He doesn't seem to be thinking very well.
Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda currently hold the same position, but as long as Kenji Hagiwara is in the office, the mobile unit commander will never look for Jinpei Matsuda.
The reason was simple: before these two even graduated from police academy, the CT captain who tried to recruit them was intimidated by Matsuda Jinpei's bad temper and menacing appearance. Over three years of working together only reinforced the captain's stereotype of Matsuda Jinpei—a guy whose temper was as terrifying as his abilities.
Although his superiors had spoken to Matsuda Jinpei twice, if he were to force himself to change because of other people's opinions, then he would not be Matsuda Jinpei.
Kenji Hagiwara naturally understood this principle, so whenever his superior approached him, hoping he could relay a message to Matsuda Jinpei, advising him to control his temper, Hagiwara would always smile and say the best things to his superior, showing complete respect and understanding for Matsuda Jinpei.
Although the mobile unit commander was dissatisfied with Matsuda Jinpei's temper, he was also a person who respected talent. Seeing that he could not persuade him, he stopped trying.
But everyone has a heart, and even the most impartial person will inevitably have selfish desires. Compared to the straightforward Matsuda Jinpei, Hagiwara Kenji, who is more tactful in his words and actions, is clearly more favored by his superiors.
Firstly, Kenji Hagiwara always greets you with a smile. He doesn't flatter, but he gives his superiors the respect they deserve. Secondly, he has high emotional intelligence and is quick-witted enough to understand all the deeper meanings, so his superiors don't need to be too direct.
The SWAT inspector was planning to promote Kenji Hagiwara, so he called him out of his office.
As soon as Kenji Hagiwara left, Yomi Laichuan, who had been hidden in the drawer, started whimpering and scratching at the edge of the drawer, struggling to peek out. Her claws scratched incessantly, and her short legs hopped and jumped, but she couldn't get out no matter what she did.
She turned to look at Matsuda Jinpei: "Woohoo~!"
Matsuda Jinpei twirled his pen, his gaze shifting from the document in his hand to the small head peeking out from behind Hagiwara Kenji's desk. Raikawa Yomi wagged her tail, staring expectantly at Matsuda Jinpei.
Matsuda Jinpei hadn't intended to pay much attention to her, but Yomi Raikawa's round, puppy-dog eyes kept shooting out little stars, and her pitiful yet expectant gaze made Matsuda Jinpei's hair stand on end.
He clicked his tongue, stood up, and pulled Lai Chuan Huang Quan out of the drawer.
Matsuda Jinpei held Raikawa Yomi in his hand, letting her lie face down on her back. He poked Raikawa Yomi's belly with his finger: "That Hagi guy really protects you a lot."
"Awooo! Woohoo!"
Yomi Laichuan twisted and turned in anger, then spread her little finger at the tip of her paw pad and bit Matsuda Jinpei's thumb with a loud yelp.
On the day they infiltrated the Beika Municipal Hotel, Matsuda Jinpei injured his thumbnail. Yomi Raikawa's baby teeth shouldn't normally bite painfully, but the tip of her tooth landed precisely on Matsuda Jinpei's wound. The nerves in his finger sent a signal, causing his muscles to unconsciously dodge. The writhing Yomi Raikawa thus slipped from Matsuda Jinpei's grasp and fell to the ground with a thud.
The little dumpling let out a scream when she landed on the ground. She rolled a few times, then twisted her body and made whimpering noises, clearly in pain from the fall.
Matsuda Jinpei panicked instantly, hurriedly squatting down and carefully lifting Yomi Raikawa into his arms.
Normally, Yomi Laichuan would have already bared her teeth at Jinpei Matsuda. But now she lay listlessly in Jinpei Matsuda's palm, like a wilted eggplant.
"Did you hurt yourself?" Matsuda Jinpei placed Yomi Raikawa on the table and gently stroked her paws with his fingers. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
Lai Chuan Huang Quan, like a fish that had been pulled ashore and had lost its vitality, lay on the table whimpering softly, looking extremely aggrieved.
"Does it hurt?" Matsuda Jinpei gently pushed Raikawa Yomi's back with his fingers. "Should I take you to the hospital?"
Lai Chuan Huang Quan let out a "woof," swept its tail from left to right, and then fell silent again.
...
Kenji Hagiwara talked with the Superintendent General of the Mobile Unit for nearly two hours before returning to his office with a stack of documents in his hand. He opened the office door, but after pushing it halfway open, he froze on the spot as if struck by lightning.
In his office, Matsuda Jinpei was annotating a new type of bomb dismantling diagram with a black carbon pen. His brows were slightly furrowed, and his azure eyes shone brightly like twinkling stars as he focused on his work.
If you ignore the little dumpling sitting on his head wagging its tail, it would be a very pleasing sight.
Yomi Lai sat upright on Matsuda Jinpei's head, her paws hidden by her fluffy curly hair. She stuck out her tongue and kept kneading Matsuda Jinpei's head with the pads of her front paws, mimicking a cat kneading.
Not only that, but Yomi Raikawa used her claws to pull out two small tufts from Matsuda Jinpei's already fluffy curly hair, which stood up crookedly on his head.
This was the first time in his life that Kenji Hagiwara had seen Jinpei Matsuda with twin tails, although the twin tails were not quite standard, and even excessively comical.
The scene before him was too shocking. After a brief silence, Kenji Hagiwara took out his phone and pointed it at Jinpei Matsuda while still holding the door open.
