Chapter 201: Dance of Gods and Demons
Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing killed a large number of demons, which made the villagers happy, but some forces were very unhappy, and the demon race was definitely one of them.
After chatting with the children, the adults called their kids back home for dinner.
The village was silent at night. There was no patrol here, so it was impossible to stop any monsters.
Now that Rong Yi and the others are here, they won't patrol anymore. The demons won't even have time to hide, let alone dare to come here to their deaths.
When Rong Yi was sleeping soundly, he felt a familiar noise and opened his eyes to see that familiar golden light.
This time, a male deity has arrived, and he looks noticeably more mature than the one from last time.
Just as he was wondering why he couldn't fall asleep, he heard Rong Yi open the door.
"Want to enter my dream again?" Rong Yi asked calmly.
"You two are indeed highly accomplished in your cultivation." The male immortal spoke much more fluently and naturally than the second-generation god. "Knowing that you two were accidentally trapped in this place, the Supreme God specially ordered me to escort you out of your territory and continue your journey."
Unable to stand by and watch what they were doing any longer, Rong Yi found these so-called immortals even stranger.
If one truly cares about the world, why would one need to say something like "send them out"? Not a single word was mentioned about how well the evil demon was killed.
Rong Yi: "Then what about the villagers here? Will they continue to live the miserable lives they were in before? Aren't you gods? Just watching them like this? At least they sincerely worship the gods."
The immortal god still says the same old thing: "Everyone has their own destiny, and this is suffering that must be endured in life."
Rong Yi glanced down at the ground, then looked up at the male immortal in the golden veil. "Why? Who decided this? Why are you qualified? Are you the embodiment of the Heavenly Dao? Why can't I sense the aura of the Heavenly Dao?"
Upon hearing this, the male immortal gave her a deep look. "You two are indeed extraordinary beings from beyond the heavens." His tone shifted slightly before becoming firm. "Every world has its own laws of operation, and generalizations cannot be made."
Wei Yanqing appeared behind Rong Yi. "I thought the meaning of the existence of gods was to reduce the suffering in the world, but these days I have seen that the difference between the lives of the so-called gods and the people outside is like an insurmountable chasm."
The immortal ignored the topic, saying, "I've come to see you two off; I wish you a safe journey."
Rong Yi took out the Blazing Melt. "We're not leaving unless you can defeat us."
The male immortal remained silent for a moment before saying, "Why bother, you two?"
"You have truly opened my eyes." Rong Yi sneered, "For your own selfish reasons, so many people have died in this area that should have been peaceful. If the imperial court had controlled the inspection of the immortal sects, this situation would never have occurred. The demons are clearly afraid of you, yet they dare to act like this in the territory of the immortals. No one would believe that this was not done with your tacit approval."
The male immortal still wore his usual immortal expression, closed his eyes, and said softly, "Everything has its own destiny."
“I know you need the faith of ordinary people, so you’re tormenting the people here to try and get more pure faith. I understand.” Rong Yi’s words were like an invisible slap in his face.
The male deity's expression finally changed. He was no longer the compassionate saintly father who cared for the world. Instead, he gave a meaningful look and slowly disappeared.
Wei Yanqing tilted his head. "They won't give up."
Rong Yi put away the Blazing Melt. "Yes, how can we let the fat meat we've been holding in our mouths for so many years fly away?"
·
As it turns out, they underestimated the influence of the gods.
The next morning, Rong Yi was awakened by a commotion. He sat up and heard the villagers crying.
What's going on? A monster has arrived?
The detection function showed no abnormal response.
Seeing Wei Yanqing, who was equally bewildered, the two went outside and saw villagers gathered together, carrying a long table. Some people were holding plates with grains, whole fish, and other food on them.
Upon seeing the familiar incense burner, the two understood that they were preparing to worship the gods.
"Is the village's sacrificial day approaching?" Rong Yi asked.
Each town had a different date for worshipping the gods. This territory originally worshipped the gods along with the towns, but after the towns moved away, they began to worship the gods on their own according to the old dates.
The villagers all looked worried, but the village chief stepped forward and said, "It's because the gods came to our dreams. We neglected our usual worship, which angered the gods. Alas!"
It was clear that the village chief was very frustrated, and the other villagers quickly got back to their tasks.
"A deity appeared in my dream?" Rong Yi thought of the male deity from last night. "What exactly did he say?"
"How could I remember that? Those were the words of a deity. I only remember that I should worship sincerely."
Rong Yi: "..."
The standards are so high, yet they don't allow us to remember what was said, only to retain an impression.
Wei Yanqing said from the side, "Then you two get busy, village chief."
Knowing that the immortal deity did not require worship, the village chief smiled and nodded, continuing to urge the villagers to get busy.
"Since they can't persuade us, they might as well continue brainwashing the people," Rong Yi said, watching the villagers busily working.
Wei Yanqing: "Otherwise, I don't think any of the immortals in this area can beat us, so we used this move first."
If they could have succeeded, why dragged it out for more than half a month? Given how much the gods value faith, they would have gotten rid of them silently long ago.
"Sigh." Rong Yi sighed, "We should get more demon bones for them to use as weapons. That way, they can put up some resistance after we leave. It's too much for us humans to be exploited like this."
She really couldn't stand it anymore.
They go out at irregular times each day. The adults are all busy, and the children come over after helping out.
“We’ve been living in peace, so why do the village chief and the others still need to perform rituals for the gods?”
These children grew up enduring great hardship, never witnessing the great deeds of the gods, only seeing the lives they lead. Their level of worship for the gods is far less than that of the adults.
Rong Yi replied instinctively, "To live a good life."
The children were even more puzzled. "We've moved on, haven't we? How come I never thought we could eat demon flesh before? Our village used to be terrified of those demons."
Aside from high-level demons, Rong Yi would exchange the flesh of lower-level demons (first or second rank) for grain seeds with the villagers; it wasn't exactly a free gift.
Rong Yi didn't say anything more. Yes, they've already achieved that, and it wasn't even thanks to the gods that they got it. Why do they still need to offer sacrifices to the gods?
When Wei Yanqing had nothing to do, he gave the children some dried meat. “They are just used to it, but you are different. I hope that one day you will be able to hunt monsters on your own, instead of being bullied all the time.”
The children carefully took the jerky, then greedily put it in their mouths and stared at them.
Rong Yi nodded in agreement, “That’s right. We need to understand one principle: the best way to survive in this world is to rely on ourselves. Mountains may crumble, and seas may dry up. Only ourselves are the most reliable. Just like how the human race was able to share the world with the demon race by cultivating themselves.”
The rise of humanity relied on all of humanity and the leadership of cultivators, not on gods judging and dividing territories.
Several children nodded blankly, thinking that what they said made a lot of sense, planting a seed in their hearts that was waiting to sprout.
After the casual chat, the ritual to worship the gods was almost finished. The children ran back to their relatives and watched as another ritual to worship the gods began. But this time it was different. Instead of silently praying for the gods to give them a good life, they thought that they must be as strong as their two older brothers and sisters.
