Chapter 12 Survival of the Brave
The crocodile herd began to break through the safe distance set by the team. Those on the outermost edge could see the long, sharp teeth clearly. One crocodile fell down, and soon a second one followed.
Several people around Rong Yi ran out of ammunition and quickly replenished their bullets, which gave Crocodile the opportunity to break through.
When they finished reloading, they saw the crocodile's wide-open mouth and its stench was right next to them. Even if they raised their guns to fire, they would not be able to avoid being bitten!
As their adrenaline surged, the crocodiles' eyes suddenly burst open one after another, their massive bodies collapsing into the water without even closing their mouths.
The splashing water hit their legs, and a crocodile's upper jaw even brushed against one of their trouser legs, making it an extremely dangerous situation.
Rong Yi, who had saved their lives, remained calm and continued firing. Only then did they realize that every bullet she fired accurately hit the crocodile's eye, essentially killing one crocodile with each bullet.
There was no time for pleasantries or thanks given the immense kindness shown to them, and the group continued their battle.
There were too many crocodiles, and everyone's guns didn't have unlimited ammo. When someone was reloading, there would be a gap in the crocodile's attention, and it would pounce on them.
The crocodile that had bitten the man quickly retreated, while the other crocodiles stepped forward to share the spoils. With a gentle tug on the head, the living man was torn to pieces.
No matter how high Rong Yi's accuracy is, bullets will eventually run out. At this moment, someone next to him handed him a stack of boxed bullets, saying, "Your aim is much better than ours. The more you kill, the easier it will be for us to score a point."
Rong Yi glanced at it and immediately took it. Apart from the area where the heavy weapons were stationed, she was the only one in the light weapons group who could catch her breath.
Gradually, some people wanted to move forward but dared not leave the group, which inevitably led to crowding. Rong Yi stumbled as the group moved, and his bullet went astray. "Don't push!"
But those facing death couldn't hear it; they just kept pouring in.
With limited strength, she was constantly being pushed and shoved, which caused some people in the line ahead to lose their footing and fall down, like dominoes falling all the way forward.
Rong Yi gritted his teeth and squeezed out of the line; if he stayed any longer, he would definitely be crushed by the crowd behind him.
The team's rhythm was disrupted, and the crocodiles took the opportunity to rush in, their severed limbs and blood staining the murky muddy water, and screams of agony rose and fell.
Rong Yi's head was throbbing with pain, and he could no longer concentrate. He had no choice but to put away his rifle and prepare to fight hand-to-hand with his dagger.
"Boom!"
The massive impact from behind sent her tumbling into the water, even scattering the crocodiles.
Rong Yi's ears rang, and he was a little confused, not knowing what had happened. He shook his head to clear his mind and looked back to find that a gap had been blown open in the rear of the team. Human bodies and chunks of crocodile flesh flew from the air and fell all around.
What could be so powerful? It indiscriminately attacked friend and foe, causing severe damage.
“BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!”
Explosions occurred one after another in the long queue, their power not only frightening the surrounding crocodiles but also killing many people.
Rong Yi was unsure whether to run forward or stay away from the group.
Song Hang, who was at the front, gritted his teeth in anger. Those people actually used such a powerful item as the explosive bomb in the middle of a crowd. They should have just thrown it into the crocodile swarm earlier. They really had no composure. They only thought of using it when the crocodiles were right in front of them.
In such a chaotic situation, it was impossible to expect these people to remain calm. All they could do was shout to those still standing, "Keep going! If we stop and wait for the crocodiles to calm down, it will be difficult for us to leave!"
Even in peaceful societies, stampedes are difficult to resolve properly in a short period of time, let alone here.
They quickly made a decision; they ignored the fallen people and headed towards the other side.
"Don't go, help me up."
"Stop pushing! Get up now, or you'll die here!"
"Calm down!"
Fortunately, those who managed to survive in this instance were no ordinary people. Some were so strong that they managed to break free from the crowd with brute force and quickly left the chaotic place before the crocodile swarm could react.
Rong Yi also heard people crying for help as they collapsed on the road. They were piled up one on top of another, making it difficult to pull one out.
She glanced back at the group. The gap created by the unknown bomb was gone, and there were more people in the distance than she had imagined. It was unbelievable that there were so many people on the field, yet she had only encountered fewer than ten people in the previous two days.
The bombs seemed to have run out, and the crocodile herd attacked again. At this point, the people at the front of the group were still a third of the way from the other side.
There were quite a few people like Rong Yi who kept their distance from the group, and they were the first to be attacked by crocodiles.
Knowing that close combat was inevitable, Rong Yi tried to forget the pain in her head, lifted her leg and leaped up, stepping on the crocodile's upper jaw and landing on its hard back. Of course, the strength of these creatures should not be underestimated; a single swipe of their tails was enough to make her lose her balance.
Rong Yi began to accelerate, leaping and flipping in the air to use the crocodile as a floating log. Seeing this agile prey, one of the crocodiles even rolled its upper body, trying to bite her in mid-air.
Rong Yi leaped high into the air, his waist and legs taut like springs, every muscle in his body activated, and he unleashed a terrifying aura that even those around him could feel, let alone the group of wild beasts who were extremely sensitive to danger.
The dagger traced a pure black arc in the air, as if the air itself was heated by the astonishing force. The afterimage of the arc passed by, and the dagger pierced through the crocodile's armor-like scales, plunging deep into its hard skull.
The crocodile, which had stood up, was shoved into the mud by the powerful force, and a huge splash of water hit Rong Yi.
With a flick of the knife, the subordinate fell completely still, and the surrounding crocodiles quietly retreated.
Rong Yi was breathing heavily, his hands and arms trembling slightly. This time it wasn't excitement, but rather he was truly on the verge of exhaustion.
That attack had almost exhausted all her energy. She didn't collapse immediately, relying entirely on her strong willpower to hold on.
He stood up, his hands trembling, and pulled out compressed biscuits, eating five packs in a row before stopping.
The crocodile she killed with a single blow had its skull completely broken in two and its brain fragmented into pieces, though these features were not visible from the outside.
Li Huanxin witnessed this astonishing attack from not far from Rong Yi. With just a simple leap, one could feel the terrifying power it had accumulated. Not only were the crocodiles horrified by that attack, but they were as well.
She remembered Rong Yi saying it was a newcomer, but newcomers don't have that many points to unlock their talents. This means it's all her own potential, which is terrifying...
Rong Yi remained indifferent, maintaining his imposing manner and not daring to show the slightest sign of defeat. He continued running with the dagger in hand, causing the crocodiles along the way to retreat.
The stunned people around them finally came to their senses and immediately followed. However, the crocodile dared not face Rong Yi directly, and it was not polite to these people.
During the battle between humans and crocodiles, the ground suddenly shook. Seeing this, the crocodiles stopped fighting and swung their long tails to run forward.
Everyone knew that the map collapse had begun, so they disregarded the group and ran for their lives, overtaking those in front of them.
A peculiar scene suddenly appeared on the muddy pond: both people and crocodiles were running wildly towards the shore.
Rong Yi endured the throbbing pain in his head and the soreness in his muscles, his eyes fixed straight ahead.
