Chapter 45 045 Good Girl | Moon Retreats and Releases
Chapter 45
The dimly lit room had only a single candle flickering in the corner, casting a faint glow, and a faint fragrance filled the air.
The doors and windows were tightly shut, and even the bed curtains were drawn, making the already dim light even more obscured.
The candlelight cast a shadow on the hanging bed curtains, and the extremely faint footsteps grew closer and closer, finally stopping outside the bed curtains.
Startled awake, Lin Wan opened her eyes abruptly. Everything she saw was dim and lifeless. Her mind was still foggy and she was not fully conscious. When she saw the figure reflected in the bed curtains, she was so frightened that she immediately broke out in a cold sweat.
Lin Wan was filled with anxiety and fear. She looked around, but found herself in a daze and unable to focus her gaze.
"ah!"
She tried to get up, but found herself weak and sore all over, let alone able to get up on her own.
All she could do now was hold her breath and gather her strength, but she was too weak and powerless to do anything else.
"You're awake?"
A large, thick hand reached into the bed curtains and then pulled them up to the sides. The dim candlelight illuminated the sandalwood bed and reflected on Lin Wan's wide-eyed, terrified face, casting a faint glow on her slightly pale cheeks.
She struggled to sit up, shouting, "Your Highness?"
Cold sweat trickled down her forehead, and her slightly disheveled hair became damp and clung to her brow. She was alarmed that she couldn't even manage to sit up. "What's wrong with me?"
Xie Huaiyuan smiled and said, "You just woke up, so your body is probably still adjusting."
Lin Wan, who was lying there helplessly, tried her best to calm herself down and recall that she had indeed seen Xie Huaiyuan for the last time that night, talked to him for a while, and then watched him leave. She had gone back to her room to sleep.
But……
She felt like she had slept for a very, very long time, as if she could never wake up, as if she had used calming incense.
She did not feel any discomfort before falling asleep.
Suddenly, Lin Wan's expression changed drastically. She opened her eyes wide and looked around. The simple inner room had no extra decorations. Although there were doors and windows, they were tightly closed, and she could not see the scenery outside at all. This was not the Su residence!
She froze, the faint candlelight glow on her face vanishing completely, replaced by a look of astonishment and even palerness.
Where am I?
In the silence, Xie Huaiyuan could almost be heard chuckle very faintly, "Wanwan, you're not feeling well, so I brought you here to rest. What do you think?"
"I am not feeling unwell; everything is perfectly fine."
Xie Huaiyuan sat sideways on the edge of the bed, frowned slightly, and said, "How could you not feel unwell? You've already become incoherent and forgotten what you said. Aren't you sick?"
She glanced at Xie Huaiyuan with a puzzled look, only to find that he was staring at her intently. Whether it was her imagination or not, her gaze seemed to contain a complex mix of emotions, including... grievance.
"You promised to stay in the capital and wait for me, to wait for my return, but... you didn't keep your word..."
Upon hearing this, Lin Wan's heart skipped a beat, and a strange yet daring idea suddenly sprouted in her mind.
Could it be...?
Xie Huaiyuan gently took her delicate hand and placed it in his palm. He lowered his head and examined it closely, asking, "Is this the hand that Gu Qinghe held before?"
He picked up a damp cloth that he had prepared earlier and meticulously wiped her hands, from her palms to her fingertips, leaving no part untouched.
This side of Xie Huaiyuan gradually filled her with fear. Seeing her delicate palms redden from being repeatedly rubbed, yet Xie Huaiyuan still didn't stop, she trembled involuntarily, wanting to pull her hand away: "No, you don't need to do this, he and I are just..."
But what was it? She couldn't explain it clearly in a short time, since it involved a secret she was keeping.
Upon hearing this, Xie Huaiyuan lowered his eyes to look at her, but he couldn't hear her continue. The scene was silent for a moment. Xie Huaiyuan suddenly chuckled softly, stopped wiping, and his gaze darkened.
She had always known that Xie Huaiyuan's smile was particularly charming, but at this moment she felt a chill for no reason.
Xie Huaiyuan's eyes were filled with hostility, and he said in a chilling tone, "Wanwan, you liar."
"No, I didn't lie..."
He lowered his head and approached, his eyes as dark as an abyss in a cold pool, devoid of any warmth, and slowly said, "You spoke words of joy to me, revealed your true feelings for me, and hoped that I would marry you, but when I left the capital, you went with Gu Qinghe. Aren't you unwell after all that?"
