Hello, my name is Wen Wan. I just came up the mountain today."
Liu Ruotong reverted to her innocent and naive demeanor, clapping her hands with a beaming smile: "Hello, Wenwan sister! I'm so glad you've come to the Huashan Sect. Now Ruotong will have another companion when she goes out to play!"
Seeing this, Mo Qingyin breathed a sigh of relief. The other junior brothers and sisters wouldn't mind Wen Wan joining, but Ruotong was still young. She was worried that the junior sister would ostracize this even younger child to share everyone's affection for her. It seemed that she had worried too much.
"Junior Sister, I still have some matters to attend to. Wenwan is new here, could you show her around and help her get acquainted with the place?"
"Don't worry, Senior Sister, leave it to me," Liu Ruotong assured, patting her chest.
Wen Wan had no objection.
Once she confirmed that Mo Qingyin had gone far away, Liu Ruotong's expression changed drastically. Her voice, which had been obedient just moments before, turned cold as she looked at her and said, "Wen Wan, is that right? You'd better be sensible. I am the most beloved junior sister of the Huashan Sect. Don't try to compete with me."
Wen Wan: ...This change of expression is too fast!
Before she could say anything, the other person flicked their fingertips, silently chanted an incantation, and a domineering burst of true energy swept over, directly binding her to a nearby pillar.
"Sister Ruotong, what do you mean by this?"
Wen Wan tilted her head, looking at her calmly with a puzzled expression.
Unexpectedly, there was no screaming or crying, nor any begging for mercy.
Liu Ruotong frowned, displeased: "Hmph, you should just stay here and reflect on your actions, so you won't try anything funny again."
Wen Wan: ??? What kind of crazy ideas is she having!
"Also, don't even think about complaining. Senior Sister is too kind to punish me, and the other senior brothers and sisters will plead for me. Just stay here and sunbathe. The spell will be lifted in an hour."
The thought of Wen Wan riding on her senior sister's flying sword and clinging to her leg made Liu Ruotong feel a surge of resentment. She hadn't even ridden on her senior sister's flying sword yet, so why should she?
Watching the other girl's angry departure, Wen Wan felt somewhat helpless. At such a young age, she was already so spoiled and arrogant; she'd only go astray sooner or later. Besides, did she really look like someone easy to bully?
In the sweltering heat of summer, with the sun blazing down like fire, she's supposed to be tied up here and exposed to the sun for two hours?
Just as she was about to summon the Black Lotus to get out of her predicament, a person appeared beside her and chanted a spell to untie her.
Why is it called "untying"? Probably because the other party's spiritual power was lower than Liu Ruotong's, and it took three or four spells to completely untie her.
"Are you alright?" the girl who untied her asked with concern.
Wen Wan shook her head and sincerely thanked her, "I'm fine, thank you!"
The other person looked to be about the same age as Liu Ruotong. She was wearing a fitted dress and had her ponytail high. Despite her young age, she had a rather dashing and heroic air about her.
"Did you come up the mountain today to become a disciple?"
Wen Wan nodded and then shook her head. Chu Yun told her to come and find the head of the Huashan Sect, who would tell her how to cultivate. As for becoming his disciple? That would have to wait until the two of them met. Whether she was willing to become his disciple and whether the other party was willing to accept her were other matters.
"My name is Liu Qingqing. Would you like me to show you around and help you get acquainted with the place?" Seeing that she only had a vague understanding, Liu Qingqing didn't press further.
Wen Wan nodded: "Then I'll have to trouble you."
"You're welcome." Liu Qingqing said cheerfully, seemingly happy to show her around.
"Sister Qingqing." After a pause, Wen Wan asked, "You're older than me, can I call you Sister Qingqing?"
"Of course, Wenwan, little sister." Liu Qingqing didn't mind at all, and smiled at her with her eyes crinkling.
Wen Wan felt that Liu Qingqing and Liu Ruotong looked somewhat similar, but they gave off completely different vibes.
If Liu Ruotong gave her the feeling of a young but scheming "green tea" girl, then Liu Qingqing gave her the feeling of a caring older sister next door, someone who was very comfortable to be around and felt like a gentle breeze.
"Sister Qingqing, what is your relationship with Liu Ruotong?" Wen Wan couldn't help but ask.
Upon hearing this, Liu Qingqing's smile faded, and she hadn't yet figured out how to respond. She didn't know what Wen Wan had figured out.
Wen Wan remained silent, patiently waiting for her reply.
She's still unsure whether she should become friends with this person.
Although she may not need friends, she is still lonely no matter what.
Like the days when she lost many of her companions and fought alone in the end, it was a short and unpleasant memory.
Liu Qingqing had been observing from the shadows ever since she and her senior sister landed. She wasn't sure if her senior sister had noticed them, but Liu Ruotong definitely hadn't.
After the senior sister left, the other party's gaze mainly fell on Liu Ruotong but she did not show herself. It seemed that the two had some grudges. As for herself, she had helped her casually, but she did not expect that she would find out.
Liu Qingqing sighed. Although she didn't intend to hide it anymore, she still asked, unwilling to give up, "You don't seem to have introduced yourself to me yet. Did you find out because I called your name?"
"Of course not!" Wen Wan shook her little head from side to side: "I know that Sister Qingqing was behind the tree the whole time."
Liu Qingqing smiled helplessly. This little lamb was more capable than she had imagined. Perhaps she could have gotten out of the predicament without her help. It seemed that she had gone to unnecessary lengths.
"Liu Ruotong is my cousin."
They turned out to be two sisters. No wonder they looked alike and both had the surname Liu.
"Did you two have a falling out?"
Liu Qingqing gave a wry smile: "I guess so."
Although the two are cousins, they have lived together since childhood and have a deep bond, as close as sisters.
Liu Ruotong's mother died in childbirth, and her father also passed away in an accident not long after. Liu Qingqing's father, as her uncle, voluntarily took on the responsibility of raising her. The two grew up together and both of them were found to have spiritual roots.
Liu Ruotong was determined to cultivate, while Liu Qingqing felt sorry for her father and wanted to give up. But in the end, her father tearfully sold the old ox that the family had raised for more than ten years, just to raise enough money for his two daughters to pursue immortality and seek a better future.
Compared to Liu Ruotong, Liu Qingqing had lower talent, so she worked even harder, hoping to one day break through the Foundation Establishment stage and reach the Golden Core stage. Only upon reaching the Golden Core stage would the sect allow them to return home to visit their families; otherwise, they would have to wait until the once-in-a-decade day for this visit.
A year ago, Mo Xuanyue, the leader of the Huashan Sect, prepared to go into seclusion again in an attempt to break through to the Nascent Soul stage. Before going into seclusion, he planned to select a talented child from among his disciples and teach him well after he emerged.
It was this selection process that allowed Liu Qingqing to see Liu Ruotong for who she truly was.
From then on, the two became enemies.
They have become mortal enemies.
