Chapter 29 The Second Uncle's Family

On August 26th, Lu Chuqing learned from Lu Ying that her second uncle, Lu Hang, who was doing business in the provincial capital, was coming back.

She racked her brains but still couldn't remember what her second uncle looked like. However, she was about to meet him, so she didn't dwell on it too much.

The day before, Lu Yongkang received a call from Lu Hang, who said that he had been busy recently, but had managed to find some free time and brought Lu Linqi and the family back to visit.

The old man was naturally delighted and began preparations that very day.

They were airing out the quilts and tidying the rooms, fishing, killing chickens and geese, and the butcher cutting off 10 or 20 pounds of meat and chopping up half a rack of ribs while walking around the village.

The Lu family has never been poor, and even now, there are other families in the village who are even wealthier.

It's possible that the Lu family had the same financial situation twenty years ago, and it still has the same financial situation now. Therefore, some people believe that over the years, the Lu family has actually accumulated a lot of wealth.

People perceive them as wealthy but not ostentatious.

Keep a low profile.

In reality, the old man didn't prepare that much stuff. After all, with so many people in his family, this amount of food would only last for three days at most.

Lu Hang rarely came back to the city, and his wife, Zhang Qiaoyu, was from the provincial capital, so they couldn't treat her unfairly.

When the sun wasn't too strong in the morning, Lu Chengyang led her to the vegetable garden to help her grandmother, Cai Min, pick vegetables.

The small vegetable garden in the yard is not planted much. Usually, when there is no time to go to the field to pick vegetables, we pick them in the yard to eat.

If you don't pick them for a day or two, the vegetables in the field garden will yield a bountiful harvest.

Lu Chuqing carried the loofahs in bunches. Although she now says she can carry three at a time, she still carried them back and forth about ten times, filling the small basket she brought with loofahs.

Then came the long green beans, the short string beans, and the green-purple broad beans.

Then there were green eggplants, purple round eggplants, and purple long eggplants. Non-spicy bell peppers, spicy pointed peppers, red bird's eye chilies, all kinds of green vegetables, all kinds of melons... In the end, Lu Chuqing was so tired that she collapsed to the ground.

She had picked vegetables in the garden many times in her past life, but she was never this tired today.

Grandma saw that her little face was red from all the work and felt sorry for her. She made her sit on the edge of the vegetable garden, picked a melon, wiped it clean on her clothes, broke it in half, gave her most of it, and gave the rest to Lu Chengyang.

It was already late when they got back. Lu Chuqing hadn't finished her half-eaten melon, and the seeds were all over her face. Before they even reached the door, they could hear that the yard was quite lively.

She looked in the direction of the sound and saw a slightly worn van parked outside the gate. A well-dressed woman was talking to Chai Shuhua through the open door.

When Cai Min saw Zhang Qiaoyu, she immediately exclaimed "Oh!" in such an exaggerated way that it startled Lu Chuqing.

"You said you'd be home by noon, how come you're back so quickly!" The old woman said with a big smile, hurrying into the yard.

Lu Chengyang was carrying a full basket and couldn't hold the little dumpling. He urged her, "Hurry up, your second uncle is back!"

As he spoke, he freed one hand and grabbed her little arm, pulling her into the yard.

Hearing the noise, Zhang Qiaoyu turned around and saw Cai Min's arm full of baskets. A look of surprise appeared on her face. "Why did you pick so many vegetables! Can you finish them all?"

Chai Shuhua had already stepped forward to help put the basket on the ground. Cai Min said with a smile, "There are so many people in our family, and we've even brought you some from the city. It's not much, it's not much!"

Zhang Qiaoyu frowned. "You can buy them in the city. It's inconvenient to bring them back and forth. It's not good to have free time. You'll be tired after working for half a day."

As soon as Lu Chuqing stepped into the courtyard, she heard these words. Although the tone was not harsh, the words were really unpleasant to hear.

Turning to look at his grandmother, the old woman's smile visibly faded.

Just then, two people came from the small staircase on the west side of the outer wall. The man in front said from across most of the yard, "Mom, Xiaoyu is worried about you!"

“It’s so hot to pick vegetables, and it’s tiring to bring so many back. The city has everything, so you don’t need to work so hard for us!”

The man was wearing a short-sleeved sports shirt and matching sports pants, with slippers on his feet, and his hair was still wet, clearly indicating that he had just taken a shower.

Lu Jun gives the impression of being a rough and tough guy.

Lu Hang is the type of gentle and refined gentleman.

At least that's what Lu Chuqing thinks.

Although the two uncles look almost identical, their overall demeanor and the feeling they give off are completely different.

The man was tall with long legs. He walked a few steps to the bottom of the flat building, a gentle smile on his face.

Lu Chengyang smiled and called out to the man, "Second Uncle!"

Lu Hang immediately responded, "Cheng Yang has grown taller again! In two more years he'll be taller than Second Uncle!"

The man raised his hand and patted the boy's shoulder. When the two stood together, Lu Chengyang was already taller than the man's shoulder.

The men in the Lu family are all tall. Even though Lu Yongkang is old and has a hunchback, he is still quite tall. Lu Jun, judging from Lu Chuqing's appearance, is over 1.85 meters tall, and Lu Hang looks about the same height as Lu Jun.

When Lu Chengyang arrived, the young boy hadn't even started his growth spurt yet. Once he did, he'd probably be taller than Lu Jun.

Chai Shuhua chimed in half-jokingly, "He's so tall, but he doesn't look steady at all. He's always so reckless! Unlike Linqi, who seems like the kind of kid who doesn't cause any trouble."

When praised for her son, Zhang Qiaoyu's face showed a hint of pride, and she said generously, "You know, my Linqi really hasn't given me any trouble, but he's a bit too quiet. If he were half as lively as your Chengyang, I wouldn't always worry that he'd get sick from being cooped up."

The boy following behind Lu Hang walked over, stood behind Zhang Qiaoyu, and said with a disgusted expression, "They're all so childish, I can't be bothered with them."

The "they" he was referring to were children of the same age in the neighborhood of the provincial capital.