“Your Highness,” Lin Wan quickly pulled her hand back, explaining, “Young Master Gu is a good person, he’s helping me…”
"He only needed one letter to get you to travel from the capital to Lijing to find her, but I also sent you a letter, and what did you do? You just ran away. You really are capable."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Wan froze, staring at him with wide eyes, and asked incredulously, "So, you locked me up here?"
Xie Huaiyuan stared down at her, her lips, now devoid of their usual rosy hue, still chattering incessantly, seemingly trying to find a better excuse for herself. This only added fuel to the fire, and Xie Huaiyuan's face immediately darkened. He narrowed his eyes and stared at her coldly.
Lin Wan trembled under his gaze. As his face drew closer, she hurriedly raised her weak and powerless hands to shield herself.
Xie Huaiyuan ignored Lin Wan's weak and powerless hand blocking his way, but he still stopped. His tone was soft, yet chilling, "You're so fickle when you're trying to seduce people. Why did you provoke me and then go after others? Are you really as fickle as people say?"
"I have never been fickle, do not slander me! You have locked me up here for this reason, this is unacceptable, please let me go back immediately."
"Go back where? To the Su residence? Or to your home in Jiangnan?" Xie Huaiyuan traced the lines of her flawless face with his fingertips, continuing, "Since you've provoked me and stirred my heart, don't even think about leaving me. Even if we die, we'll be entangled together, bound by life and death!"
Before she could finish speaking, Xie Huaiyuan's irresistible kiss landed directly on Lin Wan's lips, silencing her from saying anything more.
Ultimately, he was actually more angry at himself.
The soft touch on her lips sent a shiver down Xie Huaiyuan's spine. He couldn't quite describe his feelings. Upon seeing her, he instinctively tried to explain his departure from the capital.
No matter how many explanations you give, they're all just excuses.
He wouldn't, and wouldn't, let go, and he certainly couldn't allow her to leave his side so indifferently.
Xie Huaiyuan didn't speak, and the bed was silent. Lin Wan was even more unable to speak. Her already weak and sore body was now even more tired and exhausted. The man who had been blocking her way was now completely unable to say anything, as he had blocked her completely.
For a fleeting moment, it seemed that all they could hear from inside the room was each other's breathing; there were no other sounds.
Xie Huaiyuan's kiss suddenly became much hotter and more intense. His expression was soft, focused, and affectionate, but the fire in his heart seemed to be burning again, almost making him lose control.
As Xie Huaiyuan showered Lin Wan with kisses, alarm bells rang in her heart, and she tried to struggle and push him away again.
This shouldn't be happening!
Lin Wan suddenly moved, struggling to try to push the person away.
But it still didn't work. With a soft laugh, the pressure on his lips suddenly disappeared.
As the distance between them widened slightly, Lin Wan, taking advantage of a moment to catch her breath, continued, "Your Highness, please let me go."
Xie Huaiyuan ignored him, "Don't even think about it! Unless you're never around."
He took a deep breath and continued, "If you can do what you said before, never leaving me, then naturally I will not imprison you or restrict your personal freedom."
Lin Wan heard "I won't imprison you" and "I won't restrict your personal freedom," but he continued, "If you can't do that, then you can never leave. I will never let go."
Suddenly, the candle in the corner went out with a "crack" and fell to the ground. Then, they saw the sound of footsteps outside the closed doors and windows, but they could not hear any movement inside the room.
Instantly, all that could be seen was darkness. In this darkness, Xie Huaiyuan's breathing gradually became heavier, his lips rubbing together, accompanied by a soft laugh: "Why are you not as proactive as before?"
She had taken liberties with her and even tried to provoke her with her words, which made her think that Lin Wan was also ruthless.
If we're talking about liars, he's probably the biggest liar out there!
Suddenly, from the hidden corners, there came a rapid knocking sound from outside, seemingly just a wall away.
Although the sound was not loud, it startled Xie Huaiyuan awake.
He finally stopped, looking at the woman's luscious lips, no longer pale and bloodless, but even more alluring.
The knocking grew more and more urgent, as if someone was waiting impatiently.
Helpless, Xie Huaiyuan said softly, "Wanwan, don't run away anymore. Stay here and wait for me. I'll come back to you soon after I've finished my business."
In the dim light of the room, Lin Wan's lips were red from his kisses, and traces of his kisses remained on them.
Under repeated urging, Xie Huaiyuan reluctantly realized that Lin Wan had somehow covered his clothes. He said softly, "Be good, loosen your clothes."
