Chapter 54 Reappearance of Civilization
In almost one night, the temperature dropped from around 30 degrees to below 10 degrees. Yesterday, I saw people wearing light clothes, but today everyone is wearing thick coats.
Although Rong Yi had a functional suit to regulate her body temperature, her exposed skin could still feel the changes in temperature. A cool breeze brushed against her cheeks, taking away a trace of her warmth.
"Can a virus change the planet's temperature?" Rong Yi touched his forehead; the wind was quite cool.
"Perhaps." Wei Yanqing exhaled wisps of hot air as he spoke. "Dungeon worlds are always full of strange and wonderful things."
He felt that the virus alone could not have caused the current situation; there must be other factors involved. Otherwise, zombies wouldn't have crystal cores in the back of their heads. Crystal cores are pure energy, and viruses don't have that much energy.
A figure appeared ahead, seemingly emerging from a room, arms wrapped around itself, looking shivering from the cold.
Rong Yi slowed his pace, but even slowing down couldn't stop him from encountering more and more people. As he approached Jin'an District, the number of people increased.
Before long, people arrived behind him, and Rong Yi could even hear their conversation.
"Does a safe base really exist?"
"They say there is, but if we don't go there, where else can we go? At least Jin'an District is something to look forward to."
Rong Yi glanced at Wei Yanqing and said in a low voice, "Now that the news has spread, it seems we need to join the main group."
Wei Yanqing blinked and replied, "I'll change my mask; gold is more eye-catching."
Unexpectedly, this was the answer. Rong Yi looked around and, finding that no one was watching them, nodded silently.
Wei Yanqing removed his golden mask, and it was the first time Rong Yi had seen his teammate's full face. His icy blue eyes were sharp and deep, his features were prominent, and his angular profile was both sharp and gentle, a perfect blend of strength and elegance.
The handsome face had barely touched the air for a second before the black mask was on. The person wearing the mask looked at Rong Yi with a leisurely air, "Does it look good?"
Rong Yi nodded honestly, "It looks pretty good."
Wei Yanqing smiled, his blue eyes sparkling like stars. "You're beautiful too."
The black mask was indeed more understated than the gold one; even if someone looked at it out of curiosity, they would only glance at it.
The crowd on the road gradually formed a line. When zombies appeared ahead, everyone worked together to deal with them. Before the people behind could get close, the few zombies had already been dealt with.
Suddenly, several players appeared in Rong Yi's line of sight. They were clearly different from the staggering natives, not to mention that they were all carrying guns.
Upon seeing the guns, some people were quite frightened, fearing that they were thugs who had stolen guns from the police station. Seeing the players holding guns and on guard, the others tacitly moved behind them, with the armed players scouting ahead.
Sure enough, they encountered zombies not long after, but the player quickly dealt with them with a machine gun.
One of the players pulled out a dagger from his waist, cut open the zombie's head, put on gloves and took out the crystal core. His companion opened a bottle of water, rinsed the crystal core, and then put it away.
This caused quite a stir among the indigenous people who knew nothing about it, and some of them mustered up the courage to ask, "Excuse me, what did you dig up?"
It looked about the size of a soybean, like a milky white pebble.
The player who was mining the crystal core stood up. "Crystal core." His tone was impatient, clearly unwilling to explain further.
The person who asked the question didn't dare to say much, silently retreating back to the group, glancing back at the zombies they had killed earlier.
As the number of people around increased, Wei Yanqing did not secretly collect the crystal cores of the zombies killed by the natives earlier. He also had a premonition that he would encounter players soon. Not everyone could collect crystal cores as easily as he could. If it was discovered that the zombies did not have crystal cores on the back of their heads, things would get interesting.
The news that the zombie had a crystal core in the back of its head spread quickly among the people, and soon some people took action. Those with knives endured the disgust and dug open the zombie's head, and sure enough, they saw a hard, solid thing.
Even if they don't know the effects of the crystal cores yet, they certainly won't let them go after seeing players collecting them.

Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing, who were mixed in with the crowd, did not make a move. Everyone's attention was on the ever-increasing number of players.
The players were too easy to spot. They made no attempt to avoid the dungeon's native inhabitants, brazenly carrying their guns as they walked down the path. Some squads even joined together. The natives wanted to listen but dared not get too close to them.
When some players saw Rong Yi and his group, they exchanged glances and then left each other alone.
Suddenly, Rong Yi felt a chill run down her spine. Wei Yanqing grabbed her arm and said, "A horde of nearly a hundred zombies is approaching, and they're moving very fast."
"A horde of zombies!" shouted the player in front.
The announcement caused a commotion among the crowd, who instinctively moved closer to the players, hoping they could hold off the horde of zombies. Unfortunately, the zombies not only attacked from the front but also emerged from the alleys on both sides of the road.
A gun-wielding squad seemed to have turned these once resilient ordinary people back into a parasitic state, with screams filling the air above the road.
Rong Yi happened to be not far from the alley and saw the zombies rushing towards him. He said to Wei Yanqing, "Why don't you go to the other side?"
Wei Yanqing nodded and pointed to the zombies in the alley, saying, "Go ahead and fight them. Give me the crystal cores."
After working together for several days, Rong Yi was very convinced of his abilities.
Those who were very close to them then noticed that the man who had been silent all along suddenly pulled out a gun. They were startled but also relieved that their safety was now more assured.
Rong Yi moved with ease, his silenced pistol whizzing down zombies one by one. A zombie that had run out of the alley hadn't even taken its second step when its brow snapped back slightly from the impact of the bullet before it collapsed limply.
The zombies behind them suffered the same fate, becoming victims of gunfire.
Amid the chaos, Wei Yanqing did not forget to collect the crystal cores. Since people had no idea where to look, no one noticed the few crystal cores floating in front of them.
The only players in the middle of the group were Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing. However, there were more than two alleys along this road, and soon zombies rushed out from other alleys, like hungry wolves running into a flock of sheep.
The woman, protecting her two children, frantically tried to pick them up, but the zombies were too fast; their distorted faces and sharp teeth covered in bits of flesh were already right in front of her.
"No!" the woman screamed in extreme fear.
With a bang, the charging zombie was engulfed in flames. At this stage, the zombie was still very afraid of fire, and immediately stopped its attack to try to shake off the flames.
The woman took the opportunity to hold her two young children, completely unaware that her skin was bright red, as if she had been scorched by fire.
"Mommy, you have a fever," the daughter in her arms said, her voice trembling with tears. She had been frightened by the zombies so close to her, but dared not cry out loud.
The woman murmured, "It's okay, Mom is okay..." She just wanted her child to get closer to the armed group.
Her husband had died for them, and she couldn't lose any of her children.
After stumbling and falling, the woman nervously touched her two children, asking, "Did you fall? Does it hurt?"
The two children had tears on their faces. The boy reached out his little hand to her face and said, "Mom, your face is so red."
The woman was startled to realize that her body was burning hot, and when she looked at her hands, she saw that her skin was faintly orange-red.
"She's awakened her talent, hasn't she?" an unfamiliar voice said.
