Chapter 52 Reunion

Lu Hang did not return on the 24th.

Twenty-five, still no reply.

I called to inquire, and all I got was the same answer—

The snow was too heavy, and the train still couldn't move.

The evening news also reported that some areas in northern China experienced continuous heavy snowfall, forcing traffic to stop.

They didn't seem to be in a hurry, but actually the whole family was a little worried, especially the two elderly people.

They said the road would be passable once the snow stopped and the road was cleared, but we've been waiting and waiting and it's still impassable.

Before we knew it, it was the 28th of the lunar calendar, and we were already one foot in the door of the Spring Festival.

It was getting late. Lu Yongkang had a cigarette in his mouth, his brows furrowed involuntarily, as he chopped lamb ribs with a swift, precise motion.

I slaughtered two sheep a few days ago. Besides giving them as gifts, the rest will be used for both myself and guests. The Lunar New Year is in two days, so I'm planning to have a mutton hot pot tonight to warm myself up.

As he was chopping bones, his cell phone rang in his pocket. The old man took it out and saw that it was his second son, Lu Hang.

Before he could answer, the other party hung up. Then Lu Jun came out of the room, putting on his hat and gloves.

He called out to the old man, "Qiaoyu just called and said they've arrived at the station. I'm going to pick them up now."

Lu Yongkang pulled out his cigarette, stomped it out, and his furrowed brows relaxed. "You're back so soon! Okay, okay, go pick them up, you'll be back just in time for dinner!"

As he spoke, the old man turned to go back to the kitchen to continue his work, but soon turned back and said, "The road is slippery, be careful!"

Lu Jun was happy that the family could be reunited, and his face relaxed as he said, "I know!"

Just as we were about to leave, the adults and two children who were watching TV upstairs ran down the stairs. Lu Chengyang, who was in front, shouted, "Dad! We want to go too! We want to go too!"

Although it wasn't snowing, it was still cold. Sitting on the uncovered motorcycle tricycle was unbearably cold, so the man immediately refused.

"No, it's too cold. You stay home with your younger siblings."

As a result, none of the three children heard what he said. They squeezed past him one after another, quickly climbed into the carriage, sat down, and stared at him, waiting for departure.

Lu Yongkang smiled, his face creased with wrinkles. "Alright, let them go if they want!"

"Chengyang, do you keep a close eye on Qingqing and Linqi? If you're carrying them, it'll be freezing cold when the car is moving!"

The boy, with one on each arm, shouted, "I understand!"

Then they all looked at each other, raised their right hands, and shouted in unison, "Let's go!"

The man driving in front smirked and shouted in unison, "Sit tight! Let's go!"

The motor roared as the wheels rolled over the snow, leaving three winding curves in their wake.

When I arrived, it was already completely dark, and the warm yellow lights in the train station illuminated the entire area.

Lu Linqi spotted his parents at a glance and ran towards them, calling out, "Dad! Mom!"

The snow was slippery, and Lu Jun called out from behind, "Slow down!"

Lu Chengyang pulled Lu Chuqing along and ran over, calling out, "Second Uncle! Second Aunt!"

"Second Uncle, Second Aunt!"

Lu Hang and Zhang Qiaoyu responded with smiles on their faces.

The man patted his son on the shoulder, glanced at him, and said, "You've grown taller!"

Lu Linqi replied matter-of-factly, "It's been half a year, it must have grown."

Zhang Qiaoyu couldn't wait to hug her son, whom she hadn't seen for half a year, and carefully looked at the boy's eyebrows and eyes. "He's gotten a little darker and a little fatter."

Lu Linqi raised his hand to wipe away the tears from the woman's eyes, a slight smile curving his lips. "Mom has become even more beautiful."

Lu Jun came over and helped carry the luggage, saying, "It's cold, let's go back first. Once we're home and warm up, we'll have time to catch up."

"Hmm, I checked the weather, it's still snowing around 7 or 8 o'clock, let's go home first."

As Lu Hang spoke, he called to the whole family, young and old, and the group walked toward the tricycle parked by the roadside.

An old man selling candied hawthorns by the roadside hadn't packed up yet. Lu Chuqing's eyes lingered for a moment, and the two boys beside her noticed instantly and spoke up almost simultaneously.

Lu Chengyang: "Dad, I'm going to buy a candied hawthorn."

Lu Linqi: "Mom and Dad, I want to go buy candied hawthorns."

Lu Chuqing stared wide-eyed and whispered, "I want to eat candied hawthorns too..."

The three adults exchanged a smile, and Lu Hang led the three children over there, saying, "Come on! I'll take you to buy candied hawthorns!"

There were still six candied hawthorn skewers left, and Lu Hang bought them all. He even told the old man that it would snow around 7 o'clock and that he should go home early.

The old man smiled and thanked him, carefully wrapped the bright red candied hawthorn in glutinous rice paper, put it in a paper bag, and handed it to the man.

Lu Hang gave each child a skewer, then, carrying the remaining candied hawthorns, escorted them to the tricycle and handed the bag to Zhang Qiaoyu, who was already on the vehicle.

"I also brought you a skewer. Take those two back to your sister-in-law and younger sister."

The woman was dressed rather thinly and was shivering from the cold. "Let's go back first, it's really cold outside."

After everyone was seated, Lu Jun started the car and drove out of the city. The cold wind blew up and down, making the three children scream.

Most of them did it on purpose, which enlivened the three adults, and they chatted and laughed all the way home.

As soon as the car stopped at the door, everyone in the family came out to greet us. It was a lively scene, and we didn't know who to respond to. In the end, we could only shake hands and help each other into the house.

Two days ago, Lu Jun bought a new pot that can cook two dishes at once, so you can eat both spicy and non-spicy food at the same time.

Half of the pot was filled with bright red lamb spine hot pot, and the other half was filled with white radish and lamb rib hot pot.

All of them are pressure cooked, resulting in tender meat and a rich broth.

Especially the white radish and lamb rib soup; a bowl of it warms you right up.

Lu Chuqing was made to drink a small bowl of mutton soup by Lu Ying. Almost as soon as she finished drinking it, she started sweating. Only after repeated requests did the woman agree to take off her outer coat.

The adults were all sweating as they ate, and they took off their outer coats, chatting and laughing as they enjoyed this moment of reunion.

Lu Chuqing was gnawing on the last piece of lamb rib in her bowl, ready to stop eating after she finished, when Lu Chengyang grabbed her by the armpits and carried her away.

"Let's go! Let's go upstairs to watch the fireworks!"

As the Lunar New Year approaches, some families are already setting off fireworks every night.

The adults hadn't finished eating yet, and the Lu family was going to set off fireworks for a while after they did.

Before setting off fireworks at home, I went upstairs to check out the other people's houses.

Because she was taken away, she wasn't wearing a padded jacket, just a turtleneck sweater.

With a bone still in her mouth, she was taken upstairs and placed on a stool in front of the railing so she could watch the fireworks.
