Chapter 65 Reappearance of Civilization
The factory yielded a great harvest for Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing, but when they went outside, they found that there were still no zombies around.
"Both big black pigs are gone, so why are the zombies still afraid to come near here?" Rong Yi wondered.
"Perhaps the lingering effects haven't dissipated yet." This was the only guess Wei Yanqing could make.
When they arrived, they sensed something was amiss with the factory's quietness, but the radar that detected danger remained silent.
"Perhaps that power wouldn't work on a living person."
In Rong Yi's view, humans are the most reckless creatures in the biological world.
The audience has become immune to their dissatisfaction with the two men's decision to turn off the comments.
What incredible luck! They found the most valuable of the five side quests.
Even level five mutated animals can't beat them.
They have great potential; I wonder which company will take notice of them.
[It's not that easy for nobles to be granted amnesty; these two aren't qualified.]
[Still in its growth stage, there's potential for improvement]
Rong Yi was unaware of the comments on the screen; they were currently watching another mission location in Kangtai District.
“It’s more than twelve kilometers away.” Wei Yanqing pointed to the route between the locations. “After a few days, the zombies have clearly started to gather. Now the roads aren’t teeming with zombies. We’ll go to the factory’s dormitory area later to see if there are any vehicles available.”
They searched the area thoroughly but couldn't remember the dormitory area.
Rong Yi: "The dorms? Let's go check them out. We've already searched most of the other places."
Wei Yanqing put away the map, closed his eyes to sense the location of each building in the factory, and quickly found the dormitory area. He pointed to it with a reassuring gesture, "Over there."
When we arrived, we found a parking area next to the dormitory area with a lot of electric bikes parked there. However, that wasn't the main point. Most of the bikes were overturned, some looked like they had been trampled, and the mess at the dormitory entrance clearly showed that the black pigs had ravaged the area.
Since they were able to come here, it means there are probably people inside the building. However, those two pigs are extremely robust, so it's unlikely they could have entered the building.
Wei Yanqing was still looking for a usable car when Rong Yi looked up at the building and shouted, "Is anyone else here?"
People must be saved. In this era of power and internet shortages, the value of human labor, the primary productive force, has increased. Whether it's base construction or various industries, people are needed to support them.
Her shout successfully drew people out from every floor of the building.
Someone mustered up the courage to ask, "Is it just the two of you?"
Rong Yi nodded, "Just the two of us. Are you going to the security base in Jin'an District? We can escort you."
The survivors upstairs clearly didn't believe that just two people could possibly provide an escort. "Let's wait..."
“You can’t think like that.” Rong Yi certainly wouldn’t give up. “Right now it’s just the two of us, but you have the numbers, so let’s work together.”
Just then someone shouted, "I don't know how you two got in, but there are two huge pigs in the factory. Hurry up and hide inside, or you won't be able to escape when they come looking for you!"
"Yes, yes, yes! Two pigs, and they're big ones!" he said, gesturing as he spoke.
They snapped out of their shock at seeing strangers and remembered that they had been hiding because of those two ferocious black pigs.
Hearing this well-intentioned reminder, Rong Yi put his hands on his hips and said, "The pig is dead, come out now. What you'll have to worry about later are the zombies outside."
The people in the building couldn't believe it. Rong Yi heard the noise and turned around to find that Wei Yanqing had found an electric scooter with pedals.
The car has been sitting here for days, and even though it's fully charged, it hasn't been used, so there's not much battery left.
He rode his bike next to Rong Yi. "This is the only bike with pedals. Why don't you sit behind me?"
Rong Yi sighed that he hadn't gotten into the zone yet, and pointed his thumb toward the dormitory building, "So many people need us, there's no need to ride the bike, let's walk back."
"It's alright." Wei Yanqing glanced at the people upstairs who were still in shock. "There are still quite a few bicycles over there. Let them ride along, or I'll go first and you follow behind, protecting them from both sides."
That makes sense, Rong Yi patted him on the shoulder, "Good idea."
It wasn't that they wanted to be lazy, but the road conditions and distance were different from the previous few kilometers. It took them most of the day to get to the factory, so they figured riding bikes would be faster.
·
At first, the people upstairs didn't believe the black pig was dead, until Wei Yanqing released the male black pig's carcass. The employees in the building were very familiar with it, so they immediately went downstairs to see for themselves, putting aside the fact that Wei Yanqing had released the object out of thin air. This was because some of them were superhumans, but unfortunately, their levels were too low to obtain crystal cores to improve their strength. Faced with the male black pig's absolute power, they could only cower upstairs.
"It was this beast. It suddenly howled that day. Luckily, we had been hiding upstairs. It went crazy down there for a while, and finally left because it couldn't get up. After that, it often came here to see if we were coming down."
The balding middle-aged man was quite emotional, recounting his thrilling experience that day in great detail.
In fact, the factory was well-defended. Except when some people turned into zombies during the virus outbreak, which caused some chaos among the employees, they worked together to kill the zombies and throw them out of the dormitory building. They then guarded the allocated supplies and huddled there.
Therefore, when the male black boar came in, they were not injured or killed. Fortunately, the building was of good quality; otherwise, they would probably have been killed.
"The female pig often takes those piglets around, and the male pig comes over every now and then and growls. We dare not provoke them at all." The bald uncle described the scene so vividly that he could almost picture it in his mind.
"Uncle, let's talk when you get to the base. We need to get going quickly. Pack whatever you have, but don't bring too much. Bicycles have a limited load capacity, so don't deform the tires."
Rong Yi interrupted the uncle, fearing that if he didn't stop him, he might talk until dark.
"Brother, can't you just collect things out of thin air? Can I leave them here with you? I'm willing to pay you." The bespectacled young man was not at all shy, daring to ask them to temporarily accept the supplies without fear of them being embezzled.
Wei Yanqing hadn't expected him to be so broad-minded. It was the end of the world, and resources were so important.
"If you don't mind, you can leave it with me, but I won't explain anything you think is shortchanging you."
Let me be frank from the start: although everyone seems quite nice, you can't see into people's hearts. If someone comes to the base and starts making a fuss about something being missing, I can't do anything about it, and I have no idea how to prove it.
Sure enough, these words calmed the previously excited crowd down a bit.
But this did not include the young man with glasses. "It's okay. You two are so capable, you can even kill a big black pig. You look like decent people, and you don't seem to lack supplies. Why would you care about my measly little things?"
That makes some sense.
The deliveryman's words moved the others, and everyone unloaded all the supplies. Since there was a place to put them, they didn't leave out anything, including quilts, sheets, and basins.
Rong Yi had said that the base was in the construction phase and many things were lacking, so they naturally had to take this opportunity to clean out the entire building.
Wei Yanqing first gathered the items together, and the employees put away their own belongings. Then he watched as they emptied the other empty dormitories as well.
The factory they came to was a branch of this group. Due to the mechanized process of pharmaceutical manufacturing, there were limited employees in the factory, so this dormitory building was built, and nearly a hundred people survived.
Since they were no longer in a hurry and had too much stuff to carry, they decided to rest there for the night and set off again tomorrow. It was getting dark.
I expect to release it this Saturday, the 11th. If you're interested, please support me. Thank you everyone!
Sigh, is this book really that bad? It feels like each one is worse than the last, it's all so lackluster.
