Chapter 197 Chaotic Dance of Gods and Demons
Before they could rest, several groups of demons arrived. After they were dealt with, the eyes that had been secretly watching them gradually disappeared.
The next morning, the morning dew dampened the tent, and the fire outside had long since gone out.
Rong Yi pulled back the curtain, and the horse inside walked out on its own, looking refreshed and neighing as it flicked its tail.
Wei Yanqing lifted the carriage, preparing to reattach the horse.
Rong Yi led her horse over, but before she had taken two steps, a murderous intent struck her. She instinctively took out her Blazing Melt and swung it away.
“Ah ...
A sharp cry rang out, and Rong Yi finally saw the appearance of the monster. It had a human body, a pair of wings spread out on both sides of its body, and feathers covering its lower body, along with a pair of bird claws.
Its face and head were covered in feathers, and it had a bird's beak, making it look like a bird-man.
Rong Yi's attack left a long black gash on her chest, and feathers fell to the ground.
"Eighth rank?"
Aside from defeating a sixth-tier Ice-Embracing Bull, Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing had never encountered a monster above the second tier before; today was the first time.
Knowing that these two were not to be trifled with, the bird-like monster flapped its wings, trying to leave. Its specialty was speed, which it often used to launch sneak attacks, and even if the sneak attack failed, it could still escape quickly.
The same thing happened this time; the sneak attack failed, and they turned and ran.
Rong Yi wouldn't let her slip away, and Wei Yanqing said from the side, "You go first, I'll follow you in a bit."
Upon hearing this, Rong Yi immediately went after them.
Wei Yanqing tidied up the carriage on the spot and then put the horse into the storage compartment for live animals.
The two demons ran one after the other. The bird demon was a little anxious. It hadn't expected to encounter such a troublesome cultivator who could fly!
The bird demon was extremely fast, and Rong Yi barely managed to keep up, constantly pulling and tugging at it.
Fortunately, the bird demon's strength is limited, and its speed will slow down once it runs out. Rong Yi's items, on the other hand, won't get tired; there's enough energy stone for everyone.
Wei Yanqing fell behind while collecting his belongings, which made him even further away from the bird demon and made it harder for him to control it.
The two chased the bird demon for two days and one night before finally catching it.
·
They caught up with the demon and defeated it, but the two of them got lost.
The surrounding area was dry and humid. Compared to the green hills and fields before, all you could see here was brown soil. There wasn't even a blade of grass, let alone a tree.
The ground was steaming hot, distorting the air.
"It seems like there's a drought here," Rong Yi guessed.
Wei Yanqing: "First, find out where there are people and ask what this place is." We need to get the address to know how to get there.
The search took very short time; we found a village in less than fifteen minutes.
It could barely be called a village, with dozens of thatched huts. What was shocking was the people who came out of them. They were definitely thin, almost skin and bones, with deep-set eyes and dull, rough, wrinkled skin.
Even in this state, these people are still preparing the altar to perform a ritual to the gods.
Rong Yi could tell it was because he had seen the incense offered at the worship ceremony in Gaoyang Town. He didn't know how it was made, but the whole incense stick was faintly golden, which was very much in line with the style of offerings to gods.
It was clear they had no strength left. After setting up their things, they couldn't do anything else but mechanically kneel down, using up the last bit of energy in their bodies to worship, their voices barely audible.
"Pray to the gods for rain."
"This place has not seen a drop of rain for two years. We pray to God for rain."
They did not speak in unison; each person organized their own prayer.
It hasn't rained for two years, no wonder this place is so dry.
only……
Rong Yi looked up, and perhaps because of her increased strength, she saw a hazy immortal standing behind the slender cloud.
The other party clearly saw what was happening here, but remained unmoved. He reached out and beckoned a ray of light from the altar.
The deity who received the orb of light showed no expression, but instead frowned and said, "So little." He glanced at the emaciated people below, then turned and flew away with an air of otherworldly grace.
Fly away?
She glanced at Wei Yanqing; clearly, her teammates were also speechless at this godlike behavior.
"How about some rain? I can sense rain in the clouds elsewhere in the sky," Wei Yanqing said, pointing to the distant sky.
Rong Yi nodded, "But we need to persuade these people first. If they keep kneeling, I doubt they'll be able to get up."
The people kneeling around the altar closed their eyes devoutly, chanting prayers for rain, but their expressions changed from initial anticipation to gradual numbness.
"Stop praying."
Upon hearing the sound, they all opened their eyes and looked over.
They were a man and a woman, dressed in ordinary clothes but their bearing was still undeniable, and it was clear at a glance that they were well-off.
These people's first reaction was fear. They couldn't think of anything other than a demon that could appear so healthy in this territory.
An elderly man with gray hair climbed to the front and said, "Sirs, our village is really on the verge of collapse. Please don't eat the young people; they're all just as thin. Eat us old folks instead."
They're treating them like monsters again.
Rong Yi said calmly, "We are not demons, we just got lost and wandered here. There's no need to worship this god; he took your offerings and left."
The kneeling people looked bewildered; long-term hunger and thirst had impaired their thinking abilities.
They took the offerings and left? Did these two see a deity?
Seeing their reaction, Rong Yi repeated, "He complained that you gave him too little, so he left." Pointing to the sky, he said, "He slipped away because it wasn't raining."
For a long time, the villagers did not react. After a while, they silently shed tears, and some turned to look at the altar with deep desolation on their faces.
"Stop crying, I can send rain if you want it." Wei Yanqing's voice, as clear as a phoenix's cry, jolted the villagers out of their grief.
He raised his hand and waved it, and clouds from all directions surged in, bringing with them moist air.
In just about ten seconds, a dark rain cloud gathered above them, and then one of the people who looked up at the sky felt a drop of water hit his face.
The second drop, the third drop, the water droplets connected in a line, gently patting onto everyone.
"It's raining...it's raining!"
“It’s rain!”
"It's raining! It's been two years! It's finally raining!"
The sweltering heat was extinguished by the torrential rain, and everyone inside ran out of the house, opening their arms wide to welcome the rain and laughing.
Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing stood in the rain, watching the villagers celebrate.
"I don't know how many areas are affected, but I'm trying my best to make it rain in the areas under my control," Wei Yanqing said, tilting his head slightly.
Rong Yi sighed softly, "These gods are really terrible. There hasn't been a single drop of rain in two years, and we're just watching it. Could it be that they simply can't control the weather?"
To be honest, immortals are not strong in their eyes; they just have special energy in their bodies, which is not the inner core of a demon or a jade spirit stone.
Wei Yanqing looked up at the sky. "It should be possible, but they just don't want to."
The villagers celebrated for a while. The old man who had previously thought the two were monsters that had eaten him dragged his tired body to them and tried to kneel down, but Wei Yanqing controlled him and he failed.
“No need to kneel,” he said.
The old man's face was wet with tears. "Thank you so much, you two sages! I know this rain was caused by you. Thank you so much!"
