Emotion without trace

Emotion without trace

Gui Yao lowered her eyes, turned around and left the village chief's house.

The system's voice gradually faded away in her mind, and she stood in front of her uncle, unable to hide the tears in her eyes.

"They're all back... They can go up and down the mountain. The village chief's condition has been stable, and he's eating liquid food. I must have told you to turn him over. It must be a complication. There were no CT machines in the old days to check the extent of the brain damage after he fainted. There's no way to monitor his heart rate or blood pressure."

She struggled slightly to break free from the embrace behind her, and her tears fell on the wet ground, but a brief flash of helplessness flashed across her uncle's eyes, and at that moment, she was speechless.

After a while, Guiyao apologized softly.

My uncle said, "You gave the village chief a thick pillow so he could sleep sideways at night, let him use a cane, and used your homemade seasoning. Girl, you've done enough. I often feel that since you woke up, you have a different perspective on this impetuous world. We doctors don't believe in fate, but fallen leaves return to their roots and we adapt to local conditions. Sometimes we can only sigh that everything is determined by fate."

"But I." Guiyao's slender back was trembling.

She shrank in Ren Beixi's increasingly aggressive embrace, her long eyelashes filled with impulse. In the end, she just watched her uncle walk back to the village chief's room. The villagers also rushed in. She just held Ren Beixi's hand, her voice unusually hoarse: "But I don't believe in fate."

Ren Beixi silently acquiesced.

Guiyao wiped away her tears.

Looking up, he saw Da Huang wagging his tail and rubbing against the villagers' trouser legs. The puppy didn't understand why everyone was so sad. He just thought his master had a long sleep, and he no longer had to wait for news from the north, and he got to see the little master he wanted to see.

But those old palms would never touch the light yellow hair on the tips of his ears again.

The crescent moon climbs up to the treetops.

It had been drizzling for the past few days. The village chief's grave was left behind long ago, and his parents and his deceased wife were buried next to it. Huang Shiyu stayed there for two days carving a stone tablet before wiping the rain off his face and returning to the village to fulfill his father's last wishes.

The dog named Dahuang followed him and was unwilling to leave.

At the hour of Xu, Gui Yao was sitting in the yard holding a watermelon, while on the roof, Huang Shiyu was quietly looking at the watermelon field under the moon. The two were not far apart, but Ren Beixi was standing under the roof cutting watermelon. Gui Yao said that she had eaten too many half-opened watermelons in the past few days and wanted some cut ones.

Huang Shiyu's perspective was just right to see Ren Beixi's movements.

He remembered what he had just said: During the construction of the dam, many people who came to watch saw the heroic appearance of Huxiazhai. It would be a good idea to let him join the management of Xianyucheng in the name of the leader of Huxiazhai, and change Huxiazhai from a mountain stronghold to an officially governed ferry.

"By then, your adopted child, Huanian, will also receive the basic education that the people of Xianyu City receive."

Thinking of this, Huang Shiyu stood up and called out, "Gui Yao, would you like to tell me about the North you know?"

The young lady paused in eating the melon, and with red ears, she went to wash her hands beside Ren Beixi who was cutting the melon. Then, General Ren held her waist and flew to the roof together. Gui Yao's face turned a little red, and she took Ren Beixi's hand and sat on the side of the roof.

Guiyao held up her face and looked at the round moon in the sky.

"I went to the north in my dreams."

"It's also very cold there in the winter, with snow so deep you can wade through it. People make amazing ice sculptures, and dogs pull sleds, but you have to pay to pull them once, which is a bit expensive, but that's the norm in all scenic areas. I was also particularly impressed by the bathhouse culture there, but I didn't try it because my friend who was traveling with me was shy. But she did accompany me to Changbai Mountain for rafting, which was a unique, fun, and beautiful experience."

"Friends?" Ren Beixi muttered solemnly.

Guiyao nodded.

