Chapter 26 Ultimate Summit Climb
The competition was fiercest in the first half hour of the morning, but none of that mattered to Rong Yi. Because of her impressive record of defeating five opponents single-handedly, everyone around her knew not to mess with her. They didn't want to be easy prey for someone who could easily take on five people with her bare hands.
At dawn, the stone gate landed precisely on time.
Rong Yi lay in his sleeping bag, closed his eyes, and recalled the contents of the booklet, going over the monster's characteristics and weaknesses in his mind again and again.
Reaching the twentieth floor yielded little reward; resources were scarce, and most were of little use to her. She could only hope to exchange the monster corpses upstairs for some points, leaving the other resources to chance.
Rong Yi didn't remember when he fell asleep. When he woke up, the stone gate hadn't been raised yet, and it was quiet outside.
Rong Yi walked very lightly, standing in front of the stone gate, his hand touching the cold door.
null--!
The stone gate was impacted, and a tremor ran through Rong Yi's palm. She raised her head and looked straight ahead, as if the stone gate did not exist, and stared at the things outside.
This silent standoff lasted less than two minutes before the thing outside the door growled impatiently twice and left with heavy steps.
Rong Yi waited quietly as the stone door rose automatically, revealing some marks on the outer wall, a testament to the chaos of the previous night.
She had already packed her things; given that monsters would be released starting from the 30th floor, she needed to leave early and arrive as soon as possible.
It was quite a coincidence that I ran into another person when I reached the stairwell.
The other person was armed with a rifle, dressed in professional camouflage, with his hair standing on end like a hedgehog and a red cloth strip tied around his forehead. He was dressed very tough, but was three points shorter than Rong Yi, who was 175 cm tall.
He glanced at her expression briefly, then said with certainty, "You're also going into the instance." "Perfect timing, let's go together."
Rong Yi didn't say a word, but nodded silently.
If someone is willing to take the lead, why should she refuse?
It had only been a short while since the stone gate had been opened, and there were no guards on the 21st floor yet, so they passed through smoothly and went up.
When they reached the 25th floor, the man in front seemed fearless, casually opening the door and startling the guard behind him, who immediately raised his gun at him, but did not fire.
"Damn!" The gatekeeper sighed. "You guys went up too?" He swallowed hard when he saw the rifle in the man's hand.
"It's a good thing you didn't fire, otherwise we would have been delayed going upstairs." The man spoke with an air of arrogance.
Rong Yi pretended to be invisible, but had a somewhat subtle feeling about the man's attitude.
The gatekeeper sensed his arrogance, but the weapon in the man's hand was formidable; though the model was unclear, it was far more powerful than his pistol. "You can leave now," he said, stepping aside and muttering, seemingly genuinely puzzled, "Is the tower up making some new moves lately? Why are so many people trying to get up there?"
Rong Yi knew that he was referring to the people who were carrying out the mission.
When they reached the 26th floor, the man stopped. "My name is Geng Feng. Tell me what information you found out in the tower."
This abrupt question surprised Rong Yi, who didn't understand why he was asking it now. "I was busy climbing the stairs and didn't have any information." It was one thing for this guy to be arrogant towards the gatekeeper, but to speak to her in such a commanding tone was really annoying.
Rong Yi's nonchalant reply had a subtle sense of perfunctoriness to Geng Feng, who was very sensitive to other people's attitudes for some reason.
Rong Yi, who had been standing sideways, turned to face her directly, and the gun barrel was pointed at him as well.
Rong Yi immediately noticed his change, raised his eyelids, and said, "Believe it or not, turn the gun away now."
Because Rong Yi was wearing a mask, Geng Feng couldn't see her full expression, but he saw a firm and fearless depth in her sharp eyes. At that moment, he had a clear understanding in his mind that this woman was not afraid of his weapon, or rather, of him as a person.
The mission was about to be completed, and they were very close to the 33rd floor. They couldn't afford to make things go wrong here, but they also needed to maintain their composure. Geng Feng stared at the person for a few seconds before turning around and continuing to walk.