"Snap—"
The flash went off, and another embarrassing photo of a childhood friend was added to Kenji Hagiwara's phone album. The man focused on documents and the dog intently pulling at its pigtails in the office were finally distracted, both turning their heads to look at the door.
Matsuda Jinpei's expression darkened: "What are you doing?"
Kenji Hagiwara closed the door behind him with his back hand, unable to suppress a laugh: "Jinpei, what are you guys doing?" He threw the documents on the table, pulled out a chair and sat down: "You actually tolerate a soft bread sitting on your head, is there something I don't know about?"
—Of course, it's because they made a mistake and knew they were in the wrong that they tolerated Lai Chuan Huang Quan running wild over them.
But Matsuda Jinpei simply paused his writing and pursed his lips: "Nothing happened."
Just kidding, if Kenji Hagiwara knew that Yomi Rikawa had been thrown to the ground by him and was writhing in pain, Kenji Hagiwara would probably disregard their childhood friendship and beat him up.
Hagiwara has always been deeply in love with Yomi Yorikawa. During the three years Yomi Yorikawa was away, she intermittently regained her memories, and Hagiwara Kenji regarded Yomi Yorikawa as his only and most precious treasure.
You'd definitely get beaten up; it's the kind of danger where you need to keep both eyes on guard while you sleep to avoid being assassinated.
Kenji Hagiwara gave Jinpei Matsuda a meaningful look, but didn't expose him. Although he didn't know what had happened, Jinpei Matsuda was really bad at hiding his guilty feelings—and he rarely felt guilty.
Kenji Hagiwara guessed that Jinpei Matsuda must have bullied Yomi Yorikawa again. But seeing the little dumpling's cheerful expression, it probably wasn't a big deal, at least Yomi Yorikawa had already let it go. So Kenji Hagiwara shrugged, not intending to delve into the secret.
Kenji Hagiwara stood up and held out his hand to Yomi Raikawa: "Soft bread, come here?"
Yomi Laichuan wagged its tail and climbed into Kenji Hagiwara's palm, stepping on Jinpei Matsuda's head.
With the weight on his head gone, Matsuda Jinpei's scalp was left with a dent from the baby's pressure. He held the pen between his knuckles and raised his hand to ruffle the mess that Raikawa Yomi had made of his black hair.
Kenji Hagiwara hugged Yomi Raikawa, rubbing his face against her little head while repeatedly saying "Good girl, good girl." During this time, Jinpei Matsuda kept a close eye on Yomi Raikawa, afraid she might cry out in pain. Fortunately, Yomi Raikawa had only hurt herself in the fall and hadn't broken any bones; she was now back to her energetic self, able to jump and play again.
Seeing that Yomi Yorikawa did not show any discomfort, Matsuda Jinpei secretly breathed a sigh of relief, withdrew his gaze, and focused on the documents in his hands again.
On the other side, Kenji Hagiwara placed Yomi on his shoulder, intending for her to doze off on his shoulder like he had before he left. But Yomi gently wagged her tail and looked up longingly at the top of Kenji Hagiwara's head...
Kenji Hagiwara raised an eyebrow: "Hmm? Soft bread, are you trying to take advantage of me?"
He didn't seem to mind too much.
On Valentine's Day, Kenji Hagiwara even let Yomi Rikawa ride on his shoulders.
Upon hearing this, Lai Chuan Huang Quan wagged his tail even more vigorously, his big, watery eyes shooting out little stars.
"Alright, but this is a one-time thing."
Kenji Hagiwara smiled and lifted Yomi Rikawa onto his head.
The feeling of being pampered and favored made Raikawa Yomi so excited that she wagged her tail like a propeller. She lay on top of Hagiwara Kenji's head, rubbing her face against him, almost rolling around on the spot.
"Are you holding on tight? I'm going to let go now."
"Aww~!"
Having received permission, Kenji Hagiwara slowly released his grip. Yomi Laichuan lay steadily on top of Kenji Hagiwara's head, like a cute and quirky pet accessory from a game.
Both times, when Yomi Raikawa steps on Jinhei Matsuda's head, she looks like a haughty queen stepping on a reluctant knight. But when she's on Kenji Hagiwara's head, she's as docile as an adorable little cutie.
Matsuda Jinpei scoffed coldly and withdrew his scrutinizing gaze in displeasure.
After Lai Chuan Huang Quan turned into a little dumpling, he was just like a puppy that was less than a month old. He was so light that he was practically floating on his head, and he was even lighter than a riot helmet.
So, both Matsuda Jinpei and Hagiwara Kenji, after focusing their attention on their work, naturally forgot about the creature above them for the time being.
As the saying goes, fortune changes every day.
Just as the clock struck a new mark, the SWAT team leader returned, clutching a document, and pushed open the office door of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
"Hagiwara, you..."
He continued pushing the door open, but stopped abruptly after uttering only a few words, freezing in place with wide eyes.
Through the reflective lenses, the mobile unit commander saw his two trusted subordinates sitting behind his desk, both turning to look at him.
but……
Can someone tell him what that fluffy white thing on Kenji Hagiwara's head is? What kind of police officer hangs a dog on their head while on duty?
Even though the SWAT team leader was used to all sorts of things, he still felt his mind go blank the moment he pushed open the door. His Adam's apple bobbed, and he pulled out his phone.
"Snap—"
He then slowly closed the office door and left as if he hadn't seen anything.
As he turned to leave, the mobile unit commander had mixed feelings.
Kenji Hagiwara's promotion should perhaps be put on hold for now.
Although this kid has a good personality, superb skills, is one of the two aces of the mobile team, and is also a professional.
But he seems to...
My brain isn't working very well.
