Chapter 48 Reappearance of Civilization

Chapter 48 Reappearance of Civilization

Rong Yi looked the evolved zombie up and down, then pointed and asked, "Does anyone in Obsidian City want this?"

In her eyes, the most valuable part of a zombie is the crystal core in its brain; its body is nothing but rotten flesh.

Wei Yanqing glanced at it and immediately looked away. "This level is useless. Someone might want it, but it's not worth it. It's better to give the space to the crystal core."

"Let me see the detector." Rong Yi reached out to see his instrument; although she had bought it, she hadn't actually used it yet.

Wei Yanqing handed him the equipment and moved the zombie's body, along with the blood clots, outside.

The instrument's display screen was showing lines of text. Just as Wei Yanqing had said, judging from the text, the zombies were indeed not worth collecting. However, there seemed to be more at the very bottom. She pressed the Enter key.

"etc!"

Rong Yi suddenly called out, and Wei Yanqing stopped what he was doing and asked in confusion, "What is it?"

Rong Yi held up the device to him, "Zombies are still useful. When burned to ashes, their ashes are excellent fertilizer, which can help non-tiered plants grow to tier one."

Wei Yanqing approached and took the instrument, examining it from beginning to end, and it was indeed so.

After staring at it for several seconds, he turned to look at the pile of corpses, which resembled a small mountain. "We'll burn these when we leave."

These days, zombies are truly a treasure trove. It's a pity I didn't collect the ones I killed on the way. Looks like I need to get into the habit of using an appraisal device, otherwise I'll miss out on so many good things.

Wei Yanqing moved the evolved zombies that had been removed to an open space, separating the non-ranked ones from those with ranks.

Rong Yi hid the level-one crystal core in the leaky net and hung it by the window, making the roars of the zombies downstairs even louder.

After resting for a while, the two looked down at the densely packed horde of zombies and picked up their guns to continue their hunt.

·

As night fell, the zombies became more active. The mall remained dark. During the day, Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing heard several explosions, and then discovered that their cell phone signals had completely disappeared.

Before the signal disappeared, Rong Yi learned from the news that there had been multiple plane crashes around the world, but he couldn't figure out whether it was due to zombies or a magnetic field problem.

In short, people are unlikely to receive official rescue.

Rong Yi wasn't in a hurry to go to Jin'an District. He told Wei Yanqing that he would leave after the harvest was almost complete.

After collecting the crystal cores that had been placed outside, they prepared to rest early.

The two didn't stay on the second floor, but went to the fourth floor instead. Wei Yanqing repaired the broken glass, but at night, there was still a possibility that evolved zombies with amazing jumping ability like those during the day might break in. The fourth floor would give them some reaction time.

After a day of working together, Rong Yi had only one feeling: comfort.

Wei Yanqing could immediately sense any slight discomfort she might feel and heal her. Collecting the crystal cores was also very easy for him; if she were to do it herself, it would take her a long time to collect them.

As Rong Yi moved his neck, he watched Wei Yanqing quietly dividing the crystal core. His combat uniform accentuated his good physique, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs. His slender and powerful hands moved like plucking strings. The golden mask was made to fit his facial features, but it could not hide his deep and three-dimensional features.

Wei Yanqing sensed her staring at him. "What do you want to ask?"

"Why wear a mask? Is it to maintain an air of mystery?" Rong Yi asked casually.

“It’s not for covering up, but this mask has the function of blocking mental energy, so of course it’s to block outsiders.” Wei Yanqing sorted out the crystal cores. “I have a talent for mental energy, and I know how troublesome it is to be entangled by this ability. The mask can protect my entire brain.”

Rong Yi nodded. "Then this must be very expensive. It seems you've been through quite a few dungeons."

Wei Yanqing smiled without saying a word, and handed Rong Yi her share, saying, "Keep it; you had a good haul today."

When Rong Yi put away the crystal cores, Hui Zi became even more excited, wishing he could jump off the screen and fly onto the pile of crystal cores.

