Chapter 208 Not an ordinary facial paralysis
Fang Jun's brows knitted into a knot, and his fingers unconsciously tightened around the intercom: "Tell me clearly, what's going on?"
The firefighter on the other end of the intercom said hurriedly: "Team Leader, there's something wrong with these supports! The bolts buried in the rubble are all loose—"
Accompanied by the crisp sound of metal collision, "The nut is not tightened at all, it can be turned by hand! And..."
The harsh sound of steel frames being moved echoed in the background. "Some of the welds have neat cut marks. The cuts are so smooth, as if they were specially polished with an angle grinder. There's no way they were caused by an excavator collision!"
Fang Jun's breathing suddenly became heavy, his knuckles turning white from the exertion. "You mean... this wasn't an accident?"
Upon hearing this, Du Weifeng staggered back two steps, and his safety helmet fell to the ground with a bang.
His face was as pale as paper, and broken words squeezed out from his trembling lips: "No wonder... I said... Even if a novice made an error in operation, it shouldn't have collapsed so completely..."
Xia Lili and Li Qihan exchanged serious glances.
Those predicted explosions were likely far more than accidents. The cold light of the surveillance screen reflected on the four people's faces, illuminating their shock and horror.
Fang Jun looked at Li Qihan with a complicated expression, a wry smile forming on his lips: "Captain Li, in this situation... what should we do?"
He shook his head. "I didn't expect that a construction site accident would become your criminal police's home turf."
Li Qihan's eyes were deep, and his voice was steady and powerful: "Let the firefighters take photos to secure the evidence first, and be careful not to destroy any traces at the scene."
He paused briefly and said, "The rescue work continues, but we must be extra careful."
"Understood." Fang Jun immediately picked up the intercom to convey the instructions, and his voice returned to professional calmness.
Xia Lili tapped the table thoughtfully: "This carefully planned collapse..."
She looked up at Li Qihan and asked, "If an underground explosion really happens, who will benefit in the end?"
Li Qihan turned to Du Weifeng, his sharp eyes piercing through him like a knife: "Mr. Du, have you had any grudges with anyone recently?"
Du Weifeng waved his hands in panic: "No! I've always been kind to others, and we all get along like family on the construction site."
"Get the files of the six trapped people." Li Qihan's tone became a little more serious.
"Okay, right away!"
Du Weifeng frantically operated the computer and called up the employee file system.
Li Qihan leaned over and grabbed the mouse, his slender fingers sliding the scroll wheel quickly.
The blue light from the screen reflected on his chiseled profile, making his sharp eyes look even deeper.
Xia Lili rubbed her temples and walked towards the rest area in the corner of the control room.
The seven children immediately gathered around her like little birds, looking at her with sparkling eyes.
"Sister, you are so awesome!" The little girl with pigtails tugged at her clothes in admiration.
"That handsome policeman is so awesome!" another little boy gestured excitedly. Although they didn't quite understand what happened exactly, they vaguely understood from the adults' nervous expressions that Xia Lili and Li Qiuhan had prevented a terrible disaster.
Li Qihan, who was standing aside, raised his eyebrows when he heard the children's calls, and the corners of his mouth twitched slightly.
Xia Lili squatted down and looked at the children level: "The construction site is a bit dangerous right now. Can we come back another day to finish the graffiti?"
"Everyone has been so good this morning. Let Auntie Lin take you to McDonald's. It's my treat."
"Yeah! McDonald's!" the children cheered, chattering about which set meal they wanted. As Aunt Lin and her husband led them away with a smile, the youngest, Doudou, turned back and shouted, "Sister, remember to come and watch us paint!"
After a while, Xia Lili's phone vibrated.
In the video sent by my aunt, the children were happily eating hamburgers, their little faces covered with ketchup grinning at the camera.
Looking at the carefree smiling face on the screen, Xia Lili finally breathed a sigh of relief, and her tense shoulders relaxed a little.
Xia Lili quickly took out her cell phone and dialed the private number of Tang Mingqian, president of Shengtang Group.
After the call was connected, she briefly explained the current situation at the construction site: "Mr. Tang, six workers are currently trapped underground, and one has suffered severe blood loss. Due to the risk of methane leaks, the rescue team can only dig manually, and it will take at least two hours to open a passage."
Her fingertips tapped unconsciously on the table. "I remember the 'Emergency Hummingbird' robotic system at Joaquin Hospital. It can provide initial treatment in confined spaces like this?"
On the other end of the phone, Tang Mingqian's voice was steady and powerful: "You are talking about our third-generation medical robot, which can indeed complete drug delivery and remote diagnosis."
The sound of him rapidly tapping on the keyboard could be heard in the background. "I'll arrange for a special car to take it there. It should be there in 20 minutes."
After hanging up the phone, Xia Lili noticed Fang Jun looking at her in disbelief. The fire chief opened his mouth, but could only manage one sentence: "Officer Xia, you..."
The surprise in his eyes... Who on earth was this young girl, that she could get the owner of a top private hospital to personally dispatch the latest medical equipment with just one phone call?
Xia Lili simply smiled faintly and put the phone back into her pocket: "When the robot arrives, we can have it stop the bleeding and scan the wound."
Fang Jun nodded thoughtfully, his eyes moving back and forth between her and Li Qihan who was checking the surveillance footage - this pair seemed to be much more complicated than he had imagined.
After Xia Lili hung up the phone, she quickly walked towards Li Qihan: "Captain Li, did you find anything?"
Li Qihan's slender fingers tapped on the keyboard, and the screen displayed the files of the trapped workers. "Which worker is the one you're looking at?" he said in a low voice.
Xia Lili leaned over and pointed at the screen: "This, Lao Zhou."
Her fingertips gently touched the scarred face in the photo. Information showed: Zhou Yingxing, 36 years old, with 17 years of construction experience.
"Is there anything unusual?" Li Qihan scanned the information with sharp eyes.
"His facial muscles..." Xia Lili recalled, "hardly moved when he spoke, as if he was wearing a mask."
Li Qihan immediately turned to Du Weifeng and asked, "Is there any archived version of the video call just now?"
"Yes! They are all saved automatically!" Du Weifeng quickly called up the video.
In the picture, Lao Zhou's stiff face looks particularly weird in the dim light.
Li Qihan played the clip of his speech over and over again, then suddenly paused it. "This isn't just ordinary facial paralysis." He pulled out his phone and dialed a number: "Help me check Zhou Yingxing's medical records, ID number 5..."
During the five minutes of waiting, the monitoring room was so quiet that you could hear the hum of the computer fan.
Xia Lili bit her lower lip unconsciously until Li Qihan's phone lit up again.
"How is it?" she asked impatiently.
