Chapter 13 Chapter 13 "Mind your own business."
They planned to have lunch in the hospital, and after grandma and Aunt Sun finished their physical examinations, they called Qiao Yu to go with them.
Although Jiang Mian also stood up, he did not follow.
Qiao Yu looked back at him, and he shrugged helplessly: "Grandma beat me."
I was hit with a cane when I went to Qiao Yu's house for the first time, and I was slapped twice in the hospital this morning.
Grandma was sitting in a wheelchair, hitting Jiang Mian's arm. It was no use even if Aunt Sun and Luo Hao tried to stop her.
The little old lady, who was usually very kind, treated Jiang Mian as if he were her enemy, which was somewhat ridiculous.
Jiang Mian didn't care about being beaten, but he was afraid that it would affect his grandmother's mood and cause her to overreact.
In order to let his grandma have a good lunch, he didn't dare to appear in her sight all afternoon.
After the meal was over and grandma was walking in front, Jiang Mian approached Qiao Yu like a thief and asked, "What did I do to offend you in the past that made grandma beat me like this?"
He said this with a smile, as if it was a joke, with a bit of self-deprecation in it.
But Qiao Yu paused slightly, and then was really amused by the joke.
Jiang Mian tilted his head to look at Qiao Yu and asked seriously, "Really?"
Qiao Yu suppressed his smile and looked straight ahead: "I don't know."
Luo Hao was originally going to see her off when leaving the hospital, but Qiao Yu unexpectedly saw Ji Zhongyuan at the door.
He didn't expect the other party to come over, and he didn't know how long the other party had been waiting. Subconsciously, he felt guilty and walked much faster. He trotted over and stopped in front of Ji Zhongyuan: "Brother Yuan."
Ji Zhongyuan said "hmm" softly and ignored Qiao Yu.
When grandma came over right after him, he put on a smiling face again, took her into the car and took her back home.
On the way, Qiao Yu sat in the passenger seat and said a few words, but Ji Zhongyuan either responded perfunctorily or ignored them.
Aunt Sun keenly sensed the problem between the two, and after arriving home, she took grandma away first.
"Did the examination go well?" Ji Zhongyuan lit a cigarette outside the car and finally "got to know" Qiao Yu again.
Qiao Yu hung his head and answered mechanically, "I have some glaucoma, high blood pressure, and my asthma got worse during the change of seasons."
"Have you prescribed the medicine?"
"It's open. I'm in the hospital. The doctor said I have to go once a week. The remaining part is in Aunt Sun's possession. She has been taking care of it."
Qiao Yu’s biggest expense in the past was going to the hospital to get medicine. His grandmother only had the minimum medical insurance, and most of the money he paid was in cash. In return, he got a bunch of incomprehensible medicines, which he then gave all to Aunt Sun.
Aunt Sun is very caring. She classifies the medicines in advance according to the doctor's instructions, and then watches my grandma take them every day.
I have been taking medicine all these years, but it hasn't been very effective. Maybe it has had a suppressive effect, but overall the situation is getting worse.
This made people feel hopeless, and Qiao Yu was afraid to go to the hospital for a while.
It's a place that hurts people and costs money. You will feel uncomfortable for a while if you go there.
But today was lucky, Jiang Mian was there, not only did he not have to pay a penny, he could even have a cup of coffee in the hospital.
It is comfortable, but I can't lift my head up.
"Do you really want to continue like this?" Ji Zhongyuan asked.
Qiao Yu lowered his eyes, avoiding the other party's questioning: "Ah? ... Yeah."
He hesitated, unwilling to say more or to think too much.
Ji Zhongyuan shut up as he wished, quietly finished a cigarette, and then said goodbye to Qiao Yu.
"Brother Yuan." Qiao Yu called him.
Ji Zhongyuan held the car door with one hand and turned to look at him.
Qiao Yu said: "Are you disappointed in me?"
After saying this, he still didn't dare to look up.
Qiao Yu stared at his toes, where there was a small shadow cast by the backlight, between him and Ji Zhongyuan. He couldn't get over it because of his own fault.
"What are you disappointed about?" Ji Zhongyuan turned around and faced Qiao Yu, "Do you think you are greedy for Jiang Mian's money?"
Qiao Yu twisted his fingers together and moved his lips, but couldn't say anything.
"Do you like her?" Ji Zhongyuan said again, "Qiao Yu, I know you better than you think."
After Ji Zhongyuan left, Qiao Yu stood there for a long time.
My mind was in a mess, and I was wondering what Ji Zhongyuan knew about me.
But I dare not think about it too much.
When I got home, grandma was already asleep.
Aunt Sun was eating the snacks she brought back from the hospital. When she saw Qiao Yu coming back, she waved for him to come over.
"This is delicious, have some."
Qiao Yu took the piece of cake and sat down next to Aunt Sun.
The pastry is soft, sweet and nutty, and the two flavors are mixed together without being greasy and quite delicious.
