Rain
Guiyao was holding an oil-paper umbrella, and the raindrops fell on the top of the umbrella and on the branches of flowers around her.
She sent the little tortoise shell away, looked at Ren Beixi's back as he held the cat, and remained silent for a long time.
"System..." Forgot you were not here again.
She leisurely walked to the kitchen, instructed what soup to have in the evening, and ate with the relatives of the general's mansion. Finally, she leaned against the wall with the medicine in her hand, watching the raindrops falling on the corner of the building.
Her aunt laughed at her: "Yaoyao has grown up and has her own worries."
She shook her head subconsciously, paused, and nodded.
It rains a lot in early spring, and the rain can still be seen overnight.
The next day, Guiyao woke up early. She opened her eyes and pinched the face of the cat-shaped alarm clock. Miaomiao's feet were still on her stomach, which were quite heavy and made her almost unable to breathe. She coughed for a long time when she got up.
"It's okay, it's okay, I forgot, cough cough cough, I forgot."
In the past, the system would call her when there was something important. Last night, she had an idea and asked Miaomiao to step on her to wake her up at noon.
Mission accomplished perfectly.
I just didn't remember how weak I was now, nor did I remember that Miaomiao weighed more than 20 pounds.
Guiyao took out a mountain-colored skirt from the closet.
She said yesterday that she didn't like too many people serving her, so she only left Pinyue.
When she woke up early this morning, she put on some makeup and powder, threw away the precious hairpin from yesterday, and then made a beautiful pigtail plus version.
It seemed too simple, Guiyao held her face with a worried look.
"This is the first time Cat has seen such a rough living environment in the General's Mansion."
Guiyao pinched Miaomiao's ears and gently corrected her speech error, saying that "rough" is not a good word to describe a person.
Miaomiao stepped on Xiaoshanzhu and sat down on the dressing table. She scratched one of the cabinets. Guiyao opened it curiously and saw several small and beautiful silver ornaments. She put them on her head and gestured, asking, "Has anyone lived here before?"
The sky was brighter, but the rain was still falling.
Gui Yao looked down at Miaomiao who was squatting at her feet, feeling a little confused.
She originally thought that this courtyard was a simple residence for guests in the general's mansion, but Miaomiao said that she had heard from former relatives that this was where Li Yuqing temporarily lived when she was waiting to get married. General Ren loved her so much that he planted many of her favorite flowers and trees for her before the wedding.
Miaomiao asked her, "Who is Li Yuqing?"
Gui Yao fell silent for no reason.
Seeing that her uncle and aunt were still asleep, she took the cat and wandered around.
The kitten has its own opinion.
When they arrived at the pavilion, Miaomiao said that last time it had pooped by the lake, the servants mistook it for chestnuts and picked it up with their hands. When they arrived at the warehouse, Miaomiao started barking and said that it had been accidentally locked up there before and had been hungry for a long time.
There was water on the road ahead. Guiyao bent down to pick it up and saw it stepping lightly over the water.
She walked further and actually reached the door. That day, she thought that this mansion with a wealthy family must be cannibalistic. Now, looking out from the inside, the passers-by were either wearing conical hats or holding umbrellas like her.
The Chen hour is about to arrive.
Gui Yao sat by the fish pond watching the rain. She had originally wanted to wait for a group of people to go to the prefecture together, but she didn't expect to wait for this person.
"Zheng Er claimed to be ill and could not leave, so the Zheng family went to stay in a temple outside the city."
Ren Beixi supported his scabbard with one hand. He was wearing a dark green brocade robe today with ink-colored cloud patterns finely wrapped around the fabric.
Miaomiao leaned aside and meowed.
These two people look very well matched in this winding corridor.
Gui Yao looked at him with her bright eyes: "Did the Zheng family accept the summons? If they accepted it and still didn't act, what kind of ability does their family have?"
Although she had been curious in the past, her family lived in seclusion after all, and no matter how much she read, she only had a superficial understanding of the current political situation.
Xianyu City is the most famous place outside the capital of the An Dynasty. Although its scenery is not as good as that of the south of the Yangtze River, its economy is extended by the Yangtze River, not to mention that the General Ren family's mansion is here.
It can be said that the sea is peaceful and the rivers are clear, and the times are peaceful and the harvest is abundant.
"Do you want to hear the answer from the General's Mansion or mine?" Ren Beixi's voice was a little hoarse.
Gui Yao looked up hesitantly. The sound of rain suddenly stopped at this moment. She stood up and reached out to get some water. The cold wind blew from her eyebrows to her clothes.
"What's the difference between General Ren and the General's Mansion?" Gui Yao stood up straight. The man wanted to put his hand on her lips, but she grabbed his wrist. "If the daughter of Li Fuyin was not the niece of Li Yuqing, and Li Yuqing was not my future mother-in-law, I would definitely not have given this case a second glance."
Is that so? Ren Beixi only felt that Guiyao's hands were very cold.
The corners of her eyes were slightly red, and her lips were shimmering with water. The person before her was timid towards everyone, weak and soft, and if she was pinched, she would probably draw water out.
Why did she take off her disguise just for him?
Ren Beixi didn't say anything, but his dark eyes suddenly showed a smile.
Gui Yao didn't dare look at him, and added delicately, "My daughter is not very knowledgeable, but if General Ren dares to tell me what is so unique about the Zheng family, that would be great."
...It’s too early to talk about that.
He paused to look at her fingertips tugging at the corner of his clothes.
"In the winter of the second year of Chengwen, Captain Zheng pretended to surrender to the enemy and secretly sent the enemy's food and fodder by water. When our army arrived, the leader of the northern barbarians shot him through the throat and he was hung on the city gate for seven days."