"I haven't asked about your identity in the instance yet. I am the daughter of the mayor of this city, but it seems that the mayor is in trouble. The bodyguards who were supposed to pick me up are busy protecting him."

Wei Yanqing sat down opposite Rong Yi. "My identity is that of a college student with no relatives or friends. It's not very useful for the mission. You're in a better position."

“Not good.” Rong Yi didn’t think this identity was very useful. “If the mayor doesn’t have any problems, it’s fine. But if something happens to him and he can’t go to the base, then this identity of mine is useless.”

In other words, they are on the same starting line, and if they want to build a base and gain contribution points, they can only rely on themselves.

The two chatted briefly, and after finishing their meal, they each found a spot to lay out their sleeping bags.

·

After the crystal core was put away, the roars of the zombie horde outside subsided considerably.

Rong Yi didn't rush to sleep. Instead, he took out a bag of crystal cores, inserted his hand into it, and the gray text flashed as he began to absorb them. The bag of two hundred crystal cores disappeared in a few seconds.

The gray text still showed 0%, and Rong Yi couldn't help but sigh. How much would it take to make it effective? He had only encountered one evolved zombie today. If there were more later, he would try feeding one.

Ignoring the flickering gray characters, Rong Yi slept peacefully until dawn, when he was awakened by the increasingly loud roar.

She sat up in a daze, and hearing the soft rustling sound not far away, as well as the sound of boots scraping against the porcelain floor, she guessed that Wei Yanqing had also gotten up.

She tossed her hair and used her fingers as a comb to gather her thick, long hair.

Wei Yanqing knew she was awake. Sensing a faint, persistent stench wafting into the mall, he frowned and said, "Many of the zombies outside have left. I'll go take a look."

Rong Yi nodded with his eyes closed.

Just as Wei Yanqing said, about half of the zombies outside had dispersed, which suggests that it was quite lively outside last night, attracting a surge of zombies.

The sun was shining brightly today, making people feel lazy. Rong Yi leaned against the window, enjoying the sunshine, took out a box of breakfast and started eating, completely ignoring the zombies wandering downstairs.

Wei Yanqing modified the glass, extending the outer layer into a hook shape, with bags of crystal cores hanging on it, causing all the zombies to look up and reach out.

When Rong Yi came downstairs, over a thousand zombies had gathered again.

"They are stronger than yesterday, so I reinforced the glass door."

Rong Yi raised an eyebrow, swiftly drew his gun and blew the heads off several zombies, his eyes sparkling as he stared at him, "Check the crystal core level."

Wei Yanqing: "..."

He followed the instructions to recover the crystal nucleus, and when the instrument detected it, it beeped and showed that it was a level one crystal nucleus with no attribute.

"What about the other few?" Rong Yi thought that even level one stones had a chance of being obtained.

All the tests were conducted, and three of them were level one with no attributes. The rest were still not up to level. Only a day and a night had passed.

The speed is too fast.

Players have to stay in this world for a full year. No wonder there's no penalty for failure, because anyone who fails dies here.

Rong Yi was silent for a moment, then picked up his gun and began firing bursts. "We'll start burning it this afternoon and try to leave the mall by tonight."

“I have some special alcohol here. I poured it on the outermost layer. There should be some gas fermenting inside. The instruments also show that zombies without crystal cores are flammable.” Wei Yanqing said, taking out a bucket of special alcohol.

Rong Yi recognized this; he used it to drive away the horde of spiders in the Brave Survival dungeon.

"With this burning speed, it must be pretty fast. Judging from the mission description, I guess the side quest will only be unlocked after entering the base." Rong Yi said while fighting zombies. They had killed so many zombies, but the system hadn't made any moves. They figured they would have to go to the base to activate the main mission theme.

Wei Yanqing also took out his gun. He was calmer today than yesterday when he opened fire indiscriminately.
