Xuan Ling thought about when he was unconscious and the Empress Dowager sent someone to sentence Sheng Xiyan to death.
His heart suddenly tightened, and he said guiltily, "Yan Yan, it's my fault for frightening you."
Sheng Xiyan said softly, "Don't blame the emperor. In the end, you saved me."
Xuan Ling held her in his arms lovingly, kissed her plump forehead, and whispered softly:
"Any harm you suffer is due to my failure to protect you.
I know very well that you are worried that someone will harm you. In that case, I will do as you wish.
I have announced to the public that you are determined not to return to the palace with me, so I have sent you back to the temple to practice meditation and pray for our dynasty.
At the same time, I will dispatch twenty elite shadow guards to secretly protect you and ensure that you are absolutely safe."
Sheng Xiyan snuggled into the warm embrace like a little bird, and thanked her tenderly, "Xuanlang is so kind."
The two of them lay down in each other's arms, holding each other tightly.
One needed to recuperate, and the other needed to take care of the fetus. Soon, both of them fell into drowsiness and fell into a deep sleep.
Until nightfall.
The candle wick "popped" and sparks flew out. Xuan Ling's fingertips brushed across the red mark on Sheng Xiyan's neck, which was the mark left by the passion in the early morning.
"I have drafted an order to send you to Hanyu Temple tomorrow."
His voice trembled at the end, and he bit his round earlobe with his pearly teeth and rubbed it.
"But you must have your shadow guard bring me a letter every two days. If one is missing..."
"What does the Emperor want?"
Sheng Xiyan deliberately tilted her neck back to reveal more of her fair skin.
Xuan Ling's Adam's apple rolled, and he suddenly pinched her waist and pressed her down on the couch:
"I demolished the Marquis's bamboo garden and carved the word 'Yan' on each bamboo."
It pressed down on her lower abdomen, and Sheng Xiyan was so frightened that she protected her pregnant belly.
The emperor misunderstood this action as resistance, and his eyes darkened:
"Are you reluctant to leave Zhuyuan, or are you reluctant to leave him?"
"Small-minded..."
Xuan Ling pinched the beauty's chin,
"I am just narrow-minded. Do you like the bamboo garden that looks just like the palace? You must have been very moved when you saw it, right?"
"Jealous husband!"
Before she finished speaking, a crisp laugh came from outside the door.
It was the voices of Jiang Jiang and Sheng Xitang, and they seemed to be talking about fishing.
The door was opened gently by a knock, and Xuan Ling and Sheng Xiyan both thought it was Jiang Jiang.
Just then, Qi Yan was standing behind the screen holding a memorial. Xuan Ling suddenly pulled the brocade quilt over and wrapped Sheng Xiyan.
The moonlight shines through the Xiangfei bamboo onto Qi Yan's green tights. The sword at his waist is the Mandarin Duck Sword bestowed by Emperor Xuan Ling.
"My dear, you have arrived just in time."
Xuan Ling's fingertips reached into the brocade quilt,
"General Dun has come to report on the disturbances at the northern border. I would like to hear your opinion."
Qi Yan stared at the winding crimson markings on the memorial. The red looked very much like the red curtains hanging beside the couch:
"I believe we should divide it into three groups..."
His voice was steady, but the corner of the quilt suddenly moved, revealing half of his snow-white ankle, with a string of sandalwood Buddhist beads wrapped around the ankle.
"Go on."
Xuan Ling suddenly increased the strength in his hands and heard the person in his arms groan with satisfaction.
"Feint attack in the middle, outflanking on the left and right wings..."
Qi Yan's throat tightened, and green smoke rose from the incense burner, condensing into mist in his eyes.
Sheng Xiyan was so aroused that she couldn't control herself. She bit Xuan Ling's finger fiercely and took advantage of the pain to sit up.
"Your Majesty, don't you want to hear about strategy?"
She was wrapped in a brocade quilt, her dark eyebrows twisted into two caterpillars, revealing a look of arrogance and anger.
"Why don't you let me, the military advisor, speak?"
"You? Tell me."
Xuan Ling raised his eyebrows, his eyes lingering on her collarbone.
"The Northern Frontier King's tent is located at..." She ran her fingertips across the sheepskin map, and was suddenly hugged from behind by the emperor.
Chenxiang mixed with passion swept over: "Go on."
Qi Yan watched the emperor's hand reach into the quilt and knelt on one knee: "I will go prepare dinner."
When he turned around, his sword hit the door frame, startling the birds sleeping under the eaves.
Xuan Ling lifted a corner of the brocade quilt, revealing a small head, with long hair flying up due to the friction.
The big hand gently smoothed the rough hair, and rubbed it lightly with the tip of the nose.
"Why, are you worried about your ex-husband again?"
Sheng Xiyan stretched out her small fist and hit the big head, glaring and said:
"In fact, the emperor is my ex-husband now!"
The calloused fingertips rubbed the icy skin and bones, soothing:
"Oh, are you still angry? But Yanyan, you are still very charming when you are angry. I am very pleased with you."
"Annoying, I knew you would reveal your true nature."
Xuan Ling teased her while asking, "What is my nature?"
Sheng Xiyan stretched out her snow-white arms from under the quilt and glanced at him sideways:
"Aren't you, Your Majesty, the master of the male and female evil spirits? Didn't you send them to monitor me?"
Xuan Ling kissed the tip of her nose,
"You heartless little thing! I was so mad at you that day, but the next day I was still worried about your safety, so I sent them to protect you. If they were just there to keep an eye on you, why didn't they report to me when you disguised yourself as a doctor and entered the palace?"
"That's because they were conquered by my charm."
He leaned closer to Xuebai, "I am also conquered by your charm, Yanyan, do you know how charming you are?"
"How charming is it?..."
"I tell you..."
“Oh, no…”
"Why?"
Sheng Xiyan bit the dragon's ear, causing the emperor to roar in pain.
During dinner, Sheng Xiyan kept looking at the emerald shrimp dumplings on the Eight Immortals table. Xuan Ling thought to herself that this must have been made specially for her by Qi Yan.
He picked up a piece and fed it to her mouth: "Qi Yan's cooking skills are better than the imperial chef's."
Sheng Xiyan ate with her mouth open and didn't say anything.
"Yanyan, why are you so silent? Did I get it right again? Are these shrimp dumplings something you used to eat together?"