"After the Northern Barbarian surrendered, I went to the city gate and pulled his body down."
After he finished speaking, there was silence all around.
"The Zheng family didn't come to identify the body." Ren Beixi said solemnly, "I originally thought Zheng Yuan was the best shoot out of the Zheng family's bad bamboo."
What happened next? Guiyao tilted her head back slightly, listening attentively.
The man asked her in a calm voice, "Guiyao, are you going to Yunchuan Temple outside the city or not?"
Before Gui Yao could react, the man grabbed her wrist back and the oil-paper umbrella was forgotten on the balcony. She followed him through the main hall and the pavilion and stopped at the main house in the backyard. There was a gurgling stream and layered rockery here, which did not look like an inner house at all.
"Aren't we going to the temple?" She blinked.
Ren Beixi went in with the sword in hand, leaving her to wander in front of the door for a moment, as it was too quiet here.
There are many small leaves and bonsai in the courtyard.
Gui Yao vaguely guessed that this was the lady's residence, so she stayed there properly, but she couldn't help looking around.
Suddenly, someone called her name.
"Today is the Waking of Zhe."
The lady came out holding a bowl of soup.
Gui Yao was still bowing and about to answer when she heard her deep voice instruct, "The abbot of Yunchuan Temple has been kind to me. There is a ceremony going on during the Jingzhe Festival. You and Erlang should go there for me."
The falling flowers have feelings but the flowing water is ruthless. Gui Yao looked at her back and seemed to understand something briefly.
But where did Ren Beixi go... The young lady tiptoed and squinted her eyes to look into the room, but suddenly there was a cough behind her, which startled her and made her lean forward in panic.
The thin shoulders were blocked by the elbows, and Gui Yao opened her eyes slightly and fell completely into the cold embrace.
She lost her voice and her mind.
His fingers curled up weakly, and after a while he began to breathe breath by breath, his face pale with a sickly flush.
Ren Beixi opened the girl's right hand in his arms, and rubbed the acupuncture point with his rough fingertips to relieve the fright.
The loosened fingertips still left red marks on her fair skin. He covered her sleeves silently. When he lowered his eyes, he could only see her long eyelashes trembling like a small fan.
"Breathe in, breathe out." The man's low voice was right next to her ear. Gui Yao couldn't help but shrink back, and the next second he pressed her shoulders down again.
She had no choice but to follow his instructions while coughing to ease her breathing. After a while, she patted her legs behind her, wanting him to let her up.
Gui Yao paused for a moment before saying, "General Ren, please don't scare me again. I can't stand it."
The man beside her hummed softly, sat with her in the yard for a while, and then took her out.
The carriage was ready at the side door. Gui Yao was helped by Ren Beixi to sit on it. Just when she was about to lift the curtain to look outside, she found that Ren Beixi had also sat on it.
She was not in good health to ride in a carriage, and was he tired of riding a horse? Gui Yao just sat quietly by the side.
Although I was looking at the road, I really didn't recognize it.
After walking for about ten minutes, they stopped once when passing a city alley and shook her awake.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw a big pancake, bigger than her face, steaming hot and fragrant.
Guiyao raised her chin and took a bite.
Chew, chew, chew, and take a few more bites in a daze.
Ren Beixi sat opposite her, looking down at her with her head leaning against the carriage curtain. After a pause, he sat back down beside her.
She was very light, with a light body and head, and she rubbed his shoulder gently when she leaned on it. He silently put the cake away, thinking that she could eat it later.
It was around noon when the carriage arrived in front of the mountain.
When Gui Yao woke up, she subconsciously stretched. Just as she was about to yawn, she opened her eyes and met Ren Beixi's eyes.
To be honest, she is a little scared of Ren Beixi now.
In modern times, she prefers to interact with large, menacing-looking dogs rather than tall, harmless-looking men.
Staying alert is the most natural thing for all animals to do, and sensitivity is a God-given self-protection ability.
She curled her eyes and said, "Are we there yet? The weather today is... really nice."
When people get embarrassed, they appear busy.
During the rainy season, Yunchuan Temple is located in Nanshan. Perhaps most people give up their sincerity in worshiping Buddha after seeing the morning rain.
A young monk was sweeping the long steps as he passed by; the sound of the broom was drowned out by the Buddhist bell.
Guiyao lifted her skirt slightly, not wanting to get stained by the new water on the steps.
Although she did not believe in Buddhism in her previous life, she often visited famous temples to pay her respects when traveling, thinking that since she was already here, she would do so.
But sometimes, when I hold the bunch of incense in my hand, I see something on the Internet saying about adding three more sticks to worship for a generation, and my throat feels like it’s blocked. In the end, I can only quietly use three thin incense sticks to worship from beginning to end, asking the Buddha to protect me from disasters and difficulties.
Guiyao suddenly came over and asked with narrowed eyes.
"General Ren, have you been here before?"
He shook his head as she thought, and she held out her hand to him.
"My heart is pure, I will share some of it with you."
She met his gaze, and seeing that he was still hesitating, she carefully found his hand and held it tightly.
The gaps between their knuckles fit together, as if the palm lines were to be engraved on each other's palms. Her hands were slightly cold, but his were inexplicably hot.
There is a cool breeze.
The leaves on the long street were wet and were blown away. When they landed on her shoulders, he gently picked them up.
Gui Yao walked from the steps to the Buddhist gate, step by step, looking with bated breath, and suddenly stopped.
Today, there is no Jingzhe Dharma Assembly.
