Chapter 21 Ultimate Summit Climb

Chapter 21 Ultimate Summit Climb

Rong Yi did not deny that she was not originally from this world, but when Shao Yuting mentioned crime, the Jingtian Tower was probably a building used to imprison criminals.

Shao Yuting didn't delve into her identity. "The Jingtian Tower is all about the survival of the fittest. In the past, women who came in were always bullied and sexually exploited by men. Then, women like me came out to fight back. Gradually, men and women at the bottom started to turn against each other. Because of this, they had to fight for resources. Only those with more resources could survive longer."

Rong Yi nodded. There are no laws or rules in places where criminals gather. If you want to live like a human being, you have to stand up for yourself. "There are so many houses here, why did you say to arrange accommodation before 11:30?"

Shao Yuting suddenly looked at her, the atmosphere was quiet and eerie, then she burst into laughter, "You really don't know anything about the Jingtian Tower, but then again, your temperament is completely different from ours, strong and confident..." As she spoke, she seemed to be lost in some kind of memory.

After a moment of silence, she came to her senses. "Inside the tower, you have to stay in your room before dawn. At dawn, something terrible happens outside. No one knows what it is because everyone who sees it dies."

Rong Yi raised an eyebrow. She was surprised to find such danger in this place, and for a moment she felt a little eager to try it out.

Shao Yuting continued, "Only one person can stay in a room. If there are two people, neither of them will survive."

Rong Yi looked at the bare doorway. "But it doesn't look very safe."

"You mean there are no doors? Don't worry, all the doors will automatically close at midnight, so you have to be settled before midnight, otherwise you won't have a chance to get in. You'll stay on my right today, and I'll arrange a better room for you tomorrow."

Shao Yuting peeked at the clock outside. "It's past 11 o'clock. That's all for today. Go next door first, just in case something unexpected happens."

Rong Yi was quite satisfied with her answer, even though she hadn't explained everything.

She conjured up three cans of fruit, two vacuum-packed sausages, and a ten-pound bag of rice out of thin air and gave them all to Shao Yuting. She simply didn't have time to cook the rice, so she thought it would be better to give them away as a gift.

Besides, she quite liked Shao Yuting.

Shao Yuting couldn't hide her astonishment as she noticed the ring in her hand. "You actually have a spatial folding ring." This is something that's priceless.

She was secretly surprised. Who was Rong Yi? He had actually been sent into the tower.

Rong Yi remained calm. "The agreed-upon payment. Keep it."

The room on the right is clearly inhabited, as it is filled with many things and is fairly clean.

Although the iron bed didn't have a mattress or anything nice, it was still made of tattered rags, and the sheets were faded from washing.

Rong Yi took out his sleeping bag, spread it out, and casually tossed out the tablet he had brought. He turned it on and saw that there was no signal, but he could still watch downloaded videos and read novels.

It was noisy outside, and it wasn't easy to ensure that every member of the camp had a place to stay overnight. Rong Yi saw several groups of people coming and going, but none of them had time to even glance at her.

The noise continued until after 11:30, when the once noisy tower fell silent. Rong Yi thought of the person who had ambushed her but was killed instead, wondering what would happen to the body.

Rong Yi sat on the edge of the bed, with only occasional sounds coming from nearby rooms, giving the impression that the tower had come to a standstill.

In the next room, Shao Yuting's confidants stared wide-eyed at the sight of the abundant food, all of which was vacuum-packed.

“Sister Ting, this is…” She pointed to the house on the right, her meaning quite clear.

Shao Yuting nodded, "She gave it to me. That person is no ordinary person; she has a spatial folding ring. She's probably a scion of some powerful family who was defeated and thrown in." This kind of thing has happened before.

"A folding ring, it seems she's at the top level. Someone saw her. She struck swiftly, without even turning her head, accurately hitting the attacker's forehead, killing him instantly." The woman who spoke had a buzz cut and a deep, centipede-like scar on her left cheek; she was Yu Man, one of Shao Yuting's confidantes.

Shao Yuting held a glass can in her hand, rubbing her thumb together incessantly. "Tomorrow I will give her a detailed introduction to the Jingtian Tower. It's normal for people in the top echelons to be completely unfamiliar with this tower." As she spoke, her eyes became even sharper. "Besides, judging from her performance, she won't stay on this floor for long. Building a good relationship with her is a good thing."

Several trusted confidants instantly understood what she meant.

"I'll handle tomorrow's affairs with Yu Man. Ting-jie, you go ahead with your work. We've already secured all the supplies."

Shao Yuting nodded in satisfaction and handed the canned food to Yu Man, saying, "Give it to the children; it's a rare treat."

Although the competition at the bottom of the tower is fierce, it is not as exaggerated as at the top. It has formed a relatively stable small society. Even though the male and female camps are opposed, they do not completely stop interacting.

Aside from children imprisoned due to collateral damage from relatives, some children were born from couples of criminals within the tower, and the children were raised together by everyone.

·

One minute before midnight, Rong Yi put down his tablet, struggling with his inner conflict.

Should we go out?

This idea was incredibly reckless, but Rong Yi had this impulse. He felt no fear at all after hearing Shao Yuting's description of how dangerous it was; on the contrary, he wanted to see just how dangerous it was.

As time ticked by, Rong Yi bit her lip and decided to stay inside. It was only the first day, and she would be going to the higher floors later. People on the lower floors only knew limited information, and perhaps she could learn more if she went upstairs.

All the clocks pointed to 0:00, and just as Shao Yuting had said, a door fell from the top and slammed to the ground.

She got up and walked to the door, pressing her ear against it to try and hear what was happening outside.

Suddenly, Rong Yi heard heavy footsteps approaching step by step, accompanied by hoarse breathing, as if they were right next to his ear.

The sound soon grew closer, seemingly passing by her hut. Judging from the noise, it was a huge creature; no wonder they say those who venture outside don't survive.

The footsteps faded away, but something else scraped across the wall, scattering pebbles with a crackling sound. Rong Yi wondered, could there be two kinds of creatures?

In the silence, a horrific scream echoed throughout the tower.

Rong Yi was slightly surprised. This place looked quite large, with countless small houses visible to the naked eye, yet there were still people without a place to stay.

The sound seemed to be a signal, and more and more people began to scream and run.

This was a massacre with no suspense. The piercing screams foreshadowed how terrifying the creatures outside were. The sounds of tearing and flesh splitting intertwined, making one want to vomit.

Of course, Rong Yi didn't feel much about it; he was just more curious about the creatures outside.

Is the management of the Jingtian Tower doing this to control and weed out excess people? Judging from Shao Yuting's tone earlier, it's not surprising that new people are being brought in. If the number of towers is limited and too many people are being brought in, it will soon put pressure on the towers. As the saying goes, too many ants can kill an elephant. Once the number of people reaches a certain level, who knows what they will do?

For those inside the tower, living even one more day is a luxury, no wonder Shao Yuting arranged accommodation so early.
