Chapter 22 Ultimate Summit Climb

Chapter 22 Ultimate Summit Climb

Rong Yi had no interest in listening to the massacre any longer and turned back into his sleeping bag.

When I woke up, the door was already open.

Several thin boys and girls stood at the door, staring at her expectantly. When they saw that she was awake, they all ran away in a swarm.

This sleeping bag is really good quality; the temperature inside is just right. I'll bring a few more when I get back to Obsidian City.

After packing her things, she immediately went outside to look at the walls.

A three-centimeter-wide scratch ran across more than a dozen small houses. Rong Yi touched the scratch, wondering how the creature had left such a mark.

"I was shocked when I first saw it, but I'm used to it now."

Shao Yuting's voice rang out, and Rong Yi turned her head to look at her. She saw that her injuries had improved a lot, but the skin around her swollen eyes was a terrible bluish-purple.

"So, in order to control the number of people, the tower's management would release some kind of creature every night to slaughter all the people who had no houses to live in."

Shao Yuting nodded, "That's right."

Rong Yi stood up. "But I'm very curious, people die every night, how come I haven't seen a single trace of blood?" With this amount of slaughter, every inch of the walls here should be soaked in blood. "Did they thoughtfully wash it clean after the massacre?"

Shao Yuting: "We can't be sure about that either. In any case, there's no blood outside every time we open the door. Even the bloodstains left from our fights disappear. So we guess that the thing not only kills and eats people, but also licks every drop of blood clean. That's the most reasonable explanation. The scum outside wouldn't waste water resources washing away the place where the criminals live."

As they walked, Shao Yuting led her around the area, and the two chatted as they went.

"You seem very hostile towards outsiders. Were you mistakenly brought in?"

Shao Yuting sneered sarcastically, "Misjudgment? There's no such thing. For the officials of the Alliance, anyone who comes in is guilty. As for whether you committed the crime... I thought you knew a lot about that, after all, even someone of your rank has come in."

Rong Yi didn't give a direct answer, "That's true. Do you even know how many floors this tower has?"

"The official statement is that there are 99 floors, but I don't have the ability to verify that. You'll have to go up there to find out."

Rong Yi nodded. "Yes, I came here on a mission. You might meet other strange people like me later, so don't be surprised."

Shao Yuting led her to the staircase; there were many staircases leading to the upper floors of the Jingtian Tower.

The staircase winds upwards, but it is not continuous. According to Shao Yuting, it is impossible to go directly from the first floor to the third floor. You must go to the second floor and find another entrance to the staircase. The staircases upstairs all have two entrances, one leading upstairs and one leading downstairs.

There is a wide stairwell in the middle, and looking up from the bottom, it leads directly outside, where you can clearly see the sky.

Shao Yuting pointed upwards, "Supplies are dropped from places like this every ten days. The higher the floor, the easier it is to get the supplies. This process of plundering floor by floor leaves very little at the bottom. Every time supplies are dropped, some people die. We made our move yesterday to seize the supplies."

"I heard that the supplies are complete, including not only food, but also medical supplies and even weapons. However, apart from food, nothing else reaches the lower levels. I also noticed that all the boxes other than black ones have been intercepted by people at higher levels."

The staircase had no obstructions, and Rong Yi looked up at the second floor and found that the entrance door was closed.

"Do I have to break down the door myself to get upstairs?"

Shao Yuting shook her head. "It can be opened directly, but the fighting on the second floor and above is much fiercer than on the first floor. It is said that there are fewer rooms the higher you go, but the higher the floor, the better the resources you can get, so the competition for houses is more intense. Before, many people from the second floor would come down to the first floor to grab houses every day. Fortunately, they didn't have any weapons. They had a big fight a while ago, so they are not as blatant as before."

Rong Yi nodded thoughtfully. "Thank you. I'm leaving today."

"Oh... um?" Shao Yuting said, "You're in quite a hurry."

She didn't think Rong Yi was courting death. He even had a gun; going up to the second floor or even the twelfth floor would be more than enough for him.

"It's quite urgent, the mission has a time limit." He said, taking out a pistol and two boxes of ammunition. "I admire you, keep these just in case."

Shao Yuting had never seen anything like this before, and she looked around in a panic, "This is too valuable... Luckily no one saw it."

Shao Yuting carefully hid the bullets and gun in her bosom, covering them with her coat.

Rong Yi had already reached the top of the stairs, grabbed the doorknob, and pulled hard, unleashing a deafening blast of music.

She glanced at the door and realized it had soundproofing properties.

After entering, she closed the door behind her. She didn't intend to waste any time here and wanted to find another entrance to go up to the third floor.

But the people who were standing near the stairs didn't think so. When they saw a woman who was dressed neatly and whose figure was obviously that of a woman, they all gathered around her.

"A newcomer on the first floor?"

"Nonsense, such clean clothes, she must be a newbie, hehe, she looks quite pretty."

"You're really bold."

"If you're not brave enough, why would you let us off so easily, hahaha!"

Rong Yi sighed. The people on the second floor were no better off than those on the first floor; they were all dressed in rags, their faces were dirty and disheveled, and their yellow teeth were disgusting.

She pulled out her pistol and quickly fired a shot near one of their feet. "I'm going upstairs. I hope you won't block my way."

Wearing masks, the group couldn't see her face clearly, but they noticed her eyes were curved, indicating that she was smiling!

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

The group apologized and scattered like birds and beasts, relieved that the bullet hadn't hit them.

Guns are really useful on lower floors, so Rong Yi simply took the gun and continued upstairs.

Once you get to the third floor, it's not much different from the second floor, except that a few people have wooden sticks in their hands, so they're not empty-handed.

At each floor she ascended, people questioned the authenticity of her gun, and she had to fire a bullet each time to advance smoothly.

The situation changed drastically when we reached the tenth floor.

As soon as the door opened, six men and women wielding iron rods instantly crouched down, entering a fighting stance.

"No one from the lower nine levels is allowed to come up. I've said this rule countless times. Get down!" the leading man shouted.

He was about to shout again when the woman with a ponytail beside him grabbed his hand and gestured for him to look at Rong Yi's right hand, which was holding a pistol.

Rong Yi didn't waste any words, casually tapping the ground with his hand, "I'm going upstairs, I hope you won't stop me."

Perhaps it was because these people belonged to a gang, but their neatness of dress was unmatched by those on the lower nine floors.

The group swallowed hard. "As long as you don't stay on this floor, you're free to do as you please."

Rong Yi took a few steps, then stopped and looked at them, startling them so much that they shrank back. "Are there guards upstairs like here?"

If that's the case, then you'll have to be more careful when opening doors from now on.

The man who had just spoken nodded hurriedly, "Yes, it's to prevent people downstairs from going up. There's very little movement between floors, so you...you need to be careful..."

Rong Yi smiled, conjured a can of fruit out of thin air, and tossed it to the group. The woman with the ponytail caught it successfully.
