Chapter 22 Don't Eat Junk Food

The Lu family and the Liu family live in neighboring provinces. It takes more than ten hours to travel by car, and you have to transfer in between. The journey is long and troublesome.

The bus departed before 5 a.m., stopped at a service area once, and then drove on the highway the whole time.

They finally arrived at the station and began their first transfer. It was already noon, and the next bus wouldn't depart until 1:30 PM. Lu Ying and the others found a place to rest at the station.

With a long drive ahead in the afternoon, the group took advantage of the break time to replenish their energy.

There was a small restaurant right outside the station. Just as Lu Ying was about to take her two children out of the station to have a hot meal, Liu Fengming hurriedly stopped her, took out two packets of instant noodles from his bag, and handed them to Lu Chuqing with a smile.

"Qingqing must be starving after such a long drive. Dad bought your favorite instant noodles. Open it and eat!"

When children are young, they like to eat unhealthy things. Lu Chuqing especially loved instant noodles back then.

Anyway, she was really craving food back then, and she didn't eat properly. But Lu Ying was worried that eating too much would be bad for her, so she controlled the amount and only let her eat it once or twice a week.

One time, when it was finally time to eat instant noodles, Lu Ying forgot that she didn't have any at home. She was cooking at the time, so she asked Liu Fengming, who was lying on the bed playing on his phone, to go to the convenience store to buy two packs.

It took several reminders before the man responded, and he took his phone to a small shop in the next alley to buy it.

When it came time to pay, all I found were a 50-cent note and a 20-cent note, not even enough for a whole pack!

I argued with that old man in his seventies or eighties for a long time, and in the end, amidst the old man's curses, I shamelessly bought a pack for seven cents and took it home.

As soon as he entered, he pointed at Lu Chuqing and yelled, "Eat, eat, eat! All you know is how to eat! You don't know how to make money, all you know is how to spend it!"

The person was pointing at Lu Chuqing, but the words were being spoken to Lu Ying.

The woman's face immediately darkened as she looked at Liu Fengming and said, "Is it really that big of a deal for just a packet of instant noodles? Our daughter wants to eat it, so what if she eats it once a week? It's only one yuan, why are you being so fierce?!"

"One yuan isn't money?! One yuan a week, that's four yuan a month! Almost fifty yuan a year! Just eating instant noodles alone costs fifty yuan a year, and if you add other things, the little money I earn isn't even enough to buy her snacks! And you still have the nerve to say it's worth it?"

Lu Ying was thoroughly angered by his words and retorted coldly, "Then why don't you ask yourself why you can't even earn enough money to buy your daughter a snack?"

"You still have the nerve to say you make money? Where is the money you've made? Have you ever given it to me?"

“If I didn’t keep pestering you for living expenses, would you have given it to me willingly? I’ve been pestering you for three or four months and you only gave me 500 yuan. I can earn 1,600 yuan a month by taking Jingjing to work!”

"You, a man who only makes money, have the nerve to say you make money! All the money you earn probably goes to those shameless women outside!"

"..."

Lu Chuqing was terrified at the time, not knowing why her parents were arguing over a packet of instant noodles.

Because of that incident, she never again offered to eat instant noodles.

Now, seeing the instant noodles that the man was trying to please her with, Lu Chuqing's eyes showed undisguised disgust.

She pushed the instant noodles away and looked at Liu Fengming coldly, "I don't eat this junk food."

As she spoke, she took Lu Ying's hand and said softly and coquettishly, "Mommy, Qingqing wants to eat wontons. Shall we go eat wontons?"

Lu Ying smiled gently at her, her eyes full of affection, "Okay, Qingqing must be tired from the car ride, have something hot to warm your stomach."

Then she looked at Liu Fengming, whose face was pale, and said, "Keep the instant noodles for yourself. Qingqing has been in the car for so long, eating this dry stuff won't be good for her stomach. I'll take her out to eat, so you don't need to come with us."

They kept their distance from Liu Fengming while on the bus. There was still a long time before the next bus, and she didn't want to be bothered by Liu Fengming during that time.

The man was repeatedly slapped in the face, and his face turned very gloomy.

Seeing Lu Chengyang blocking the mother and daughter, he was afraid that if he really angered Lu Chuqing, she would not go back to her hometown with him, so he could only force a smile.

"You're right, I didn't think it through. Qingqing's health is the most important thing. You should take her to eat wontons!"

To please Lu Chuqing, Liu Fengming also started calling her Qingqing.

As he spoke, he waved the instant noodles in his hand, "Since I've already bought them, it'll be a waste not to eat them. You guys go eat and don't worry about me, I'll just eat these!"

Then I actually found a seat nearby, and as soon as I sat down, I crushed the flatbread.

Lu Chengyang couldn't help but mutter under his breath, "Who said I was going to bring you food? How can you be so shameless..."

There was a Shaxian snack shop near the station entrance, and Lu Ying took her two children there to eat wontons.

The owner had put a small TV inside. Since it was still early and they didn't want to see Liu Fengming, the two kids and one adult leisurely ate their wontons while watching TV.

Liu Fengming hadn't eaten anything that morning, and after such a long car ride, he was already hungry and uncomfortable. He finished a pack of instant noodles but hadn't recovered yet, so he ate another pack as well.

I only felt thirsty after finishing the food, and when I wanted to drink some water, I realized I didn't bring a water bottle. Buying water would cost money.

He searched all his friends and finally managed to borrow 500 yuan to go home; he really had to plan every penny carefully.

After thinking about it, he had no choice but to endure it, thinking that he would wait until Lu Ying and the others finished eating and come back, then he could plead with his daughter to get some water.

After waiting for almost half an hour, no one had returned!

It was almost one o'clock, and more than forty minutes had passed since Lu Ying and the others left. If they had run, they would have already been on the highway by now!

Liu Fengming immediately picked up his bag and walked out of the station, looking at each of the small restaurants outside. Finally, he saw three people leisurely watching TV inside a Shaxian snack shop, which was a little further away, through its glass door.

It was midday, and the shop owner was very generous, turning on the air conditioning.

Enjoying a hot and fragrant meal, feeling the cool comfort of air conditioning, and leisurely watching TV while chatting and laughing.

In contrast, he endured the stuffy heat in the old train station, where there wasn't even a fan, eating dry, hard instant noodles, and not even having a sip of water.

In order to coax Lu Chuqing back, he deliberately got soaked in the rain and knelt down to her, trying his best to please her along the way.

As a result, not only did Lu Ying dislike him, but her own daughter also ignored him.

They lost face and gained nothing.

Liu Fengming's anger and resentment reached their peak instantly, and without thinking, he was about to push the door open and go in.

The shop owner handed Lu Ying a package of wontons. The woman got up, took the package, and walked out with her two children.

Her gaze fell on Liu Fengming, who had come looking for her. Without changing her expression, she pushed open the door and handed him the wontons in her hand. "Here, have some."

At this moment, Liu Fengming felt that this was a blatant humiliation, and his expression changed as he tried to push the woman's hand away.

Then the woman said, "We've known each other for a while now. Even though you're not a good man, you did buy me food in the rain when we first met. That's how I repay that kindness."

Liu Fengming was completely stunned.
