Chapter 30: Cult Couples Are Even More Engaging

Chapter 30: Cult Couples Are Even More Engaging

"Nan Jiao, look who this is! It's the Marshal!"

Sang Lin shouted excitedly, but her eyes flashed with ill intent.

Sang Lin had a loud voice, and Nan Jiao immediately became the center of attention.

A murmur of teasing and jeering rose from the surrounding crowd, who tacitly accepted the "relationship described in the report" and urged Nan Jiao to go over.

Nan Jiao clutched her bag. She noticed Lu Xiao and Feng Ran. The past was impossible; she didn't want to be dragged into the drama again.

To her surprise, the long-dormant comments suddenly became active again:

It's been a long time since we've seen a female supporting character and the male lead have any scenes together; to be honest, I kind of miss it.

The female supporting character is actually quite strong; she's managed to face everything positively. Thinking about her future fate makes me feel a little sorry for her; she didn't really do anything wrong.

[What should I do? Why do I find the cult-like couple more appealing? Author, are you really not considering changing the pairing? The male lead seems more vibrant when he's with the female supporting character; he even acts cute and affectionate. With the female lead, it feels like their relationship was forced by the plot, and if their feelings for each other only developed because of Yan Yan, then the ex-wife's side is much more engaging.]

[How much sympathy do people have for the villainous female supporting character? What's with those who still ship her to some cult even though she has a main love interest?]

[Seriously, officer? Even browsing the internet gets you a police officer?]

...

Lu Xiao subconsciously looked in Nan Jiao's direction.

Everyone was looking her over, except for her.

She never spared a glance for herself.

Letting out a deep breath, Lu Xiao went upstairs before Feng Ran could.

He didn't want to see her cold and disgusted expression at all; it felt like someone had stabbed him in the heart.

Seeing Lu Xiao hurriedly go upstairs, Sang Lin finally felt a huge weight lifted from her heart. A wide smile spread across her face as she walked proudly into the crowd, looking at the puzzled onlookers.

"Nan Jiao, don't you have anything to explain?"

Nan Jiao's eyes droop slightly at the corners, and her dark pupils have a naturally moist look, which makes her seem harmless. However, when she is angry, her gaze is always sharp, like a burning flame.

What do I need to explain?

"Explain what?" Sang Lin laughed, pointing at the surrounding crowd. "Aren't you going to give everyone an explanation? You claim to have a close relationship with the Marshal, but in reality, he doesn't even give you a second glance. You're nothing but a clown!"

There were faint voices echoing the sentiment from the surroundings.

Nan Jiao laughed angrily: "When did I say that my relationship with him was unusual? Think back to yourselves, didn't I explain from the beginning that I had no relationship with him?"

A moment of silence fell over the people around them. Yes, Nan Jiao had indeed stated from the beginning that she didn't want to have anything to do with that person at all.

Sang Lin paused, then said, "Who knows if this is some kind of conspiracy you orchestrated on your own? To me, you paid the paparazzi to put that news report on you! What kind of nonsense is this?"

She grinned, crossing her arms. "Ha, this is a divorced woman trying to glorify herself! After that news broke, everyone rushed to curry favor with you. You must be so smug. Everyone knows whoever profits the most is the one who did it!"

The murmurs began again.

Nan Jiao pointed to her head and raised an eyebrow slightly: "Are you out of your mind? If I wanted to market myself, why did I take down the news?"

"Is there even a question? The one who withdrew was definitely the marshal; he didn't want to be associated with you and damage his reputation!"

"If that's the case, then why am I still standing here perfectly fine?"

Sang Lin moved her lips, but couldn't say anything.

Yes, given Marshal Lu's temperament and personality, if he had the report taken down because he was worried that his cousin would overthink things, then there's no reason why Nan Jiao would still be standing here, jumping around like this.

Sang Lin had long heard that the top students of the First Star were infatuated with her cousin to the point of madness, wishing they could give her their hearts, and they would not be merciful to anyone who dared to ruin their relationship.

That doesn't make much sense.

What Sang Lin could think of, others naturally thought of as well. Karl stepped forward and said, "Everyone, stop arguing. Since we are in the same chamber of commerce, we should complement and help each other and contribute to our hometown, Lant City, as soon as possible!"

When the chairman spoke, the others nodded in agreement and flattered him.

Sang Lin clenched her hands, but ultimately did not continue her outburst.

The misunderstanding was over, but everyone's attitude towards Nan Jiao was no longer as attentive as before, and there was a hint of complaint in their words, probably because they had wasted so much time and effort.

Nan Jiao followed the group to the pre-booked private room, completely unconcerned about the changes in the attitudes of those around her.

Nan Jiao sat in the back row as usual.

The seating arrangement is also carefully considered. The front row is reserved for the very wealthy, while newcomers like Nan Jiao, who are just starting out, can only sit in the back. Sang Lin, on the other hand, sits in the second row.

The surrounding tobacco smell was rather strong, not exactly unpleasant but making it a little hard to breathe, and it especially reminded her of someone.

Nan Jiao left the private room for some fresh air when she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.

Nan Jiao turned around and saw a short, stout male following behind her. He raised his wine glass and narrowed his eyes into slits.

Nan Jiao had some impression of this Tang De. His family had some assets, but he was dissolute and unreliable. In addition, he was overweight and unattractive, so no female of his class was willing to accept him, even though Tang De's mother claimed that she would give hundreds of millions of star coins to anyone who would take in her son.

Tang De stared at her greedily: "There's a rumor that you were abandoned by your beastly husband. That can't be right, you're so beautiful." He rubbed his hands together excitedly: "Is there some hidden illness? No wonder no one wants you..."

Nan Jiao gripped her wine glass tightly: "Is there something you need?"

"Don't misunderstand." He tried to be a gentleman and straightened his tie, but that only made him look more sleazy.

“I think…we’re quite a good match, aren’t we? You see, you were abandoned by your beast mate, and I happen to be unpopular with the females as well. I don’t mind that.”

"You have such a big face." Nan Jiao poured wine on his face: "Take a good look at your pig face. I wouldn't even take you for free if you looked like that."

"Pigs" and "hyenas" are both considered very low-level orcs in interstellar space. Tang De's face flushed red instantly, and he wiped his face.

"Don't be so stubborn. Ha, you're even making up stories about yourself and the Marshal. Did he even acknowledge you? I know, you just want star coins, right? How about it? If you're with me, I'll give you a lot of star coins. Come on, let me give you a kiss first, my darling..."