·
The higher you go, the smoother the passage becomes. When you reach the 29th floor, there's no one waiting there at all.
Geng Feng knew that with the increase in people like him climbing the building, the people in the tower had become accustomed to it, and the 33rd floor was right in front of them.
At this moment, he began to rehearse in his mind how to deal with Rong Yi. He would not let go of anyone who showed him any perfunctory or contemptuous attitude.
Rong Yi lowered his head and, while Geng Feng's emotions were fluctuating, glanced at him discreetly. He noticed that the man exuded murderous intent.
The main entrance on the 30th floor is different from those on the ground floor. Its superior quality is visible to the naked eye. The silver door is out of place with the walls on both sides, as if a million-dollar fixture is placed in a bare-bones apartment.
Geng Feng, as before, placed one hand on the doorknob, keeping his left hand on the rifle.
Despite pulling hard, the door wouldn't budge. Frustrated, Geng Feng took a deep breath and tried again, but still couldn't open it.
Rong Yi crossed his arms. "How about I do it?"
These words were like a slap in the face to Geng Feng, who stiffened and said, "No need."
Forced to release his grip on the gun, he used both hands to pull the door open slowly. Veins bulged on Geng Feng's forehead, and sweat streamed down his face.
After finding a gap large enough for one person to squeeze through sideways, Geng Feng withdrew his strength and slipped inside.
Rong Yi quickly followed. Upon entering, he first noticed the clean and bright floor, which clearly reflected the two figures standing there. The walls were covered with the same tiles.
"Bang!"
The door behind him closed automatically, and Rong Yi glanced at it before moving on.
The layout here is different from the circular layout downstairs. Looking around, the corridors are wide and interconnected, but I didn't see any familiar little houses.
"Looks like we'll have to find the other entrance to the stairs ourselves," Geng Feng said. "I'm off."
Rong Yi ignored him and focused on observing his surroundings.
Geng Feng glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, his pupils dilating in a way that made him look like he was rolling his eyes. He pretended to turn around, but the next moment he suddenly turned around and started firing his rifle in rapid succession.
Ding ding ding—
All the bullets hit the shield, which was the same height as Rong Yi.
“Really…” Rong Yi’s tone was filled with understanding and helplessness.
Geng Feng dressed like a tough guy, but he deliberately kept a certain distance from her when facing her. He took the lead in conversations with the gatekeepers on each floor and ignored her. The fleeting fear and anger when he looked at her during verbal conflicts revealed his sensitive and fragile heart. Once he was weaker than the person he looked down on, he would definitely take revenge.
Therefore, when Geng Feng turned around, Rong Yi took out a shield and stood in front of him.
The shield was entirely black, with a texture similar to heterogeneous iron. The upper part also had an observation area. Rong Yi saw that Geng Feng's plan had failed, so he fired a series of bullets while retreating.
Rong Yi wasn't in a hurry. He had an ordinary weapon, and the magazine wasn't unlimited; it would eventually run out of ammo.
Sure enough, the magazine was emptied. Geng Feng glanced behind him and continued to remove the magazine and replace it with a new one.
Rong Yi seized the opportunity, and the moment he withdrew his shield, he forcefully threw the Canglan Dagger.
Geng Feng instinctively wanted to switch guns, but then a pale blue light flashed towards him, and his mind went blank.
Rong Yi breathed a sigh of relief and strolled over to the fallen corpse. Geng Feng's eyes were still open, his death unfulfilled.
"Never underestimate any mission taker."
Geng Feng also had a storage ring on his hand. Rong Yi took off her ring expressionlessly. She already had rings on the little fingers of both her hands, so one more wouldn't make a difference.
After glancing at Geng Feng's clothes, Rong Yi knew they were definitely effective. Thinking that even a small number of points could add up, Rong Yi turned away, put away the clothes, and left without looking back.
