Lu Linqi looked at the two people playing and laughing by the well, a hint of envy flashing in his eyes, but then he turned his head away and pretended not to see them.
Hmph! How old are you to still be playing in the water? How childish!
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Lu Ying wanted to go see Lu Chuqing when the little dumpling came running over and jumped into her arms.
"Mommy~ Mommy~ Qingqing misses you so much~"
The little dumpling, its face still wet, rubbed against the woman's neck, making Lu Ying giggle.
"With so many people watching, Qingqing is still acting cute. Aren't you ashamed?"
The elders all laughed along, but Lu Linqi snorted softly, "Only children like to act cute! How childish!"
Although her voice was drowned out by the adults' laughter, Lu Chuqing still heard it.
She shouldn't argue with a real child, but she couldn't stand being disliked for no reason.
So she completely blacked out Lu Linqi in her mind, not even glancing at him, and continued to hum and whine while hugging Lu Ying.
The woman noticed that her clothes were wet, and upon closer inspection, they were filthy. After greeting her, she carried her upstairs to take a bath.
After taking a shower, Lu Chuqing looked at her hair, which was almost covering her eyes, in the mirror and said to Lu Ying, "Mom, my hair has grown long again."
The woman looked at it and saw that the bangs in front were almost covering her eyes. She brushed them aside a couple of times and said, "It really is. Tomorrow is Sunday, so Mom will take you to get a haircut."
To everyone's surprise, the little girl frowned and objected, "Mommy, I don't want to cut my hair short anymore. I want to have long hair like the Little Dragon Girl and be a fairy!"
In her previous life, after she arrived at the Liu family, as soon as Liu Fengming left, Old Man Liu took scissors and cut her mushroom-shaped hair into an even shorter short haircut.
Not only was it short, but it was also cut unevenly and looked terrible. When she went to school, the other kids laughed at her, saying she had a dog-chewed head. They ostracized her, wouldn't play with her, and even pushed her when they lined up to go home.
After she was in second grade, she grew her hair long because long hair could be sold for money. Old Liu sold the hair that had finally grown to her shoulders.
The man who came to collect her hair used a razor blade to cut it off right at the roots, leaving her almost bald, with hair even shorter than her cousin's.
Lu Chuqing had long wanted to tell Lu Ying to grow her hair long, to make up for the regret of having grown her hair long during her childhood in her previous life.
Hearing what the little dumpling said, Lu Ying couldn't help but laugh, "My darling is so vain!"
The woman pinched her chubby cheek and replied affectionately, "Okay, if Qingqing wants to grow her hair long, then she can grow it long."
"But Mommy can tell Qingqing first that washing long hair is not as convenient as washing your short hair now. Has Qingqing thought it through?"
Lu Chuqing thought to herself, "It's just washing my hair, what's so unacceptable about that?"
But she still looked thoughtful before speaking, "Yes, Qingqing understands. Qingqing still wants to grow her hair long!"
"Okay! Then let your hair grow long." Lu Yingci lovingly touched the top of her head. "But if the hair in the front is too long, it will be too eye-catching, so you still need to cut your bangs."
"Okay!" the little dumpling replied happily.
When they went downstairs, the kitchen was already busy cooking. Chai Shuhua and Zhang Qiaoyu were talking, Lu Chengyang was pressing water to wash mangoes for Lu Hang, and Lu Linqi was standing under the eaves watching.
Hearing footsteps, I turned my head to look at the main staircase at the back of the building.
A woman wearing a light green shirt dress was holding a small baby in her arms, dressed in a matching tulle skirt.
The little dumpling wore a light pink hair clip, and her bangs were swept to one side, revealing her fair and round little face.
The sunlight shone on my body, coating my exposed skin with a golden glow, making my fair skin glow.
Lu Hang saw the two of them and called out, "I was just about to call Qingqing, but she came downstairs. Your second uncle will cut you some mangoes!"
Mangoes are available in fruit shops in the city, but they are a bit expensive, and the Lu family, being well-off, has never bought them.
Besides, I still have a few fruit trees from the years I planted. They have common seasonal fruits like peaches, pears, grapes, and figs. We can't finish them all when the season comes, so I've hardly ever spent money on fruit.
So Lu Chengyang was also a little curious about what mangoes actually tasted like.
When asked how to eat this, Lu Linqi, who was standing next to him, said sarcastically, "How else can you eat it? With your mouth!"
Even though Lu Hang immediately criticized him, Lu Chengyang was still a little unhappy.
Lu Hang's family rarely came back to begin with, and he wasn't very familiar with Lu Linqi. But this cousin was just like his mother, even more unpleasant to talk to. Every time he came back, he would grumble and complain, as if living in the provincial capital made him superior. He simply didn't like it.
If we weren't family, he wouldn't bother with him at all.
Upon hearing Lu Hang speak so kindly to Lu Chuqing, Lu Linqi began to mutter again, "Does she even know what a mango is?"
Hearing this, Lu Ying smiled and looked at him, "My little sister is still too young to know what a mango is. Why don't you teach her how to recognize a mango, Linqi?"
Lu Hang frowned and scoffed, "Lu Linqi, I've never seen you talk so much before. Go get a knife from your grandma!"
The boy snorted and reluctantly went to the kitchen, emerging a short while later with a knife and a stainless steel plate.
"There are no fruit knives, only vegetable knives."
When Lu Hang took it, he started muttering again, "It smells strongly of garlic."
Lu Chengyang even rolled his eyes, which was uncharacteristic of him.
The man cut the mango in half, then made several crisscross cuts on the seedless half. With a flick of his finger, the flesh split open, revealing small, square pieces that were easy to eat.
Lu Hang smiled and handed the sliced mango to Lu Chuqing, but the little girl, with her hands behind her back, refused to take it, saying, "No, I don't eat mango."
Even Lu Ying was taken aback by her. "What's wrong, Qingqing? Your second uncle is giving you mangoes. It's not very polite of you to act like this."
