Chapter 98 Meeting the Elders

Lu Hang's expression wasn't much better. "Xiao Ying, we're not trying to criticize you, but think about it, he doesn't have much savings, so the card is pretty useless. It's fine for you to keep it for him."

Lu Ying now understands that everything she says sounds like she's a hopelessly infatuated woman, completely blinded by love.

Instead of explaining, he simply took out his phone and called Xi Jun, saying, "No matter what I say, it'll sound like I'm out of my mind. Let him come over, and you can see for yourselves."

Xi Jun had been working late the past two days and was on her day off today. She had just arrived home when she received Lu Ying's call.

Upon hearing the woman say that her family wanted to see him, his fatigue and drowsiness vanished instantly, and he even started stammering.

"Now??"

It wasn't even noon yet, and Xi Jun immediately asked, "Should I...should I book a restaurant?"

When Lu Ying said she was going to call him, Lu Jun had a dark expression and told her to put the phone on speakerphone, so the whole room could hear the man's stuttering.

Upon hearing this, Lu Yongkang immediately gave him a "I knew this guy was no good" look; he even stuttered!

Lu Ying wanted to say something in defense of the man, but then she heard him say, "Should I dress more formally for the first time I meet your parents?"

"Oh, and one more thing! Are there any rules or etiquette for meeting someone for the first time in your hometown? What should I prepare?"

Xi Jun's mind was also buzzing. When she heard that she was going to meet Lu Ying's parents, she was so nervous that she didn't know what to do. She stammered one sentence after another, and Lu Ying couldn't get a word in edgewise.

She had barely finished speaking when she remembered something and hurriedly asked the person on the other end of the phone, "Do I need to bring my household registration booklet? And my ID card, all of these..."

Lu Chuqing had seen Xi Jun stutter when he was nervous before, and upon hearing this, she immediately pictured the man with red ears, so nervous that he was stuttering helplessly. She desperately tried to suppress a smile.

Who hands over their household registration book and ID card when meeting their parents for the first time?

Sure enough, the three men were speechless upon hearing this.

Lu Ying also felt embarrassed and quickly took out her phone, saying, "You don't need to bring your household registration book or ID card. Just come over quickly, and I'll send you the address."

She hung up the phone as soon as she finished speaking, afraid that the man might say something else surprising.

After hanging up the phone, Xi Jun got busy.

I originally just wanted to shave quickly, but when I saw that my hair was greasy from working overtime, I quickly washed it too.

After washing my hair and getting ready to change, I smelled a faint sour smell of sweat on my clothes, so I quickly took another shower.

Finally, seeing that six minutes had passed, and worried that Lu Ying was getting impatient, he hurriedly changed his clothes and went out.

Security in the villa area is very good; strangers are not allowed to enter.

Several men, intent on making things difficult for Xi Jun, deliberately prevented Uncle Wang from informing the gatekeeper.

When the man arrived at the entrance of the residential area, he was stopped and not allowed to enter. He understood that such high-end residential areas were strictly managed, so he called Lu Ying to explain his situation.

Knowing that her father and brother were doing this on purpose and that she definitely wouldn't be able to get out, Lu Ying had no choice but to ask Xi Jun to give the phone to the gatekeeper.

After explaining the situation, the security guard still allowed Xi Jun to leave her information before letting her in.

The residential area was large, and there were signs along the road. Xi Jun found the place by following the signs, looked at the empty front yard, and rang the doorbell.

The person who came out to open the door was Aunt Liu, who often came to clean and cook. It was only because the whole family had come that she didn't leave so early.

When Aunt Liu saw the man outside the gate, she was startled and hurriedly ran to open the gate for him.

Xi Jun smiled and thanked her, then followed her toward the gate.

Lu Ying felt that the three men were going too far. Even if they wanted to put pressure on her, they shouldn't have done it like that. They were already at her doorstep and no one came to greet her.

Ignoring the grim expressions on his two older brothers' faces, he got up and walked to the front door.

Before they even reached the door, they were startled by the man behind Aunt Liu.

The man was carrying large and small boxes in both hands, and three or four more boxes in front of him, making it difficult to even see his face.

Even if the three men wanted to put pressure on her, they were all caught off guard by Xi Jun's appearance.

Lu Yongkang even stood up to lend a hand, but then, remembering something, he winked at Lu Linqi beside him and remained standing still.

There was also a cleaning lady in the house, and several people came forward to help take the things from her.

"I told you to just come earlier, why did you bring so much stuff? It's not even close to here from the entrance of the community!"

Xi Jun was sweating profusely from the heat, and her face was red, whether from the sun or from exhaustion, it was hard to tell.

Upon hearing the woman's words, his eyes were glued to her, and a smile involuntarily crept onto his lips. "It's not far. I just thought that since it was my first time meeting your family, I couldn't come empty-handed. I didn't know the customs of your hometown, so I bought some gifts according to the provincial capital's traditions."

Lu Ying couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache. She grabbed the man's hand and rubbed the red marks left by the straps. "Why didn't you say you were carrying something when you were at the gate? You could have asked someone to help you carry it."

Knowing that the woman was worried about him, Xi Jun's heart softened. "It's not much. I just bought a few things in a hurry because I was afraid your family would be waiting."

The two held hands, looking at each other with eyes that seemed to be locked in a longing gaze.

It was only after Lu Yongkang coughed twice that the atmosphere was broken, and the two of them came to their senses and temporarily let go of each other's hands.

Lu Ying briefly told Xi Jun about her family situation, and now she saw men sitting on the sofas at both ends and an old man standing in the middle.

He first bowed to Lu Yongkang and said, "Uncle, hello."

Then Lu Jun and Lu Hang called out, "Big Brother, Second Brother."

The two men remained silent, seemingly unwilling to acknowledge him.

Xi Jun was not angry at all; instead, she felt guilty and bowed to Lu Yongkang again, saying, "Uncle, my surname is Xi and my name is Xi Jun."

"It was my fault for being impolite. I should have visited you and your two elder brothers first, but I made you wait for so long. I am truly sorry."

Lu Yongkang had never seen anyone bow so many times to him before, and he was speechless because of Xi Jun's gesture.

Besides, they hadn't intended to see him in the first place, so it was a bit unfair to suddenly call him over. If there was anything wrong, it was on their side, not Xi Jun's.

Although they both initially wanted Lu Ying to break up with him.

"Well, it's nothing, I just heard Xiaoying mention you and thought I'd like to learn more about you."

The old man felt embarrassed; both of his sons had sour faces and didn't say a word, leaving him, the old man, with this task.

He didn't want to talk to the man who had taken his daughter away!

Xi Jun stood properly, his posture upright, a gentle smile on his face, and his eyes firm and open. "Uncle, please ask me anything you want to know, and I will answer you truthfully."