"Xiao Mian is really good. This child knows how to be grateful and is an honest person. Although he was a bad person in the past, it is not easy for a successful person like him to turn around and be kind to your grandma..."
Qiao Yu listened quietly to Aunt Sun praising Jiang Mian in various ways, and finally nodded: "Yeah."
"So," Aunt Sun patted Qiao Yu's arm, "Don't be angry with him."
Qiao Yu explained: "I didn't get angry with him."
So he shook his head: "You're still saying no? Even your grandma can see it."
As soon as grandma saw Jiang Mian this morning, she reached for her cane and wanted to beat him up. Luo Hao was so scared that he wanted to pounce on her and beg her to stop.
Aunt Sun was a little worried that Jiang Mian might have some emotions because of this, but he just kept smiling and begged grandma pitifully to show mercy.
"Your grandma treats you the best. If you get angry with Xiao Mian, she will get angry with Xiao Mian too."
Qiao Yu muttered to herself, how could she still be friendly to Jiang Mian?
Say hello with a smile when you meet each other every day? He couldn't laugh either.
“Knock knock—”
The knock on the door made both people in the room look up.
Qiao Yu stood up and opened the door, meeting Jiang Mian's eyes through the gauze.
He subconsciously raised the corners of his mouth, but soon dropped them again.
"What's the matter?"
Aunt Sun took a few steps forward and opened the outermost door: "It's Xiao Mian."
"Auntie," Jiang Mian walked in, carrying a bunch of supplements of different sizes, "I came to see grandma."
Qiao Yu turned his face away and walked out the door.
He stood in the corridor, basking in the midday sun.
Judging from the present Jiang Mian, he is indeed a good person. It’s not Aunt Sun’s fault that she doesn’t know about the past.
But Qiao Yu couldn't convince himself to greet Jiang Mian with a smile, even though he felt he should do so.
After all, he can't have both.
"Aren't you cold?" Jiang Mian walked up to him and asked.
Qiao Yu lowered his eyes: "Not bad."
Jiang Mian made small talk: "You are too thin, are you anemic?"
Qiao Yu turned his face to the other side: "No."
In fact, he is a little anemic and has hypoglycemia. He was malnourished in the womb and no matter how hard he tries, he can't get rid of it.
"No," Jiang Mian seemed to be thinking, "Why didn't you have a physical examination today?"
Qiao Yu ignored him and turned back to his room.
Jiang Mian is feeling a bit awkward in front of Qiao Yu right now. It's not good to ignore her, but if he pays too much attention to her, he doesn't really want to pay attention to her.
He felt that if he maintained this attitude for too long, Jiang Mian might lose interest. Although he didn't know how long the other party could hold out, it would be best if he didn't.
About twenty minutes later, grandma woke up.
Aunt Sun immediately interrupted her conversation with Jiang Mian and went to the bedroom to take care of grandma.
Jiang Mian also stood up, but did not follow him. He walked to Qiao Yu's side.
Qiao Yu had just finished grading a stack of papers and was compiling the scores into a table.
Jiang Mian picked up the test paper and reported a score.
Qiao Yu raised his eyelids to look at him, then lowered the wooden instrument again, tacitly agreeing to this behavior.
The rather strange relationship reveals a hint of abnormal calmness.
Unfortunately, before he could finish tidying up, grandma left the room.
When the other party saw Jiang Mian, he was stunned for two seconds, muttered "Xiao Mian Xiao Mian" a few times, and turned around to look for his crutches.
Aunt Sun laughed and said "Ouch!" and stopped grandma: "Why are you hitting people again!"
Seeing that a riot was about to break out, Qiao Yu put down his pen and stood up and went over: "Grandma."
There was a chaos, just like when grandma first met Jiang Mian a few days ago.
The old man's time was randomly set at a certain day in the past, with the same events repeating over and over again.
Jiang Mian was pushed out of the room by Qiao Yu.
"Don't come next time." Qiao Yu closed the door.
Jiang Mian is already in his twenties after all, and no one wants to endure this humiliation all the time.
Besides, grandma can’t be angry all day long.
It would be bad for either of them if these two met.
But Jiang Mian didn't mind: "Grandma is mad at me, so I have to come and apologize."
Qiao Yu frowned: "She doesn't understand your apology."
Jiang Mian looked at Qiao Yu: "Talk to her."
Qiao Yu felt puzzled: "What should I say?"
He raised his eyes slightly and met Jiang Mian's gaze.
Those were a pair of smiling eyes, with a calm and gentle look.
Qiao Yu withdrew his gaze.
"You have a scar here," Jiang Mian raised his hand and tapped the corner of Qiao Yu's eye from a distance, "It's very dangerous."
Qiao Yu's eyelashes trembled slightly, and her eyes fell on Jiang Mian's fingertips.
She pursed her lips, but simply tilted her head to push his hand away.
"Mind your own business."
