Chapter 81 Palace Search

Concubine Xue was lost in thought. Last year, her father was impeached and demoted from the second rank to the fifth rank. She felt a sense of crisis and had to hold on tightly to a big tree in the palace. She had tried to please Concubine Liang, but was treated coldly. In the end, she secretly turned to Concubine Shu.

Outsiders all said that Sheng Xiuyuan came from Prince E's Mansion and must be of the same faction as Concubine Shu. However, Concubine Xue knew that Concubine Shu was angry that Sheng Xiyan was disobedient and disliked her very much.

If Sheng Xiyan is eliminated, Concubine Shu will definitely promote her to a higher position.

"Sister Dun, if this is true, reporting it to the Emperor would be a great achievement. Come with me to the Yangxin Palace."

Dun Guiyuan hesitated for a moment, then agreed, "Okay, let's go together."

The two went to the Yangxin Palace, each with their own thoughts in their minds. Concubine Xue insisted on taking Dun Shuyuan with her, while Dun Guiyuan was thinking of finding an excuse to run away.

In Guanju Palace, when Sheng Xiyan returned, she found that Jiang Jiang had already returned.

Aunt Zhang said, "My lady, the young master was thinking about playing with cats, so he came back early."

"It's good that he's back. It's too hot outside. I was worried he might get heatstroke."

In the inner hall, Hua Xia poured cold tea and asked in a doubtful voice, "My lady, are you telling the truth? Did the emperor really make a few mistakes?"

She knew that Sheng Xiyan was a disciple of the world-famous Master Yu. When Master Yu was injured, he was taken home by Sheng Jingheng. During the months of treatment, he accepted Sheng Xiyan as his apprentice and taught her chess and jade flute.

Later, when Master Yu left, Sheng Xiyan was crying secretly.

Actually, he was the first adult man the young lady knew. He was very handsome and had the aura of a banished immortal.

Sheng Xiyan drank the fruit tea in one gulp and said with a smile, "The emperor wants to suppress me, so I will make him angry for a while."

"My lady, you are too bold. What if the emperor gets angry and banishes you to the cold palace?"

Sheng Xiyan sat down next to Bing Jian. "It's better to let the emperor be emotional than to remain as still as a pool of stagnant water. I guess Dun Guiyuan should take action now."

Meixiang came in and whispered, "Don't worry, my lady, everything is ready."

In the Yangxin Palace, the chief musician of the Pear Garden was quickly brought in by the imperial guards.

Xuan Ling read the memorials in front of the dragon desk and put one down after a long time.

Now that he had recovered his composure, what was he arguing with Sheng Xiyan about? There was no big difference between a few wrong notes and none at all.

He plays the xiao just to express his emotions, nothing else.

"I'm fine, please leave."

The opera master was confused and left the Yangxin Palace.

The imperial attendant came in and said, "Your Majesty, Concubine Xue said she has something important to discuss with you."

"Let her in."

Xue Jieyu walked in, and Dun Guiyuan escaped halfway behind her.

"Your Majesty, your concubine, pays homage."

"You are the champion today. I asked you to turn back halfway, but you have a complaint and want to seek an explanation?"

Concubine Xue knelt down and saluted:

"I dare not, but there is one thing I must tell His Majesty, so that I may know the truth. Because I love His Majesty so much, I cannot bear to see His Majesty deceived and misled by others."

Xuan Ling closed the report and asked coldly, "What is it? Tell me directly."

Xue Jieyu looked back and saw that Dun Guiyuan had not followed her in. She was in a dilemma and could only bite the bullet and say:

"Your Majesty, I learned from Dun Guiyuan that Sheng Xiuyuan secretly held a memorial service for her late husband, General Qi, in Guanju Palace, and even left a memorial tablet there!"

Xuan Ling's eyes narrowed, "Where is Dun Guiyuan? Why didn't she tell us what she discovered?"

Concubine Xue said aggrievedly, "I don't know either. She clearly came here with me just now."

Xuan Ling pondered for a moment, then stood up and said, "Gather ten imperial guards and follow me to Guanju Palace."

The ten imperial guards are not a big force and will not cause unrest in the palace.

When the imperial carriage arrived at Guanju Palace, Concubine Xue saw that the door of the side hall was closed. She thought, "You are so good, Dun Guiyuan, you have cleared yourself of any wrongdoing."

When she dodged, Concubine Xue felt a little worried. Could the information be false?

I hurriedly followed Xuan Ling. Just as I reached the main hall door, Xuan Ling stopped and said, "You wait here. You don't need to go in."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Concubine Xue was terrified.

Although ten imperial guards came to search the palace, Emperor Xuanwu usually brought eight personal guards with him for personal protection when he went out. When this group of people walked into the courtyard, it was quite a big scene.

Xuan Ling walked in, watching to see if Jiang Jiang was there, making sure not to scare the child.

Jiang ran out from the corner of the small kitchen, holding the little black cat in his arms.

"Father!"

The little guy was so excited that he had no idea what was going on and was talking and laughing all the time.

"Father, meow."

Xuan Ling patted his head and coaxed him, "General, have the guards take you to the east woods to collect bird eggs. Father just came over and saw there are a lot of them."

"Great! Let's go get the bird eggs!"

Jiang Jiang handed the little black cat to Xiao Zhuozi and was carried out by a guard of the imperial army.

Xuan Ling didn't believe that Sheng Xiyan would set up a tablet to commemorate Qi Yan. She still had some sense of propriety, but she didn't find the portrait that day. Would she be able to find it if she searched today?

The palace servants serving inside and outside the hall hurriedly put down their work and knelt on the ground in panic.

Sheng Xiyan walked out of the hall and saw Xuan Ling standing in the courtyard with a solemn expression, flanked by a large crowd of imperial guards.

"Your Majesty, your concubine, pays homage."

She bowed and knelt on the ground.

Xuan Ling's eyes were cold and stern. He waved his hand and the guards separated and began searching inside and outside the hall.

Xuan Ling looked at Sheng Xiyan. She was kneeling with her head down, and didn't even ask him why he brought people here.

In the side hall separated by a wall, Dun Guiyuan stepped on two stacked chairs to watch the fun.

"I must see how Sheng Xiyan died!"

"Master, be careful."