"She's the most important person in my dream. If I could introduce you to her, it would be great, but..."

"Let's not talk about this anymore."

"At least that winter was wonderful."

It was a long time since she finished speaking. Gui Yao felt somewhat helpless and bumped into Ren Beixi.

Ren Beixi did not comment.

He just held Guiyao's hot palm tightly.

Huang Shiyu pondered for a long time and said, "Indeed, it's quite different from what I thought of the north. I did want to join the army and did a lot of research. The roads there are difficult to travel, the weather is freezing, and there are many bandits and robbers. It's completely different from Xianyu City."

But in the end he was unable to leave the Yu City.

Huang Shiyu's smile faded, and he stood up with one hand supporting himself, bowing his head slightly. "Thank you both for allowing me to return to the village to see my father for the last time. He has been buried now. After the seventh day, I will return to Xianyu City to take up my post. From now on, Xiaohe Village will no longer have a member of the Huang family as village chief."

He took out the letter from his arms and handed it to Guiyao.

"This is the pile of letters you sent me. I found some letters from my father to you and the Gui family among them."

Gui Yao took it in a daze and was about to open it, but she saw Huang Shiyu pressing the envelope back with one hand and said, "Wait until I leave Xiaohe Village before reading it."

She nodded.

"Can I touch your head?" Huang Shiyu suddenly asked.

There was some doubt in Gui Yao's eyes, but she immediately nodded subconsciously.

But Huang Shiyu just turned his back.

Easy way.

"Goodbye Guiyao, goodbye General Ren."

Gui Yao watched him leave.

The last time she parted with him in Xiaohe Village, it was clearly a precondition that they would never see each other again, but why was her heart beating so hard this time, as if this was their final farewell?

Maybe the flowers will bloom again one day.

She turned around and saw Ren Beixi still sitting on the roof. The sword at his waist was standing in front of him at some point. His knuckles pressed on the scabbard and he looked up at her.

Guiyao walked over.

"Aren't you going to ask me about the north in my dreams?"

"No question."

"Okay then." Gui Yao lay on Ren Beixi's knees and looked up at him. "Would you like to tell me about the north you have seen? I want to hear it."

Ren Beixi covered her eyes with his hands, his eyes dark.

The man's voice was deep: "Sometimes it's good to stay in a dream."

Gui Yao blinked, gently grasped his big hand with one hand, and placed the other hand on Ren Beixi's chest, her eyelashes trembling slightly: "Think it over carefully, if you don't want to tell me, I won't give you a chance in the future."

"Opportunity?" the man asked in a deep voice.

There was a fleeting kiss. Gui Yao leaned close to the man's lips, and her breath fell on his high nose bridge.

"Yes, an opportunity that belongs to you alone, and is the only one of mine in the world."

Gui Yao paid the price for this incident tonight. Her slightly open lips were covered, her neck was slightly raised, and her gentle sobs were swallowed by the sound of rain.

Water marks spread from the roof to the gray walls inside the room. Gui Yao kicked the vicious man with her feet, her lips bitten and her blood sucked as if she wanted to eat him whole. She had no choice but to beg for mercy: "Ren Beixi, talking to you is simply courting death. I won't try to comfort you anymore, you...hiss, you are just not satisfied with me telling those things to others? No, don't bite!"

In the second half of the night, she finally understood how much patience this person had shown when she was not feeling well in the past.

"How about fainting?"

"Ren Beixi! I'm healthy now, but I'm not as healthy as you!!"

When I woke up the next day, it was already noon, and the smoke from the houses in Xiaohe Village was no shorter than before.

Because of the previous flood, my aunt was invited to the neighboring village to do some work. She just came back today. She was sad to learn that the village chief had passed away. Everyone was more silent than usual when they ate together. After dinner, Guiyao saw Dahuang, who had not been seen for several days, on the stone bridge at the entrance of the village.

She didn't know what to say to Dahuang.

The big yellow dog barked several times beside her before she leaned over, touched its head, and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

It was silent again.

Guiyao touched its head and also said nothing.

After a long time, he whispered, "Do you want to leave Xiaohe Village with Huang Shiyu?"

Dahuang lay on the ground and whimpered twice.

Gui Yao somehow thought of Miaomiao in the general's mansion. It was the little animal she met when she first arrived in Xianyu City. Now she was about to part with Dahuang, but this time, Dahuang would not wait for her there.

The next day, she and Ren Beixi bid farewell to Huang Shiyu and Dahuang at the village entrance.

Gui Yao stuffed several bags of dried meat that she had hidden in the cabinet into Huang Shiyu's pockets and asked him to feed him a small amount at a time. Huang Shiyu was greedy but had a bad stomach, so he had to be especially careful since it was his first time raising a dog.

Huang Shiyu scratched his head: "Just treat it as Hua Nian."

Gui Yao waved to them and the dog, saying that the road ahead was long and the two dogs had to support each other.

That night, she remembered the letter Huang Shiyu handed her, raised the candle and took a quick look. There was a light ink mark among the village chief's handwriting, which could not be seen clearly without careful observation.

"What a night it is, seeing this good man, who is the village chief writing to? No, it's not right... Ah! Don't pull me."

Gui Yao was grabbed by the man behind her and pulled into his arms.

A sleepless night.

By the time everything was done, it was already late summer.

An ancient poem says: After the rain, the whole yard is filled with the fragrance of lotus flowers. When the melons in Xiaohe Village are ripe, the lotus flowers will bloom. At the end of summer, people from Xianyu City will come to the village to watch. Every day when Guiyao passed by, she saw that the stone bridge was always crowded with people. Just when she was about to sigh that it was great in ancient times that no one checked in or took photos, she saw many painters sitting on the hillside in the distance painting.

In order to set a good example for her uncle, the new village chief, Guiyao often went to maintain order when she had nothing to do.

Someone recognized her as the general's wife, and she was pushed to the place where the flowers were most lush. The painters on the hillside began to change their canvases or add more portraits to their flower scenes. Gui Yao was trapped helplessly. Soon General Ren came over, and the couple was surrounded by the lotus flowers.

The young lady is more beautiful than a lotus in a light green and peach pink alternating skirt.

Ren Beixi next to him was dressed in cloth, and rarely wore white. He stood behind the young lady. Anyone who saw him would say that they were a perfect match!

When I have some free time, it is already sunset.

Guiyao smiled and told everyone to come to Xiaohe Village more often when they have time. A man grabbed her clothes by the back of her neck and walked towards the village.

"What are you doing...?" Gui Yao's eyes widened.

Li Yuqing, dressed in plain clothes, sat upright in the Gui family courtyard, holding a teacup in one hand.

Gui Yao blinked, and with her hands she managed to remember how to greet him: "Greetings to the Madam."

She felt as if she was being seen through, and dejectedly hid beside her aunt. When she looked up and saw that Ren Beixi was obviously unhappy, she pulled his arm away and led him towards her.

Li Yuqing looked straight ahead and said, "I came here today to deliver a letter from Erlang's brother Li Cong."

She waved her hand, and a kitten appeared out of nowhere and jumped onto her legs. Seeing her clothes stained with mud and paw prints, she frowned rarely.

"Miao Miao, go down." The woman's voice was cold.

The kitten, its lower body covered in mud, rolled over on her as usual.

Guiyao quickly picked up Miaomiao and looked at her in front of her. It was a white cat with blue eyes. Miaomiao was the real cat.

She put it on the ground and saw it swish its tail and roll around at her feet. The next second, a big black dog rushed out of the room, pressed Miaomiao with its big paws and tried to stuff it into its mouth. If it couldn't fit, it would lick it vigorously with its tongue...

Guiyao: = =

It's true that pets become like their owners after being raised for a long time.
